Re: FPGA miner for altcoin

I think this is a cool idea and I'm glad this got bumped.  Just like any new invention, the cost of entry will be expensive at first and the results won't be as high as they could be, but you have to crack a few eggs to make an omelette.  I see a lot of people referencing AMD GPUs here.  I'm sure the FPGA idea would be a pipe dream if there was an overabundant supply of RX 580s for $200 each.  Live by the GPU, Die by the GPU.  Smart miners look for ways to diversify.  I would definitely buy one of these.  An idea for OP would be to offer some kind of incentive in the form of future discounts and pre-releases to early adopters.

we will release more info on pre-order once we have the prototype board ready. thanks

Please do!  I've been daydreaming about fpga for alts all week and finally decided to look up whether anyone was actually working on it.  Really excited about this. I have a lot of friends mining with asics and gpus and we HATE giving Bitmain our money.

If you get this product up and running, you'll buy a new house with what we'll order!

I'm in China, and my partner has a good relationship with ebit. I'm interested in getting 4 or 5 myself. If you want, I could help distribute the machines from within China and save you from getting stuck with the vat on 20 machines.

Disclaimer: I sell miners myself, and run western distribution for one of China's biggest resellers, but in today's market, $4300 is stupid cheap for 18t. You won't get a used s9 that cheap. Probably not even a preorder.

With a good relationship with Ebit shouldn't you be able to get a better deal on these machines? Personally, we have deals with Ebang as well and offer relatively similar pricing for an earlier shipping date without having to do bulk orders.

Hey there, nice work.

Is it really true that the locals and gov are tryna limit the power usage for mining farms there?

It's local governments, and yeah, it's true. I'm not affiliated with Richestlizza, but my mine is pretty close to his and they've been flipping our power off for the past 48 hours or so. This should create some good opportunities. This squeezing will cause some miners to relocate, but it will probably make some others downsize or quit altogether. I'm thinking there will be more machines on the market really soon.

I was there at the e10 presentation in HangZhou, China.

The chip was produced by Samsung, the design of it and the PCB by Ebang.

There were 4 teams of non Chinese people at the event, 3 from Russia and 1 from Serbia. Every team was a large account to Ebang.

When they announced pricing, everyone was kind of a stunt. Everyone came optimistic to buy a whole lot, like 1000 machines. On that day they offered e10 for $5500, and no one bought anything. Smiley

Next day they lowered the price to $4900, and I still think that no one bought anything.

First batch delivery is set to 20.1.2018

Machine is real, I have seen it working, but just a bit expensive.

Did you think it was weird that they and Canaan did their events at the same time?  That obviously wasn't an accident, but I can't figure out which one was trying to steal the thunder. My guess is it was ebang messing with Canaan. They just seem way more.... Chinese.

Just wondering why you never touched Bitmain's S9 Antminers when it is obviously more profitable (Bitmain's 13.5-14 TH at 1200watts vs Canaan's 7.3 TH at 110 watts)? Don't get me wrong i'm not telling you what to do or anything like that, i'm just curious about what you think.
Hey, sorry for the late reply. I picked the Canaan machines because of how much quieter they are than any other machine.  To begin with, I was running the miners in the spare room in my condo and I've got 2 small kids, so sound is a major concern.  Although I'm underwhelmed by their newest offerings, I'd still recommend Canaan products to anyone wanting to mine at home, strictly due to noise.

I'm a sweat equity partner, owning 40% of western distribution of a company you compete with. I get machines to sell at cost, and I suppose if I asked nicely, I could get machines for myself at cost too, but I'm not the kind of guy to ask for a hand out.
I owe you a beer though, next time I'm in Shanghai. When I first decided to get into mining, our mutual friend gave me your wechat and when I found out how badly you were gouging, I went looking for a better option.
I would never have met my partner if I hadn't been forced to drive for hours on a ruuted highway to visit what I thought was a retail outlet, but turned out to be the headquarters of a big mining/reselling outfit. I thought I was meeting the sales guy, but it was the CEO.
So thanks again for being snarky that day.  I'll be in Manitoba mext month setting up a new mine, and it's all because I didn't like the way you do business.

does anyone have more info about this miner?

what more info is there that you need? Its a crazy overpriced miner that has efficiency rivaled by the avalon 841 at double the price.
I guess you haven't seen the stats on the 841 or the current prices for S9.

Hop on ebay and tell me if you can find an S9 for less than $6000.  Bitcoin going to $20k caused some serious fomo and there are way more buyeras than sellers right now.  Best thing that could happen would be for bitcoin to fall under 10 and stay there for at least a week or two and get some people out of the market.

These machines are probably the most afffordable miners in the world right now.

There's an old saying: everything is worth what its purchaser will pay for it.  I'll happily pay $5000 for an 18th e10 while everyone else is paying $6000 for an s9

But I'm not paying $6,000 for an S9 I'm paying $2,700 from Bitmain.
When you put 13.5 TH/s for $2,700 VS 18 TH/s for $$5,200 it's not a good deal at all.
I can get 2 S9 so 27 TH/s for near the same price so I would say for hashing power the S9 is the most affordable miner for value right now...Or if noise and power consumption aren't an issue Pangolin miner have stock every few days for 11.5 TH/s for $1,188.

Agreed that a price dip in bitcoin would be beneficial for the price of miner's though.

Can you actually get the machine from bitmain, though?  They usually sell out their pre-orders in minutes.  If you've ever wondered why, it's because some people have done enough business with them that they can just make a phone call and pre-order the pre-order, leaving scraps for individual retail buyers. If you wait 3 months for delivery on your miners, it means you've missed out on 3 months of mining.  Pangolin's got a more retail-friendly set up and they release new miners pretty quickly, but you've still only got minutes to get your order in for a machine that's not so great. For that price, why not just find yourself a pair of a6 and not have to wait?

To each their own, but I'd rather pay more and mine today.

Any good seller for graphics card on Ali baba or any where cheap

BR

Yeah, the prices change every day. I sell miners as a side business, and sometimes I just can't get the machines fast enough. A lot of new people want to get into mining and a lot of big miners want to get bigger.

I can sell new s9 for $5100 including shipping to most countries. That price is based on what I can get them for today. Who knows what price the suppliers will ask for tomorrow.

I want to start out with 4 741's then progress from there. I missed the pre-order sale on cryptouniverse today but I live in the US so Blokforge should have the same pre-order sale soon. I have heard great things about the reliability of the Avalons. How has your experience been so far?

I was under the impression that the 741's are no longer available to buy from distributors or canaan.
That's probably accurate. The new a761 and a8 series are supposed to be rolling out in 4-6 weeks (end of January they say, but they're always late).

They're a little underwhelming, honestly. Off the top of my head they're 9ish and 11t respectively.  The new units from Ebit look a lot more exciting. E9++ and E10. The first one is 10nm running at 18t and I dunno about the other one. They're already available for pre-order. I'm getting mine for 32000CNY each.

I've only run Canaan machines up until now, but I'm definitely ready to move up!

It was the time of Avalon vs Bitmain i think. Now Avalon is a nice memory of the past.

They are?  I mean, the company's not called Avalon any more, but I'm enjoying my 741s and I'm looking forward to the 761 which is apparently right around the corner.  If ebang can clean up their production quality a bit, and get power management to a more reasonable level, they'll be a threat, too.

Re: why bitcoin mining difficulty is increased?
by
truenortheast
on 01/11/2017, 13:41:45 UTC
This happens all the time. The difficulty goes up, the price goes up. The price goes up, the difficulty goes up. Hashrate goes up, the price and difficulty both go up.

You don't mine to earn dollars, you mine them to earn bitcoin. Don't pay attention to roi calculators. Just know that you have a machine that makes btc for you and you got it at a set price. You run that machine at a set price, too, but the bitcoin price keeps going up.  Don't worry about what the coins you mine today are worth today. Think about what they might be worth next year.

Re: Investing in a Mining Farm 850 000$ CND ?

Hi Louis,

Mining can be profitable anywhere, but Manitoba and Quebec are likely your best bets in Canada. Affordable electricity is paramount in this business.  How much of his setup costs go to actual mining machines depends heavily on site selection and whether the property is leased or purchased and whether the facility is purpose-built or converted from a previous use such as a factory or a server farm.

What a lot of people forget about industrial mining is that the land you purchase and improve is a tangible asset with a re-sale value and there's a huge market for 2nd hand miners.  The Russians have the cheapest power on earth and they buy up used miners by the thousands, sometimes the Chinese will, too. There are definitely opportunities down the line to recoup costs on the initial investment.

My partner and I are looking to open a mine in Manitoba in the next year, so maybe there's an opportunity for co-operation.
