i voted in the private forum. what's the status of the thread closing?

what is the status of the conference, is it happening?

what is the status of the IOTA collab?

mtomcdev will post an update the about the thread. Sorry for unable to give more info, I am not dealing with the thread.

26-28th January we will demonstrate the system to all kind of businesses, developers and IT professionals on the France conference.

It was a great brainstorming dialogue with the IOTA team. IOTA has a fantastic team with many good ideas about IoT. They have our contact details and will contact us when our input is required.

What does mean IOTA "will contact us when our input is required"? was the cooperation finalized or not?

It means that I explained to the IOTA team what we do, what's our IoT vision and what can we bring to a collaboration. We had a detailed chat on Skype and on the IOTA private forum. We had a great discussion about what could be done to create a good IoT solution. The IOTA team has all necessary information to make a decision whether they want to collaborate or not. I will let you know if I hear anything from the IOTA developers.

I look forward to the new year, i am sure good things will come from gadgetcoin!!!

Thank you for your support! We are in the process of releasing the framework/technology and will keep you all updated.

Hi

Good to hear you are making progress. What is the story with collaborating with IOTA? Whose idea was that? Is it happening?

iotatoken suggested the collaboration in this thread. I sent my contact details to iotatoken and now I am waiting for more info about how the IOTA developers want to progress.

our focus is W3C/standardization

If any core GadgetCoin devs are interested in having real productive and mature discussions of potential overlap, feel free to PM me, IOTA is all about inclusion and growing the IoT ecosystem.

Hello

I am one of the GadgetNet/GadgetCoin developers. Also, I am a W3C member and one of the maintainer of the W3C web-of-things framework at https://github.com/w3c/web-of-things-framework. It would be fantastic to work together on standardization and in improving the web-of-things framework!
The standardization is a very long, difficult and time consuming process. We have just started it and as you can see at https://www.w3.org/2000/09/dbwg/details?group=75874&public=1 we work with the world largest businesses to define the standards, and I am sure your team could help us to move the process forward. We could also work together on that project. I will be happy to set up a conference call to discuss the details.

I am also organising the Hereford (UK) Bitcoin Meetup at http://www.meetup.com/Hereford-Bitcoin-Meetup/. It would be great the meet the IOTA developers and supporters there. Please come to our next meeting if you can!

Greetings to everyone. Glad to see some progress =)

Btw. anything interesting during the W3C interest group held on the 26th of November?

Regards.

The presentation and talk with the W3C security interest group went well. Due to the Thanksgiving holidays it was a small audience, but we did the first public step in this collaboration and next time will be more participants. The outcome of the meeting is that we will start working with Siemens and other W3C members on an application to demonstrate the technology.
I am committing the final peer to peer modules to GadgetNet and mirroring everything in the W3C web-of-things system to make the two code bases consistence. I am also creating a hardware demo to explain with ARM and AVR boards how to use the technology.

mtomcdev and tzpardi, can I ask your opinions, is the infinitely scalable micro payment processing, to manage millions of transactions the main issue of IoT at this stage? My understanding was there are more pressing issues such as lack of standards, provisioning, security, etc.

If you ask my opinion, the lack of security, fragmented security policies and tools, and lack of standards are probably the most pressing issues in Internet of Things. To give an example about what we hear from IoT companies and what IoT companies ask, these requirements came up in a W3C web of things user interest group discussion earlier today:

  • device properties with hierarchically structured values
  • device properties whose values are other devices
  • device properties whose values are high data demand streams, e.g. ECG data or video stream
  • devices with circular dependencies on other devices
  • efficient message encodings for data and models
  • to handle memory and processing constraints
  • provisioning and bootstrapping of security
  • secure and robust software updates
  • manage firewalls and NAT
  • lack of interoperability across CoAP servers
  • support for non REST protocols
  • support for sleepy devices
  • high availability and clustering, to manage devices across multiple servers

We, open source developers could make difference and work on the above items. The micro payment solution is an interesting topic, but I wouldn't think the processing millions of transactions per second or even per minute in real time is a requirement for any IoT systems currently.

@mtomcdev

I have completed quite a few P2P and crypto modules. Some of them pulled the the W3C WoT master branch. I think this work can be integrated into GadgetNet. I will continue to make progress on the final parts of P2P implementation.

The u.s. has become a corrupt dump.  It getting more and more difficult for any type of communication.  Between the search engines, the scam that is modern media, and other Internet problems, only the corrupt trash elite are able to get any message accross.

I don't know if it is a consolation, but the UK follows the United States with the Investigatory Powers Bill which was proposed last week.

Given the fact that the vast majority of the Brits are brainwashed beyond redemption, I have little doubt that Chairwoman Theresa Mao will face no opposition for this farce. The same is true with the United States as well. A majority of the population supports these "surveillance" measures by the government agencies against the citizens.

Unfortunately it seems there is no serious opposition, never mind civil unrest to this bill. One article in the Guardian today, that's all.

There are already many developers building applications using OP_RETURN. The BTC core developers know this and I am sure will keep the OP_RETURN in the system.

The volatility is really big issue. It makes very difficult for businesses to start using Bitcoin. The exchanges and merchant service providers impose limits on merchant accounts, and the merchant accounts unable to cash out their Bitcoins in a larger quantity. Until this problem is not solved most businesses will stay away from Bitcoin.

Re: Coinless blockchains?
by

I hear many bitcoin enthusiasts say that creating a blockchain without a monetary token behind it would be pointless, or even impossible. To be honest though, I've never heard an analysis on why that would be. Without evidence presented though, it's hard to figure out if there's actual knowledge supporting such an argument, or a fear of bitcoin being left behind if banks start using blockchain tech without it.

We've already started hearing about big institutions expressing interest in blockchain tech, investing in related enterprises, and even using it. What are your thought on this? And from the technical side of things, what is it that makes a blockchain without bitcoin behind it sound unreasonable?

As far as I know, most of the banks and large institutions are interested in the blockchain technology only. They are not interested in crypto currencies. The blockchain could solve them infrastructure, transaction integrity, high availability issues and to take advantage of the blockchain they don't need a crypto currency.

I will check in the CoAP and MQTT protocol bindings in the next few days. I am also working on the STM32 and ATMEL ARM/AVR integration of GadgetNet.  I will keep you updated about the progress in this thread.

Thanks for posting! Can you tell us more about what you do with Zovolt and how Zovolt plans to use Gadgetnet?

Thanks for your time.

Thank you for your interest in what we do. ZoVolt is a privately owned business. We completed our first round of funding 2 years ago to create a generic IoT software framework and design IoT enabled medical devices. We have more than 100 investors. Some of them are experienced technology angel investors and venture capitalist partners. All those details, including the list of our investors are available at the UK Companies House public register.

I am a software developer being responsible for the technology development of ZoVolt Ltd. I can comment only from technology perspective. We believe at ZoVolt, the GadgetNet white paper outlines a viable alternative to the conventional IoT client/server paradigm. Mtomcdev mentioned above privacy, security, access control, micro-payments, interoperability, provisioning and device management are the main features GadgetNet aims to implement. Those features are key to any Internet of Things devices. Above all the secure access control, provisioning and device management features could be very valuable for Internet of Things businesses. It seems GadgetNet could solve many practical problems that Internet of Things businesses are facing. The GadgetNet technology can yield significant savings in the rigorous and complicated device certification process by providing an All-In-One solution. Once the development branches are stable ZoVolt will use the GadgetNet platform to certify, deploy and operate our medical and security devices.

The ZoVolt team will continue donating software development to the GadgetNet branches. Our only condition in this collaboration was to make the GadgetNet platform open source once the system is stable and releasable.

Very good to see real world businesses recognize the value of GadgetNet.

Can I ask how the P2P video streaming will be used by businesses? The video streaming is an important part of the GadgetNet business plan, but you haven't mentioned it in your post.

We have been working with heath care service providers at ZoVolt to roll out an IoT telemedicare system with installation options for both individuals and residential homes. The patient monitoring devices market worth $22.2 Billion by 2018 http://www.marketsandmarkets.com/PressReleases/patient-monitoring-devices.asp . In addition to the biomedical sensors, IoT camera devices and video streaming are important elements of remote patient monitoring solutions.
We have been also working with security businesses to manage internet connected CCTV security devices. Video streaming is also essential for operating IoT CCTV camera devices.

We will integrate the standardized, WoT integrated GadgetNet video streaming into our commercial solutions. I've designed already the SDP, RTP, RTCP, SCTP and DTLS modules for the streaming solution in C. The next step is to convert the C modules to NodeJs, create a JS binding and API for JavaScript developers.

We have a new developer tzpardi from Zovolt, he and his team donate lots of software development and hardware schematics design, and that helps a lot.

Thanks mate! We will have more time in the next few weeks and will contribute more.

I have been promoting Bitcoin and organizing Bitcoin meetups in the Hereford area at http://www.meetup.com/Hereford-Bitcoin-Meetup/. The next meetup will be next Wednesday 04/11/2015.
Please come along to have a drink and meet fellow Bitcoiners! Apart from Bitcoin we will talk about GadgetCoin. The crypto currency community is very small in the Hereford area, and I will organize a GadgetCoin meetup to meet with the IoT community in Nov/Dec 2015 in London.
