Casascius Coins - will they get obsolete?
by
vinaha
on 24/08/2017, 17:10:01 UTC

If I have original Casascius coins, will it be possible to redeem them years from now or will the private address at some point become incompatible with the blockchain?

So maybe this is a stupid question but I'm not following everything THAT closely lately (got a life to live) - but did all the opponents of segwit and Blockstream leave and go mine their own thing? (Bitcoin Cash) Or is Bitcoin Unlimited and Classic and stuff still mining BTC?
How relevant is NodeCounter.com anymore?

Re: Is it possible to Buy a Car with Bitcoin without convert my bitcoin to Fiat.
by
vinaha
on 01/08/2017, 20:31:11 UTC
Yes.

Step 1.  Find a person that wants bitcoin AND has a car that they are willing to exchange to get bitcoin.
Step 2.  Offer that person bitcoin in exchange for the car.
Step 3. Negotiate an amount of bitcoin to be exchanged that is agreeable to both you and them.
Step 4. Exchange bitcoin for the car.
i already told in my post that i want to buy a car without exchange my bitcoin.

If you aren't willing to give them your bitcoin, and you aren't willing to give them your fiat, then why should they give you the car?  Are you looking for a FREE car?  I thought you said you wanted to BUY a car.  That implies that you are going to give them something of value in exchange for the car that they give you.
i think you do not read my post properly bitcoin exchange mean convert your bitcoin to Fiat and i am just want to buy a car with bitcoin. not with fiat

By saying: Exchange bitcoin for the car, he means you will trade your bitcoin for the car.

Exchange: the act of giving something to someone and them giving you something else.

And this what you have to do. Just found someone who is willing to sell a car for bitcoins, and do the trade.

This is so funny!

Re: Bitmain Cash was stillborn. (ITS DEAD!)
by
vinaha

EPIC FAIL!
Bitmain Cash has less then 5% of Bitcoins hash power.
I'm calling it this thing its fucking dead in the water.  There is absolutely no hope for this shit coin.

Even if it manages to produce a block in the next 24 hours it can't survive unless it gains a huge amount of hash power.

LOL one visit to this forum and you see the same typical bullshit shills on this board.

You Blockstream shills really need to check basic facts before mouthing off.

It's like you idiots don't even try to sound half legit anymore.

Just one simple visit to https://pool.viabtc.com/ shows that:

Just ViaBTC alone is using 2% of entire BTC hash power to mine BCC.
(ViaBTC is using half of it's BTC hash power to mine BCC)

Not even counting other pools yet.

BCC Pool
HashRate:127 P
Network HashRate: 6441 P
Active: 10022
Block Mined: 1
Coin Mined(BCC): 13

BTC Pool
Pool HashRate: 300 P
Network HashRate: 6448 P
Active: 24274
Block Mined: 3843
Coin Mined(BTC): 52343

HAHAHA! Oh so yeah,  so according to your calculations that's 2% of the global hashing power. Actually it's more like 1.5%.
What other pools are mining BCC? And how much?

Best practices to be safe after the fork. Hopefully this will help some people still unclear on how to do things.

1-    Wait until after the fork when a few BCC blocks have been mined. There is no hurry, you can wait a day, a week, etc. Copy the BTC private key where you have your BTC funds.

2-    Move all your bitcoin BTC to a new wallet with a new private key. BCC has replay protection, so you will be able
to move your BTC without moving your BCC.

3-    Wait until your Bitcoin BTC is confirmed in the new wallet. Be sure to complete steps 1-3 before moving to step 4.

4-    Install a Bitcoin Cash (BCC) wallet and enter the private keys of the original wallet (the wallet you just moved
your Bitcoin BTC out of). To be maximally safe, the BCC wallet should be installed on a different machine than the one
that has your new Bitcoin BTC wallet on it. You can find a list of BCC wallets on the Bitcoin Cash website.

5-    This step isn’t necessary, but as a final step you may want to move your BCC to a new BCC wallet with a new private key, just to help ensure you don’t mistake your BCC wallet address for the BTC address it used to be.

good advice.

my only wondering is if it's good to take out the cold storage, to claim the scamcoin called bitcoin cash or not, because it's free money you know, but ti's risky to move bitcoin after the fork or move many bitcoin to exchange

Move your coin from one cold storage (paper wallet or whatever) to another. Then use your old cold storage wallet to convert to BCC. That way your BTC is still safe in your possession.

I'm surprised that bcc price is still high and steady this close to the no-trade-zone, especially after pretty much every exchange and online wallet sending emails and notices that say: "Stay calm and it's the end of the world!"

I think come Thursday we will see pretty high BTC prices and BCC will be very tanked.

Re: Bitcoin Cash! Dead on Arrival?

I think I'm going to just hold the coins that I could convert to BCC. It's probably going to tank immediately, rebound a little, then super tank. But come September or October I think it will come back up again when the "2x" part of Segwit2 comes into question.
It's interesting competition. Those who don't like Segwit can just leave BTC now. Also those who still have miners in their attics will probably pull them out and fire them up for a little while. When the cards are played, there's a good possible chance that BCC might have similar value to BTC one day.

Re: Why not both? Why not meet in the middle?
by
vinaha

True, but if Segwit fixes the problem, why not give a (even small) block increase too? Just because a block is permitted to be 2mb, doesn't mean it will be 2mb - if Segwit works, then the blocks will be much smaller but have the capability of being larger if needed.

Why doesn't Core release an update that includes Segwit AND a block size increase? It seems that this is the only thing that both sides would eventually cave to and agree on, that way companies needing Segwit will be able to do business and we can get a larger block size. With such a division being created, it's going to be hard to get an agreement at all unless there's something met in the middle.

Also, if Segwit works, which they think it does, then increasing the block size won't matter because not all the block size will be used. So what's the prob?

One of the arguments is that miners will get a higher fee with smaller blocks. If the miners are wanting larger blocks with BU, obviously they don't care about getting higher fees.

So the difficulty is not how hard it is to crack the equation, but rather the odds of finding the correct equation among so many incorrect equations?

I've got a question, idk if it has been answered before.

Suppose, hypothetically, I'm solo mining.

Suppose, for argument's sake, that I'm using one of those old USB sticks, that run at 333MH.

Is the difficulty so hard that the 333 chip would not be able to crack the calculation, were it to receive the lucky share that would be the next block?

Re: Bitcoin: "A Solution Looking for a Problem"
by

Bitcoin gave us awareness that if you put your money in a bank, you effectively give your money to the bank and government and no longer own your money. You merely have use of it.

Solution to a problem? Sure I could say that.

Looking for a problem to solve? Nope, just looking for awareness of the problem people already have.

Re: what will be the contigency of bitcoin if internet went wrong?
by
vinaha

Ok, stupid question because the Internet is not going to break. But suppose a global EMP were to take out all of the electricity and electronics in the world, and thus the Internet breaks. My guess is that many Bitcoin will be lost (web wallets, even computer based wallets that are not backed up), however the code of the blockchain would not be lost, and Casascius coins and Titan coins and other physical bitcoins could be bartered (even at a high price) with the understanding that when the Internet does get fixed the first thing that coders would do is restore the blockchain.
