We are currently in the process of being listed on an ICO site, hopefully this will bring out project more to light. In addition, there will also be a bounty campaign beginning soon.

[ANN] [ICO] [UNI] Universal Library | Decentralised Resource Database

▄▄▄
WHAT IS THE UNIVERSAL LIBRARY

The Universal Library is a decentralised resource data base aiming to act as the base for educational research and learning in the future. It is a search engine that will facilitate a rating system with incentives in order to promote the most accurate results associated with the search term. In simpler terms, it is Google but only for educational resources, and displays results that are a lot more accurate.

▄▄▄
VISION

As educators ourselves, the Universal Library team is a firm advocate of accessible education. Not everyone can afford to attend educational institutions, and this is more evident in less financially well off countries. However, if motivated enough, anyone should have access to the materials required in learning, and that's what we aim to create and pioneer.

▄▄▄
TEAM

The Universal Library team consists of multiple Australian University figures who educate for a living. Currently, we have members from the University of Sydney (founding institution of the UNI project), University of Melbourne and Swinburne University of Technology. We are currently still expanding and are in final talks of recruiting 2 more senior educators with IT backgrounds from another major Victorian University. Both our website and whitepaper have more details on our individual team members. Jonathan Thong, an economics and data Doctor at the University of Melbourne (formerly Sydney) manages the PR aspect of this project, and most enquiries are answered by him, unless other specific members are contacted.

▄▄▄
PROGRESS AND DETAILS

-This project was brought to light and founded at the end of the Academic year of 2017, through the interests of University of Sydney staff. Through former colleagues, interstate educators with a passion for the idea were also recruited from Victoria. We are rapidly gaining traction in terms of interest from other domestic educational institutions, and expect several more team members over Australia to join our team in 2018. Currently we have 9 members.
-Currently, our time and effort put into this project is not compensated, and all the work completed so far is out of project interest. This is not sustainable throughout the academic year of 2018 due to University commitments. We will be working on the project 7 days a week: Weekdays outside of our University commitments, Weekends FULL-TIME.
-We have received a grant from the Australian Government as of last month for $700,000 AUD, and the remainder of the required project funds will be acquired through our crowdsale.
-Our current website and whitepaper are NOT final, we expect a completely new website and completely re-written whitepaper with more intricate details to be released after we begin working full time 7 days a week on the initiation of this project (Academic year will begin in March 2018, we hope to work full time between now until then)

▄▄▄
CROWDSALE DETAILS:

-Hardcap: 3000 ETH, Initial fundraising goal of $2.1M USD ($2.7M AUD)
-Rate: 2000 UNI Tokens/1.0 ETH
-Crowdsale officially public as of today 04/01/2018, and will conclude when hardcap is reached, or 28/02/2018

THERE IS NO PRESALE
Note: If acquired funds after the crowdsale concludes exceed our goal of $2.1m SUBSTANTIALLY, tokens from our reserve will be airdropped to contributing addresses, the number of UNI tokens depending on contribution amount.

▄▄▄
COMMON QUESTIONS AND THEIR ANSWERS:

Q: How will your project differ from the collections of books by Google? I think the whole problem is copyright, how do you want to cope with this problem? (Asked by user 'Ted King')
A: Google is a centralised search engine which is not limited to just educational resources. The UNI search engine will be a decentralised resource database ONLY, it is a peer-reviewed encyclopedia which aims to be extremely accurate in displaying what resource you are looking for. We are in the talks with a very successful project also operating on the Ethereum network which targets the issue of digital ownership, they are also out advisors. Existing resources will be fine to upload onto our network given that the appropriate referencing is done (as for all works nowadays).

Hello everyone,

My name is Jonathan Thong, a data Analysis Doctor at the University of Melbourne (previously Sydney) and one of the cofounders of the upcoming project Universal Library. In short, we are working on a decentralised resource database which will be running on the Ethereum blockchain.

We are based in Australia, and currently three public Universities are working on this together. These are the University of Sydney (Sydney, AUS), University of Melbourne (Melbourne, AUS) and the Swinburne University of Technology (Melbourne, AUS).

We are still finalising the details, and will most likely be launching our crowdsale after the Christmas holidays (25th - 26th). I will consult with the team and update this post accordingly. Unfortunately, we have no plans to entertain pre-sales for this project.

Edit: Website is now up and running, feedback appreciated. http://universal-library.net/

We will announce in the next few days in a new thread the official launch of our crowdsale, thanks everyone.
I do not understand, what will your collection differ from the collections of books by Google? I think the whole problem is copyright, how do you want to cope with this problem?

Hi Ted, the majority of educational resources are fine to publish online given that proper references are made. For self-made contributions, we will be partnering with another Ethereum based project which is focused on digital ownership, the name I cannot disclose, but yes they are also our advisors.

As for your question in reference to why not just use google instead, the Universal Library search engine is not nearly as broad, it only acts as an peer rated encyclopaedia which is decentralised. We will further expand on this in our official announcement post.

Hello everyone,

This is the last update for the night, it is very late now in Australia.

The website is up and running, although there may be some minor flaws which we may have overlooked:

http://universal-library.net/

We will make an official announcement thread tomorrow to push our crowdsale. Everything is ready to go.

Please post any queries you may have in this thread and we will answer them tomorrow and if significant will also make note in our official announcement thread. Feedback at this stage is also appreciated.

Once again, the website is:

http://universal-library.net/

Looking forward to starting our contribution period soon.

Jonathan

Edit: We will update the website to include our advisors tomorrow also, we can't say who they are yet but they have advised other token projects too which have been a success.

Hello everyone, apologies on the week of low activity from our side, hope every body had a joyful Christmas and New Year.

To update everyone:
-Our website will be completed tonight
-Crowdsale contract was made over the holiday period, but no one has been granted the contribution gateway or address yet
-Our social media channels should be active and ready tonight also

We are still looking for an active social media moderator for our telegram chat, who of course will be compensated for their time.
Crowdsale address release to the public is yet to be decided, but it will definitely be after we make sure everything above is completed and flawless.

Our crowdsale target is still the same, and we acknowledge that at the time of crowdsale Ethereum may be higher priced than our initial base of $700, therefore should this price difference hold, we will be allocating extra UNI tokens through an airdrop to all UNI holders, sourced from the project's own fund.

Update:

-We have found an app developer, thanks everyone for their inquiries and support.

-We are yet to find a marketing party, so that is still an open position.

-We are looking for a community member (or members) who will moderate the upcoming Telegram channel and relay information for us. A team member will also be in this role but as we are educators we will not always be available to communicate with investors. Applicants will be incentivised with tokens as payment for their contribution. Please note that this is not a full time job by any means, it will only require periodic monitoring in order to maintain order within the group.

Thanks everyone,

Jonathan

Update:

After discussing with the team members, we are currently looking for the following:

-Mobile application developer, MUST be located in Sydney AUS or Melbourne AUS, $AUD salary or token salary (whichever the hired developer wants)

-ICO promotion/bounty, MUST provide testimonial track-record of success, in addition to proof to being that entity (paid in tokens, or crowdsale funds AFTER the crowdsale has ended)

Points of interest:

-We are looking to raise around 3000 ETH (will be adjusted so that 2.2m $AUD is raised ~ 1.7m USD)
-We have received a public grant for $700,000 AUD

Please message or leave your telegram usernames if any of the above interest you.
