But as I have said before, nobody who owns real Bitcoin Wallet.dat files or something similar (.json for early Ethereum legacy wallets, early Dogecoin Wallet.dat files from Dogehouse etc.) or at least believes that these files are real will trade them for possible fake wallet files or sell them for a buck. It would be highly stupid to give these files away, even for 10 or 50k. I am just writing this to logical inform you, nothing more

Yes, I also think that nobody who owns a wallet file with several million USD in it would share it or if they would then not before they have been sitting on it for several years and many of the wallets here have been tried to be hacked for over 5 years. But I wonder if it wouldn't be possible to overwrite the part in the wallet with a new password?

May I ask if anyone here has ever been able to crack a Wallet.dat? I have read here about an address that had 10,000 BTC where James1971 apparently found the password and is upset about someone who emptied the wallet, if you look at the date it could be true, on the other hand everyone here says that the address or wallet is a fake. I would be interested to know this and also which password it was? Because James said of himself that he is a newbie?

The user James seems to be angry about (@F4LC0N90) is definitely still active and his donate address had several Bitcoins?

Re: Create a seed from a selection of words

Keep in mind that security of revealed 24 words out of order is still not as high as security of a private key because you are revealing your entropy and 620,448,401,733,239,439,360,000 is 6e+23 whereas security of a bitcoin private key is 2128=3e+38.
I think one can feel secure till death or even after.

The normal user generates in his life maybe 10 addresses and not always the sum times the number of people who live in 100 years make it very unlikely.
Let's say all 8 billion people on the planet all generate 1,000 new addresses every second for the next 5 billion years non stop. After 5 billion years we will only have generated 0.00000000000000009% of all possible addresses.
This is so right! And I don't really understand why do some people think that because 2048 word list is public, it will be dangerous and unsafe, I just can't figure it out because they can mathematically prove that the probability of someone bruteforcing their wallet with positive result is so low that we can confidently say that it will never happen. At least one can create a new wallet and transfer coins every year but logically and mathematically, absolutely everyone is safe.

I really pray that one day people will never look for alternative methods of generating bitcoin seeds.

i also think you can do a new wallet from time to time but it also can be unsafe if you think there is a possibility, someone get the same phrase like you. there is a bigger possibility to get hacked if you use a hotwallet or a web3 wallet and infect it with ransomware. use a 24seed and make it as cold wallet. if you want to use the bitcoin for other stuff like collecting it, you can make a second wallet and use it as hot wallet.

The best hub you can get is the Gekkoscience one. Its made to run all the gekkoscience sticks. Personally I run 6x Compac Fs at 530mhz and get around 2.1Th. I use a 419mining fan frame with a 92mm noctua fan to cool them. Its been solid for months and doesnt miss a beat unless my internet connection craps out.
The Gekkoscience One Hub is the same in my link?
I think also for security reason i will buy the one hub, other stuff from China can burn and not controlled what i like on the gekkoscience is the fan connector.

You are mis-reading the specs - that HUB is powered by a 12v 5a (60w) power supply which has nothing to do with what each port can supply. That 12v is stepped down to 5v for each port but each port is still limited to 2.4a. Very few hubs support putting out 3a per port continuously.
How i underatand do i need in the Watt count? 12v*3A= 36 Watt 12*5A= 60 Watt but i also need to look how many ports mean with 5A and 4 ports i need a hub with 240watt? And the Watt can be splitted means if i have 120watt hub with 4 ports and i have 2 miner i can run both of them. How many Watt need a cooler fan?

Can i use this USB hub for 2x gekkoscience compac f?
I need 12V/3A each usb port?

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07Q5X1292/

The spec for that HUB says 2.4A per port (12 watts per port)

So with the 36Watt PSU that comes with it, it should be enough to run 2 of them and enough power left for fans provided you dont over-clock them.

Anyway, I found this info a while back that gives a guide to load Vs clock rate for the compac f.

Code:
Clock : Hub Power : Hashrate
400Mhz : 2.0A : 200GH/s
500Mhz : 2.75A : 300GH/s
545Mhz : 3.0A : 366GH/s
600Mhz : 3.3A : 400GH/s
700Mhz : 4.0A : 460GH/s
800Mhz : 5.0A : 550GH/s

Typically I run mine at 450Mhz, it seems most stable at that rate and averages around 275-320GH/s

Higher clocks and it starts to get very hot and unstable even with forced air cooling. Don't be tempted to overclock too much it'll get too hot.

That means even if i use 5A with a good cooler (maybe a 120mm from noctua) and make a dyi cooler to use it in both miner together it will be run instabile?

Hello i am New in bitcoin mining i want to ask if the GekkoScience Compac F is the best mini usb miner? I know GekkoScience have also better ones but not with only 15w i want try lottery mining with it.
Do i need to run my pc with the USB miner together or can it run standalone? I mean it need Internet or is it with wifi?
If it has wifi and it can run standalone can i usw a USB charger that supports 15w or do i need a USB hub?
If it works not standalone what do you use to run it? Can i use raspberry pi3 or raspberry mini? I ask because of energy costs.

Re: Create a seed from a selection of words
by

on 25/06/2023, 01:26:30 UTC
Adding to the above discussion is it really possible to scramble the words that we actually receive from the automated generator? I don’t know depth of it, but when we generate any address the phrases are already associated with it and there is no way we can change it. I am saying the first time change when we generate it. Let us say I have newly generated address and creating a wallet with Back up keys. Wallet has given 12 words but I want to change them right away manually, why isn’t that possible?

Is it possibly because someone might overlap with my words and sequence? (Though this may not happen considering the 12 words and their numerous combinations. But just curious about the technical explanation behind this.

I had originally found words in the first email from Satoshi Nakamoto that occurred in the 2048 words and 23 of them occurred in the email only 1x see image:
https://i.postimg.cc/L6sMjPdy/satoshi-email-Kopie.jpg
So I thought it could be a code. In the end I used lastWord (https://github.com/PawelGorny/lostword) to create all possible (valid) 24 seeds.

I used this config for that:

Code:
ONE_UNKNOWN_CHECK_ALL
anyAddress
24
word1
word2
word3
word4
word5
word6
word7
word8
word9
word10
word11
word12
word13
word14
word15
word16
word17
word18
word19
word20
word21
word22
word23

(of course 23 other words come in here) as you can see there was set 24 words, but there are only 23 words, so the tool goes through everything and spits out all valid combinations.

But as the others said it is not safe to mix it by yourself, I don't know if it is unsafe from the entropy, I personally think that someone could guess it.

e.g. you could take these 11 words and calculate the missing one to make it valid: satoshi payment perfect story unique unit use system cover bonus era galaxy

The phrase might be easy to remember but a person's mindset is vulnerable, the randomness that some wallets throw together is not and therefore a pattern is hard to discern. I think it is rather all that makes it insecure.

On the other hand, I often think, wallets can do anything if we can not see the source code, when generating the seed could go to the manufacturer, who collects them for 10 years and then clears all wallets that were created with the program. Therefore, open source is very important.

Yes. But what are you trying to do? Usually those requests mean someone's trying to brute-force existing addresses, which won't work.
I don't want to search for specific patterns like 1Love, but create many addresses and pick out the best patterns that I might like. Bitcoin would also be enough for me, it is important to me that it creates 12 or 24 seeds and works with Cuda.

This board isn't the right place for discussing altcoins.
It's not about Altcoins, I'm looking for a VanityGen version that, in addition to Bitcoin, also generates other addresses (also for Altcoins) at the same time, so at best it is also capable of creating a 256bit secure 24 seed.

Use VanitySeach for faster speed and for possible GPU support (depending on your GPU) instead.
With that tool, use -o arg to specify an "output.txt" file where the private keys will be saved.

Bitcointalk Thread link: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5112311.0
Does VanitySearch also support 12 or 24 seeds? If necessary, it also works without would only be nice because of the compatibility with other wallets. Or is there possibly a possibility to convert a private key afterwards to a seed? I think I read something that you convert it into bites and then the bites into words.

I would like to know if with Vanitygen it is also possible to generate thousands of addresses with keys and output them in a file (regardless of the pattern of the address) and at the same time generate addresses of different altcoins like Ethereum, Litecoin, Dogecoin etc...?

And importantly is there a version of Vanitygen that runs with a GPU like Nvidia?

Unfortunately there are so many forks that I don't know which one is safe and which one supports exactly these functions.

I also think that it is unlikely that someone will find the same seed or a seed that matches the same address.
Especially if you consider the following factors:

The normal user generates in his life maybe 10 addresses and not always the sum times the number of people who live in 100 years make it very unlikely.

A hacker generates wallets to crack an existing wallet with money in it, he would have to check all wallets every hour to see if there are coins in them.

Even if a hacker would do that, then his storage space is not enough and it is again limited.

Despite everything, what method would you recommend or what software to create a wallet?
I could also create a 23 digit seed by hand and use lastWord to convert it to a wallet, but that is again insecure. And I am so paranoid to trust the fewest companies. OpenSource Sacen would be a solution, but I don't know the programming languages to verify that.
Apart from the fact that the effort is higher than the value I could ever protect.

I did some research on hash collisions today and there are collisions in MD5 that have 2 inputs but the same output. In sha256 or even sha128 you will never have the same output. I am also aware that a seed of 12 words will surely be unbreakable for the next 50 to 100 years. I think I heard that it is possible to access coins in the wallet with different seeds, but probably with subaccounts.
Surely this will not refer to the direct address of the wallet but a generated in it. And as I understand it, you always have access to all sub-accounts created in the main wallet, no matter what the first generated address is. I mean when I log into Metamask with the seeds I have the same address as Exodus or the recently tiled Atomic Wallet, that's what I mean by main wallet.

What do you think it is possible to get access to the same coins with different seeds? Or did I record there stupid stuff?

Re: Searching Vanitygen with seed + passphrase generator (CUDA GPU Mode)
by
unamic
on 17/06/2023, 18:01:38 UTC
I had found something on Github which is already very nice with GUI:
https://github.com/adrijano/Bitcoin-wallet-cracker

Even if it is actually a Bitcoin cracker, something like this is also suitable for generating wallets and the pattern like "1Love" can be found via search.
If you can write the whole thing automatically into a file or directly as CSV with columns, that would be perfect.
You can't use the Mnemonic generated by that tool in almost all Bitcoin wallets.
I checked it and the first step is quite good which generates a random set of words from "BIP0039.txt" and then set random a 'BIP39 passphrase' from your "password list.txt".
However, it generates the address from the first half of the seed derived from the above (used as PrvKey) instead of deriving a master private key and extended keys using the standard derivation paths.

Plus, I can't find a way to search vanity addresses with it.
It's totally meant for cracking and its mnemonic is just a way to generate entropy, not for wallet generation purposes.

That means the script is not a good way to generate a wallet that i use for finanical stuff? but have the script, if i use 24 words a lower entropy with the wallet applications that use bip39? i mean every 24 words have same entropy?
