Re: [GLBSE] PureMining: Infinite-term, deterministic mining bond

I've been 'receiving' a dividend from puremining about once a week lately that never confirms. Any info available on this?

See for example, https://blockchain.info/tx/3da8b1ab5f02159b62db4048de2e0ba4e4636cb2ae17540b176bd17a06556db0 from 11/24 and unconfirmed

Re: Breaking news: Baidu (NASDAQ:BIDU) accepts BITCOIN!
by

Why would a business with most of its income in the form of BTC rather than $, elect to exchange that BTC to $ to pay rather than just paying with BTC directly?

The dollar price is fixed when services are rendered, and due 30 days later.
The vendor charges more in bitcoins to cover their costs in converting them to fiat
Taxes
The dollar cost is the same month to month, while the BTC cost fluctuates with the exchange rate

Total bullshit.

Their address: 1NtbQKVFxAPc8mmBoWwRzhg7o3EMCBsxNg

Why not send money to it for no reason - just guess a random amount to send in return for something unclear and unpriced.

OOooh, Can I try that

If you send money to 17RbEbXTtijSdVssMSJeHiLKe2KxE4LYQ3 I'll do some unspecified thing at some unspecified time in the future.

And please, what on earth is "Baidu Jashule" Is this a google-translate job?

Baidu is the Chinese equivalent to Google
Jashule is one of the branded services they offer.

Oh wow, thank's genius  Roll Eyes

I see you don't understand the standard translation protocol of transliterating proper nouns, rather then translating them. I'm sure the term means something in Chinese, but the correct usage in this case is to transliterate it. It's why bitcoin was created by Satoshi Nakamoto, rather than "Satoshi during this" which is what I get when I run the name through Google Translate.

And this 525cd5aabf9efd699f800e7e is very strange too.

Doesn't seems legit.

525cd5aabf9efd699f800e7e is perfectly legit. Chinese characters don't do well in URL's, since not everybody can type or read them, so they use a different system for international compatibility, rather than article title.

Anyone can get articles posted to Google News via Press Releases, but does that mean Google published that article?

It is a press release from baidu, posted on baidu's website. What more evidence do you want?

Probably a poor translation of a Chinese expression that say that they enabled Bitcoin payment.

Google translate is pretty much always a poor translation.

The news is 5 hours old (check the comments) and there is still no significant movement at Bitstamp, Mtgox or BTCChina. =/

How long does it take you to get cash to the exchanges? Who's left holding dollars after yesterdays run up?

Re: How to earn BTC
by

Except for mining (which is getting more and more specialized and risky) and investing on GLBSE are there other ways of earning btc? And I'm not talking about trading on silk road, only online stuff Smiley

The same way you earn USD. Take something you have, or a service you can offer, and sell it for BTC.

Don't Panic!

He can keep up the 0.001 div per day for at least a year.
Hmm... who else kept paying for a year and the run like a slimy thieve. Oh, scammer Trendon Shavers from Texas. That's the one!
 LOL

Awesome, 1 year from now, I'll sell. In the mean time, profits for me. (No, I'm not banking 100% on this)

The secret is to diversify. Don't put all your eggs in one basket, even if the basket pays great rates.

The other secret is not to invest what you can't afford to lose. Less than 10% of my portfolio is in OBSI.HRPT.

Hell, it says HIGH RISK right there in the name. As in, you might just lose everything you put into it. So be careful.

I bought a 100 of double edge blades for $7.... It lasts for me more than year.

Most of my cost is shave soap. Gotta get that about twice a year. Blades last just about forever.

I use aftershave. The brand is Clubman, and it's like $5 (US) for a bottle. I'm about 6 months into one and haven't even used 1/4 of it.

I also use a straight razor, so it's a little more important. And much cheaper than good disposable blades. Between shave soap, new blades, (It's a cheap modern handle that takes them) and aftershave, I figure I spend about $10/year on shaveing and related supplies, not counting water usage, as that's included in my rent. Cost to get started (Handle, brush, mug) was less than $20.

And this is why I don't keep coins in online wallets. They're either converted into GLBSE securities, or sent to cold storage.

Re: [GLBSE] Pirate Pass Through Bonds!
by
trifith
on 29/08/2012, 13:59:31 UTC
A couple more days have rolled past, and there is still no news from BS&T.  Because of the lack of returned funds from BS&T I am in the process of moving additional coins to GLBSE in preparation for paying out the insurance.  To maximise the potential for recovery, the insurance of 0.32BTC per bond will be paid on each of the three outstanding bond issues in weekly intervals two weeks behind the planned redemption date.  That is:

PPT.E on 1-Sept at 00:00 UTC
PPT.A on 8-Sept at 00:00 UTC
PPT.B on 15-Sept at 00:00 UTC

This seems like a fair closeing plan. I already devalued these bonds when the PPT.E did not pay out on schedule. I'm rather disapointed this turned out to be a scam, but not really suprised. My thanks to Patrick Harnett, BurtW and the others running these bonds for and excelent job.

Overall, I'm one of the lucky few to profit from BTCS&T. I diversified at the right time. I even managed to sell my remaining PPT.x bonds at better than insurance rates. Guess theres still some faith in pirate, but I don't buy it anymore.

Re: [GLBSE] Pirate Pass Through Bonds! - Update
by
trifith
on 25/08/2012, 00:06:59 UTC

The choice is either:
a) I pay 0.32 for all outstanding bonds given there have been no payments from BS&T for over a week, or,
b) Everyone waits to see if the funds become available and I pay 1.28.

Choice:
c) pay 0.32 dividend to each bond holder.  If and when BS&T returns the loaned money do a buyback to bondholders for 0.96 per bond.

I would vote for either Option A or Option C. Of course I only hold 5 PPT.x bonds, so I don't count for much. Tongue

You people have no vision. Will it break 25$ mark? That is much more interesting question.

Yes. It will. Eventually I think it will break the $1,000,000.00 mark

Re: Libertarian opinion - Cop Brutality

Ancap here. This is just what happens when there is an unaccountable violent monopoly provider of security services. It's exasperated because the provider of security services is also the monopoly provider of justice. So what we end up with is abuse. Want to stop this? Break up the monopoly and allow free and open competition in security and justice services.
