I downloaded the alpha. What is a good opensource utility (Windows8) that can read file checksums?

Since I trust tools from sysinternals suite, I'd recommend
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb897441.aspx

(but it's commandline only)

Code:
sigcheck -h nis-ncc-0.0.55.zip

I ran Sigcheck v2.1, everything matched. Thanks

I read this about another coin. "The transactions in a block are hashed in a Merkle root tree unlike Nxt which just hashed the concatenation.  The Merkle root is resistive to quantum cryptography attacks and allows for SPV based clients to be implemented."

In the future if a quantum computer is possible, will NEM have any resistance to a quantum cryptography attack?

NEM Marketing Proposal

...

3. Create a concentrated, sustained and targeted marketing campaign to share our message in the most effective manner:

Action:
...

- Create one or more smart and appealing NEM videos. We can definitely start with something like this in mind http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Um63OQz3bjo but why not try to make it more like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u5X5cV-4LRo.

CoinDesk recently ran a couple articles on good videos.
http://www.coindesk.com/battle-explainer-videos-tells-bitcoins-story-best/
http://www.coindesk.com/best-bitcoin-videos-infographics-podcasts/

They list several good examples. We can gain some inspiration for NEM's video.

Their list:

Is there any information about how did the closed alpha go on weekend? If I remember correctly, if it went well, there would be an ETA for the open Alpha. Sorry if I remember wrong or have missed the information in the last few posts.

I'd say it went pretty well. It was a lot of fun to pump out the first NEM blocks allthough there were some issues discovered that are being worked on right now or are already fixed.
It was also only a test for NIS (being the server part of NEM) since NCC is not finished yet.

I will not spill any guesstimates anymore since it only feeds the trolls if they are not met.

It's ALIVE!

Satoshi Nakamoto.

The man himself. Makes sense to me.

Satoshi disappears and BCNext appears.
BCNext disappears and UtopianFuture appears.

Right?

 Shocked

50% say Yes!

Could someone point to the right discussion thread for NEM (be it on bitcointalk or elsewhere)? I am lost with so many threads.
Plus, where could I have the current status and roadmap for NEM? Thank you.

You are in the right thread.
I can't give you dates because there are no ETAs but this is what's coming in the very near future (in no special order):
  • stake auctions
  • release of final stakeholder list
  • refunds
  • alpha
  • other stuff that comes up Smiley

I can't give you dates because there are no ETAs but this is what's coming in the very not so near future (but also not very distant) (in no special order):
  • logo
  • branding
  • open beta
  • whitepaper release
  • stake distribution
  • official launch
  • exchanges
  • stake distribution
  • UP reveals that he's really satoshi
  • Jaguar reveals that he's really BCNext
Woo, we have BCNEXT and satoshi in the core team

haha imagine what that would do for nem if it was actually verified lol it would be on news channels everywhere that satoshi is building a new coin with the creator of the first 2.0 coin. now that would be a headline! :L

UP = Satoshi?

Inquiring minds want to know.
Find out now. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=583503

Their is an article on CoinDesk right now about the carbon footprint of bitcoin. Some of you guys and gals can post additional comments in the discussion about the benefits of NEM.

Newcoin for all bitcointalk account holders built on NEM

Guys I just found out bitcointalk has almost 300000 accounts, thats almost the size of iceland  Shocked, its insane. Is it not possible to make a coin on top of the NEM platform and give it for free to all bitcoin account holders from a certain date. It will give NEM huge publicity and instantly capture the imagination of the crypto world.

Man I really wish I was a programmer, I feel so frustrated, all these ideas without the skill to implement it.
The only way for NEM to gain Value is to first give value  Smiley

This is an interesting idea. NEM developers, is this even possible?

to be honest, I am a bit surprised more stakeholders are not excited as I am and choose to remain silent Huh.  With 3000 members I thought this place with be buzzing. UPs idea of selecting only active contributors for the next round is really important.  We need some new blood Embarrassed .

I was thinking the same, this place should be flooded with more people.

But on the bright side it is more active than most new coins, and I imagine there will be a huge up increase when Nem is nearing completion.

if we use the number of post of each id in this thread to compute the GINI coeffiecient, the current GINI coefficient is 0.677, while the dogecoin thread is 0.74, the nxt thread is 0.85.
the less the coeffiecient, the more activated of each id.

I think a lot of people will activate here when we get the coin is launched Cheesy!

absolutely correct!  Grin

Yes. Waiting patiently while NEM starts to coalesce.
