Re: [ANN] sgminer v5 - new unified multi-algorithm on-the-fly kernel switching miner

Can somebody, who is using the latest nicehash windows build sgminer_v5 (sgminer-5.0-pre-release-2014-06-25-win32.zip) with 14.6 beta drivers , please check if the gpu-engine/gpu-memclock options are working with this build as expected ?
For me, the latest windows build, completely ignores the core/memory clock settings from config file, the GPU boost mode default values are used instead (1070/1550MHz for the given R9-280X cards). I'm unable to change the values from sgminer GPU menu (Shift+G) as well. thanks

Works fine on my R9 290 cards.  Using 14.6RC2 and the 6/25 sgminer nicehash build in Windows 8.1.

So the drivers are broken when it comes to mining it seems?

Yes.

Also, I had to use Display Driver Uninstaller from Guru3D to dislodge this driver from my PC.  Simply uninstalling it and re-installing 14.4 did not replace the OpenCL file with the 14.4 version, so I still had HW rejects.  This is fairly typical of AMD drivers though.

FYI, R9 290 (non-X), AMD 14.4, new settings yield 3800 KH/s:

 -I 19 --gpu-engine 1000 --gpu-memclock 1500 -g 2 -w 128 --thread-concurrency 20481

Only if you are lucky enough to be able to get 1500 memclock.  If you have crap Elpida memory that won't OC above 1400mhz like me, just use stock mem clock and I 18 for 3700KH/s (and probably less power usage).

After moving to 14.6 got an error starting sgminer saying my TC was too high.  Worked fine on 14.4.  Deleted bin, same error.  Decreased TC a bit, it started but all HW errors.  Going back to 14.4.  This is on reference R9 290 cards.

Please try this version https://www.dropbox.com/s/0bjpeub3e2obfdl/sph-sgminerx11v2.zip

Fixed share difficulty being displayed as negative or simply as 0.000. Fixed pool difficulty being displayed as 0.000, pool name is also displayed now. "Fixed" global counters. Their purpose was apparently different, but I changed them to display global i.e total accepted, rejected and HW error of all devices combined.

You forgot a couple .dll files, but this version seems to work great for me.  Using same config I used with the 2% fee miner the hash rate is maybe 0.020mh/s less (not a big deal).

Alright, please test this version for the intensity fix https://www.dropbox.com/s/skv74wv378h5qnl/sgminerx11.rar. Thanks to leasybear for pointing out where the problem was, then I went to the 2% miner and looked up some values he was using and incorporated those in the miner, again, thanks to lasybear.

This still seems to be crashing my driver instantly on my R9 290s.  The 2% one has never crashed the display driver with the same config so idk what's the reason.

This release is bad for 290/x owners.  Something is obviously different between this and the 2% fee miner, because this one crashes at intensity above 15 and the 2% fee one did not.  Unfortunately, I cannot use anything above -g 3 without getting Error -4, so I need the correct intensity setting to work to get a decent hash rate.

That makes this miner bad for 290 owners until the author fixes the intensity bug.  You will not get the 3.7mh+ on this miner until it is fixed.

You guys sure this miner doesn't submit fake shares to offset the increase in hash-rate?

Because I have no idea how it mines 40-50% faster while using 10% more electricty.

this alone make it smell like a big scam, 50% more hash, but 10% more consumption? nah i'm not sold on this

you guys should watch your profit, maybe fake shares are submitted

My profits are up and my pool is reporting the same hash rate as the miner.  I don't think it's a scam, just a developer who doesn't mind breaking the GPL.

ccMiner increased X11 hash rate at least 100% by now and power consumption is maybe 20% higher at most.  You can get an increase in hash rate without the same increase in power usage by optimizing the code.

http://puu.sh/8XFi9.png

Hash rate on my 6x R9 290s (reference design, all elpida memory, all running stock mem clock and minor core OC at 1000mhz no volt mods, catalyst 14.4):

Original sph-sgminer:  2450kh/s  rejects ~1.5%  watts 415
2% fee miner w/ same config:  3075kh/s  rejects ~1.5%  watts 390
2% fee miner w/ below config:  3725kh/s  rejects ~1.5%  watts 425

Above watt ratings are for the 2 card rig.  Temperatures are still "ice cold" compared to what reference cooler R9 290s do on scrypt.  Not worried about my fan bearings going out trying to keep the cards cool.

Very minimal increase in watts from old sph-sgminer for a big increase in hash rate.  My cards are very underperforming R9 290 cards compared to average and don't OC well at all, so people with better OC will probably be able to get even more hash rate.  For me the main secret was lower intensity to 18.

My config is:  -w 128 -g 2 -v 1 --thread-concurrency 20482 -I 18

I could not get it to use my config file, how did you get it to work?

I'm using CGWatcher so that might have something to do with it.  I took all of the DLL files out of the DLL folder and put them in the folder with the sgminer.exe (or else it will give errors).  My sgminer.conf is also in the same folder as the .exe.  Don't use the useless batch file it came with.

For people using the 2% fee miner with reference 290 cards (elpida memory in my case), here is my setup getting ~3.7MH per card with low rejects:

-I 20 -w 128 --thread-concurrency 20480 -g 2 (or 4)
is good for 3.3MH/s

This gets me 3.1MH/s, same as -w 512 and -g 1.  -g 4 does not work (Error -4 on both rigs).

Edit:  This is on a reference 290.

mined X11 Nvdia is better than AMD?

Yes.  The 750Ti can get 1.8-2mh or even more on X11 for only 50-60 watts.  On scrypt it did between 300-400kh.  That is 5-6x the scrypt mining rate.  My R9 290s do 2.47mh on X11 which is roughly 2.9x what it got for scrypt mining and it uses ~180 watts per card.

Basically the 750Ti is 3x as efficient as the R9 290 at current X11 mining rates and power consumption for those cards.

This has at least one bug that I know of that has been fixed in sgminer for ages, and no one has committed to the repo in over a month. Is this project dead?

I also noticed there have been nearly no updates in the repo for a month.  I really do hope someone is working on an AMD optimized miner cause this is ridiculous how inefficient this is vs the 750Ti.  Otherwise X11 will soon be unprofitable to mine on AMD.

BTW, 14.4 drivers got me a miniscule bump in my X11 MH (2.410 on 13.12 to 2.470 on 14.4 for my 290s).

apparently one 750 ti can do the same hash as the 280x, this is insane, the amd x11 miner need an optimization

We really do need an AMD optimization really badly.  My friend has 750Ti rigs and he is getting over 2MH on each card for about 50 watts per card with ccminer.  My R9 290 does 2.5MH for 200 watts.  Looking at how the 750Ti does in regular scrypt compared to the 290 there is definitely room for optimization here.

Otherwise its probably cheaper to sell all the AMD cards at a loss and pick up 750Ti cards.  They are over 3x as efficient right now.

They actually fixed my issue right when I posted here.  There's been no one on the support IRC for the past couple days when I've been on, and they can't look at specific accounts there anyway.  I trust Cryptsy, and it was never in doubt that they would resolve the issue for me.  They have always come through in the past.  I just wanted to get it fixed in a reasonable amount of time, and I am grateful they look at the forum here to take care of things like this.

And I agree, people expecting everything to happen within seconds need to take a chill pill.

The transaction was showing as 0 confirmations in our wallet. A rescan fixed it. Seems to have posted now

Thank you.  I will update the support ticket.

cthulu1:  I assure you I did not make any mistakes to cause the deposit to show 0 confirmations on Cryptsy's end.  I do not have any Cryptsy hate either.  It is frustrating to have thousands of dollars worth of cryptocurrency in limbo for days and creates a stressful situation for me.  My only beef with Cryptsy is the support response time.  I posted here and it was instant, and I am happy with that, but I would have been happier if I did not have to post here at all.  I don't expect instantaneous withdrawals or deposits, but over 48 hours is quite a bit too long.

God, another one of these threads? Give it a rest already. You look through this thread and half of the people complaining respond "oh my problem actually got fixed"...do you think at some point common sense will kick in, or is the sheer thought of such a thing existing merely a fantasy anymore?

This thread was created a month ago.  I didn't make a new one because this one was already here.

The response time from Cryptsy is unacceptable, even if the issue eventually gets fixed.  The issue is not IF the problem gets fixed, it's how long it takes them to fix it.  Duh.

Missing ~2.3 million DOGE... deposited 2/11 17:33 it is now 2/13 22:25 and still not even showing pending on their site.  Their support told me yesterday their technical team will look at it and it can take up to 72 hours.  I find this unacceptable and I will be extremely irritated if my DOGE is not showing by then.  Already lost a ton of potential.

IDK why this isn't in altcoin forum.

OP needs to understand that the govt considers this to be monopoly money unless US dollars are changing hands.  No one in the US govt cares.  No one in FL govt cares.  If Cryptsy is not working for you, go somewhere else.  It sucks but that's life.
