After 24 hours of mining on the Coinmine One, I've earned only $0.28 🥴

This device isn't worth the cost today, but perhaps once they roll out lightning network/interest-earning features I'd reconsider.

But $700 is too much for anyone to pay for the Coinmine One

Re: In 2013, the average US income was 286 BTC
by

In 1st quarter of 2013, the price of bitcoin was $135 so if it was over 286BTC, the calculation would be 286BTC * $135 = $38,610 approx. But the ending price for that year increased to $700.

While for 2018, the bottom was $3,300 and the calculation is 8.4BTC * $3,300 = $27,720 approx. I don't understand the metrics and price range that the chart took if there's a specific price that he has used as basis. And as for 2023 predictions, due to that chart the price of bitcoin obviously increased so what if around 2-4BTC?

The price used was the average of every single day's price during the specific year (comes from CoinMetrics.io). So 2013's "bitcoin price" was the average price of Bitcoin across every day in 2013.

Yeah there's not much precedent to know for sure how much volume to expect at launch, but 7 BTC is basically nothing. It's not even $100,000 and this is supposed to be a platform for institutional traders. I'd expect to see trading volume into the tens of millions of dollars very shortly after launch

This was always the "moonshot bet" of the NYSE ownership, looks like an underwhelming start to Bakkt trading with only 7 BTC traded.

Re: What Makes Bitcoin Valuable?
by
undertheradar47
on 11/07/2019, 22:04:55 UTC
Imo bitcoin's value is what it makes valuable. People see an opportunity to earn from bitcoin so they invest on it. If bitcoin has low value today I'm sure it won't be popular. If it has no use on the future technology no institutions will acknowledge it. People will find other where they can benefit to it,

Bitcoin's value? It has no value.

We all know that Bitcoin is so expensive so why do I say that it has no value, what I am saying is the intrinsic value of Btc. It has no Intrinsic value that is the reason is you strip the price of USD to BTC, it will have no other value. I think what you mean is the price of it. The price makes it attract other investors, they always want to ride with the hype.

of course it has value. The intrinsic value comes from the four properties mentioned in this video... https://youtu.be/T4ltMvjGO5Y

Speculation is the main reason why Bitcoin has value right now.

Aside from the news who greatly affects the price of Bitcoin, investors who are speculating its price help too to make it valuable. If the investors know that it will rise then they will buy and vice versa.
I don't think so! Speculation will just help bitcoin to move up. But I don't think it is the main reason why bitcoin is valuable. The primary reason why bitcoin gets value is that people buy it. No other reason than the power of the people. If many traders put their hand in bitcoin, definitely it goes up. Speculating the price is just a tool that serves to surge the bitcoin.

I agree with you here. The 'speculation drives prices' narrative really needs to die out. People speculate on all sorts of things, but Bitcoin still continues to grow in value (over the long term). Speculation doesn't grow consistently over 10 years. Speculation is a pump and dump game. Bitcoin is about sound money.

Me too, I never read any books about crypto or bitcoin and only getting knowledge and ideas about it on bitcointalk. I don`t have time to read, I just ride with the flow and make money.

"riding with the flow" is a surefire way to never make money

Are the information you found on this book cannot be found else where on the internet? And is the information here are just speculation?

The information found in the book summarizes the thinking in the Austrian school of economics, it's the foundational book for understanding why money has value, pulling on hundreds of years of economic theory.

The Bitcoin Standard is the first book I've ever read to simply explain the properties that make money valuable.

If there were such a thing as a 'Bitcoin University', Satoshi's white paper would be covered on day one, and this book would be covered on day two.

I haven't read any books related to Bitcoin yet I do already get the on point purpose on just reading up its Whitepaper on the

first day,it may not be on technical aspects but you can fully understand and get the right idea on what makes BTC as a valuable thing.

Understanding the fundamental properties that make money valuable is not just to help improve your understanding of Bitcoin.
It will also help you avoid all the useless shitcoins out there. More of them will pop up over time, and it's helpful to know whether or not they're actually worth anything.

Kind of a good summary for bitcoin without going into too much of the technical details. Similar to the Evolution of money by Neha Narula.
"Bitcoin is sound money, it is salable across time, scale, space and is censorship resistant".

The book did such a good job of laying out these properties and why they're important. The quote you highlighted is exactly what I use to teach newcomers asking about Bitcoin.

What do you mean by standard here?
I think what makes Bitcoin valuable is because of the system, namely Blockchain is not directly bitcoin itself. Unfortunately, few people misunderstand this section

The title of the book is 'The Bitcoin Standard'

Re: Bitcoin's real exchange volume has now surpassed global gold exchange volume
by
undertheradar47
on 27/05/2019, 21:44:34 UTC
To be honest its kind of hard to really determine exactly which volume is real and which is not even for classic assets and stocks. I wouldnt be so sure about the  article

Even those top 5 exchanges mentioned in the tweet is not free from wash trading.
But if we consider that everything is real and genuine with the published volume, we can say that bitcoin is really doing great in the market.
It only shows to those people who are still hesitant to acknowledge bitcoin, that there's real money involved in here.
A lot of people are still skeptical when it comes to bitcoin, but the numbers can tell something to them. Wink

Bitwise has done perhaps the most rigorous exchange analysis in the last few years to cut out all the wash-trading exchanges. The ones listed are free of fake trades. Highly recommend reading their full report.
