Didn't know about Google trivia, looks cool  Smiley

I thought about the problem of people looking up the answers in Google. I was going to prevent this by allowing only 10-15 seconds to answer the question. Then again my database contains hard questions too. Some of which I don't think the average user will know the answer. I might make the allowed time per question dependant on the question. Allowing more time for harder questions. Not sure about this.

It's cool to see people sign up, do continue  Wink

Some features i plan for the future:

- Monthly rankings for most quizzes played with a price
- Monthly rankings for most correct answers with a price
- Monthly rankings for most quizzes won
- Badges & reputation
- Special themed quizzes (spanning multiple days)

Thank you for the replies Smiley

The design will probably be improved upon once we go public or after a month or two. Our focus now is on getting the functionality done. Then testing. And if the site is popular enough, I'll let a professional designer do his work.  Smiley

Some technical details for whose interested. The site template is based on twitter bootstrap which provides a very good and clean start. The backend code uses the php laravel framework for most of the pages. The quiz game itself however works with node.js and sockets.io because it's very fast and fancy. Data for active quizzes is stored in Redis.

[ANNOUNCE] Bitcoin Quiz Master, trivia quizzes for bitcoin

Hello,

I would like to present my project I've been working on over the past few months.
It's a site where you will be able to play trivia quiz games for bitcoin.
The idea is quite simple. The site will feature multiple daily quizzes. Small, medium and big quizzes. Each with their own duration and question amount.
Every user that wants to participate has to pay the quiz participation price (about 0.1 btc).
90% of the participation price goes to the quiz pot and the pot is divided amongst those with the highest score for that quiz.
I'm also thinking of adding a ranking feature to the first release.

The project isn't finished yet but at least 70% of the work is done.
The prelaunch page is up where people can add themselves to the waiting list and reserve their username in the process.
I plan on launching in march.

So what do you think about this site?
If you got any questions, I'm happy to answer them.
I would like to know what the bitcoin community thinks about my little project  Smiley

Will there be such a thing as new ASIC miners?  Will people who have never mined before want to invest money in ASIC?  When GPU mining was profitable, anyone could do it, people got interested and upgraded.  I think the advent of ASIC makes it a niche sport now.

Why??

Its gonne be even easier dude!!!!!!!!!!!!! No high end PC or vid cards to buy & maintain. No issues with vid drivers,OC'in,drawing too much current from your PSU OR your outlet.

ANYONE can buy one & hook up a USB cable,DL the miner software, join a pool & boom your mining on an old P.O.S. PC..............

Hell,my mom is 72 years old & she could do it  Cool

Well, being late to the scene, I'm considering buying a little sc unit from butterfly labs but I have my concerns about profitability (in part because no deliveries have been made yet and no effect can be seen yet).
However if it is still profiltable after a few months I would buy an asic unit and start mining as a first time miner.

(I have a laptop with internal video card for the moment, i even tried cpu mining a few months ago hehe..)

If I can make back my money in 6 months (hopefully less) I'll be quite happy.I'm in this for the long term  Wink

this guy, too Smiley  I hope to pass the chore of monitoring bitcoin mining rigs on to my kids... Cheesy

lol, don't have any kids yet or rigs for that matter Wink

I really believe in bitcoins from a philosophical standpoint but reality is, i'm mostly looking for (development) projects which would earn me money (in the long term). The reason I believe most in bitcoin is because from a technological point of view it's imho the most correct solution. I have nothing against PayPal for example but reading how they act and freeze accounts. That's simple something that's not possible with bitcoins.. (as far as i known..)

As far as investing in hardware, I'm willing to do that as long as the ROI is quick. I don't have enough money to invest in something that only makes a profit in a year. (I know that from an investment point of view a year is nothing but not for me it is right now)

I hoped that with ASIC being the cool new thing, it would take a while before everybody would adopt but reading the forums more and more I have some doubts. Everybody with some investment in the bitcoin scene is following this and this won't be the easy money I had secretly hoped for. But that's ok, I'll find myself the right project someday..

I'm a good developer and a have a nice bitcoin related project that is halfway hehe Wink Hope to release it soon.

thanks all you guys for your replies..

I think I'm gonna wait it out a bit..
I'm going to check some time after deliveries started if one little single from butterfly labs can still produce enough btc to recoup the investment in max 2 months.
I want at the very least 1 btc a day.

Once deliveries start, maybe somebody will be able to post what he is earning with his little single at that time.
This would give me a real valuable indication whether or not to buy.

I also think that once deliveries have started, butterfly labs will be more able to provide a correct delivery date.
I'm not that afraid that the equipment will become unsellable (unless bitcoin dies of course)
But it would be rather stupid of me to buy something and almost immediately sell it with a loss (given that I can estimate my profits)

If the current exchange rate holds anything above 2btc (preferably 5) a day would be acceptable.

with 40 x current difficulty you would need to invest at least 10 000 USD to mining hardware (based on current ASIC hardware pricing and current exchange rate) to mine 2 BTC/per day Smiley

Damn, that makes it a bit out of my reach. The highest investment I was considering was a little single. That would be about $700 with shipping. Considering what I would earn at current difficulty (13btc) that would make daily earnings about 0.325btc(@ 40x difficulty). That about 4$/day so it would take 175 days to recoup the investment. This isn't going to make me rich  Roll Eyes

I'm planning a btc project too so I'll keep to that for now. Don't think i'm going to invest in mining. I'll check up on the matter, still interested but think I missed the mining boat..

Thanks for the replies.

There are plenty of speculation threads about difficulty. Some say 10x, some say 50x. I am thinking somewhere around 40x to start with, and keep increasing as the months go on. As for  shipping, no one has received one yet as they are scheduled to be shipped early November. Josh state a while ago that they want to have all pre-orders out by December (not sure if this is still true since they have more pre-orders) and eventually want customers to be able to order and the items be shipped out within the next day. I would guess if you pre-ordered now you would receive it sometime around January. Just a guess though.

Good to know nobody has received one yet, so there is no effect yet on the difficulty.
I will keep a spreadsheet of the difficulty every day. Once the products are being delivered i can see the effect.
It's not that long anymore until first shipments are sent out.
Hopefully I will be able to estimate the difficulty (and my potential profit) then when product would arrive.
I guess deliveries will be more consistent then too.

You need to look around the forum more.  There's a hundred threads on BFL that answer a lot of your question.  First off, the SC is up to 60 GH now, and if you put an order in today you'll likely not get it till early next year.  I believe they're up around 10,000+ pre-orders.

As for BTC profit.  Things are going to get messy once all this hits.  Noone knows for sure, but we definitely know that the reward for blocks is going to get cut in half in the next few months, and that would knock your 13 BTC down to 6.5 BTC right away.  Then once difficulty ramps up, it'll just get worse from there.

I'm not saying it might not still be feasible to do it, but spend some time, do some research and make an informed decision.

I'm trying to read up on the forum a lot..
If the current exchange rate holds anything above 2btc (preferably 5) a day would be acceptable. Do you think that will hold long?

Hello,

I'm very interested in buying a new bitforce single sc from butterfly labs but still have some questions.
Has anybody already received it or is everybody still waiting?
And how long would I have to wait if I order now? (I live in Europe)

I'm also a bit concerned about the effects on the difficulty..
If I enter the 40 Ghash on a profiit calculator i would generate now about 13btc a day.
If a lot of people start using these new products, the difficulty will rise and the return will fall steeply, right?
Can anybody make an estimate or any advice/opinions..

I want to make sure I have a much information as possible.

Thanks for the advice.
Satoshi roulette is cool. I considered this too but don't have the coin needed to payout when someone wins.
To start I would limit the wheel to one btc bets.

I was planning on running my own bitcoind service on a server.
The reason why I want to return the money after some time (and limit the deposit amount) is to avoid getting hacked. In the case I would get hacked the amount stolen would be far less I think. However the suggestion of providing an alternative withdraw address is something I would add to the app.

But I'm not sure a bitcoin wheel of fortune will be a great success. It isn't the most exciting game but does provide a quick gamble  Tongue
I would prefer to develop something a bit more exciting but something like a full-on poker game would be a bit too time consuming for a side project.
If I can't produce a better idea by the end of the month, I'll probably start this.
I'm eager to do something bitcoin  Grin

Dev question about accepting/sending payments for game
by
toonevdb
on 14/08/2012, 12:24:06 UTC
Hello,

I'm planning on developing a small gambling game for bitcoin. I'm thinking of a wheel of fortune kinda game where the user has to select a multiplier and if the wheel stops at that multiplier the user has won his original bet times the multiplier.

Now I want to make the app as secure and easy to use as possible and would like to hear some advice if possible. I have 2 possible implementations in mind:

1. User provides his payout bitcoin address. Then gets a newly created address assigned and can deposit to that address. When deposit is confirmed, user can then bet multiple times until the deposited amount is spend. Each winning bet produces a payout to his bitcoin address. If the deposited amount isn't spend in 4 hours, the rest gets sent to the payout address.

2. User provides his bitcoin address and chosen bet amount. He then sends the amount from that address to app's bitcoin address. When the transaction has one confirmation, the browser updates the page and allows user to turn the wheel. (probably to slow and inconvenient because of wait, not sure..)

Any advice or opinions would be appreciated
Also do you think people would play the game?

Hello Toonevdb,

Did it worked out whit the voucher and did you find address where you can check the value of it?

Maybe you can take a look at Ukash.com and try to Split and combine the voucher.

Cheers

Yes, the voucher was still valid. I was able to split it

Want to exchange a 7€ Ukash voucher

Hello,

I have a Ukash voucher of €7.10 but i'm not sure if it's still working.
I would like to exchange it for half a coin or something.

I do not know of a way to check if the voucher still works..
Don't know how to cash it in either.

Would be cool if somebody that can use Ukash could check if it works and if so give 0.5 btc Smiley
Preferably somebody with some reputation on this forum
If it doesn't work, well then I know the voucher is bad

Hello,

@gensen Thanks for the reply. I did not know about the minimum order value..
Also it's been 3 days and with the rather negative comments in this thread, i was almost sure my money was gone.

I'll try to exchange the voucher with someone to check if it's still working.
I can't check it any other way..

Hello,

I've probably been stupid..
I ordered an exchange of €7 Ukash to Bitcoin on the realgg.nl website.
After completing the order, I immediately received a email confirming the order.
However after 3 days, I haven't received any bitcoin.

I contacted the owner both through this site by PM and at info@realgg.nl.
I hope to receive a reply and my bitcoins..

If I do not, I will file a police complaint as this is theft.

Meh..

Re: Bitcoin Businesses and Developers, Let's Get Started!

Hello,

I'm very interested in bitcoins. It seems the perfect alternative to fiat currency in my opinion.
I'm a webdeveloper (backend + frontend) with 6+ years experience looking to offer my services.

For me using bitcoins would be perfect as I don't want to start a company just yet.
And most wouldbe employers (in Belgium) require freelancers to have a vat number for taxes.
This would require me to find a accountant and don't want all that administration just yet.

Im 26, live in Belgium and I'm quite skilled at my job.
Since I cannot present a portfolio of my work, I would be very reasonable in regard to pricing.
However I will not work for India/China prices Wink

I'm also interested in working together on some bitcoin related project..

Looking forward to serious replies
