Somewhere, a group is preparing an attack on Bitcoin. It will come around the next big pump. The attackers will have an exponentially large advantage of computing power. If the network isn't compromised, it will be severely damaged.

If 10% of facebook users use their coins it would be relatively big. People already use venmo and zelle. It doesn't have to be a good cryptocurrency; it just has to be easy to use.

If ETH is now dying then all crypto is now dying. Crypto is not dying. Here's why: just like any other asset that is traded, it is prone to market forces. Look back to 2013 when BTC spiked, how long did it recede for? You think 3 months is a long time to drop for? Be thankful that futures markets stayed the bull rush before BTC hit 20-30k. We might be looking at 3k BTC now had that happened. The market will stabilize itself.

Eth, apart from some supply/PoW vs PoS concerns, is one of the strongest coins out there. It is supported by thousands of tokens, no matter how ridiculous their contracts are. And it has a plan to make transactions scalable and efficient, instead of just having a flat transaction fee of $20-40 no matter how small the transaction.

Most of all Eth has a leader who has a voice and a vision. You can't put a price on that.

Gold will only be supplanted by Bitcoin once the gold on asteroids can be harnessed. Since it is not feasible to deploy mining equipment to an asteroid, we will have to redirect a smaller passing asteroid to impact Earth just offshore where it can be retrieved economically. This can be accomplished by detonating explosives near the asteroid as it approaches Earth. It will require sophisticated rocketry with precise sensor capabilities in order to safely direct the asteroid's path.

Therefore, the entity that controls the world's most advanced rockets in the coming decades can exponentially increase Bitcoin's value by devaluing gold via flooding the supply of it.

Honestly at this point 25-30k wouldn't be anything out of the ordinary (looking at the last year).

How are people predicting global demand for Bitcoin (in all countries, not just their native one) if this is something which we have never seen the likes of before? How can you predict the demand for a light bulb when it has just been invented and barely adopted? It's like we're at the point where we know the light bulb is a good thing for inside houses, but we're just realizing we can also use it to light our streets...

It was a well timed thing to be sure, but really isn't sustainable at all. BTC will simply correct a few weeks/months later and things will be on their normal path again.

Pretty sure someone was using my gaming GPU to mine coins (without my knowledge) through 2011-2012... So technically someone robbed me of millions. I'm not really mad, just impressed.

There are a few things that point to mining becoming more profitable in the near future, but there is also the impending bubble burst as well so... still a risky choice as it ever was. Easy to get burned by hardware vendors.

Buying, while not nearly as "cool", is much simpler and requires less additional time investment. Do some research, make some buys, check back in a few months and you're good. If you start mining, you'll constantly be obsessed with hashrate, payouts, and efficiency. That's a higher cost.

Over a long enough timeline, BTC will be replaced, or at the very least, dissolve into many different blockchains indistinguishable from the original core.

This is just a temporary scare to set the stage for the last big bitcoin sale for the next few years. Sure, it might fall to 2/3 or even 1/2 - that has happened many times throughout a coin's history. But in the end the result is nearly always the same: inevitable recovery and rise to new highs.

How can I update ccminer to add the skunk algo? I don't want to compile from source again. Also, i have cuda 8.0, but it looks like there is only a skunk release for cuda 9.0. is that going to be an issue? I really don't want to change anything.

Have there been any attempts at soft-masternodes? Something that would hard code in a limit as to how much power a masternode can have in the network.

Maybe you mean that with Bitcoin's global network, anyone in the world can receive payments from people in other areas of the world, and because of that outsourcing work becomes easier? That is true, cryptocurrencies sidestep the need for a broker or multiple middlemen in some cases.
