Re: VIRTUAL DOCTOR PROJECT - PLEASE DONATE

UPDATE: As one of the first charities in the UK to accept donations in Bitcoins, we were delighted when Bitcoin100 chose our charity for a donation and then more than 40 members of the Bitcoin community chose to show their generosity and sent us Bitcoins. Unfortunately the bankruptcy of MtGox, who held our wallet, means we have lost access to those donated funds. We will continue to watch developments in the hope that we can reclaim our missing funds and in the meantime we have opened another wallet on a different exchange. Please use the following address for donations:

Glad to see you made it outta Newbie. For all practical purposes, this NPO seems like a viable entity deserving funding from Bitcoin 100.

I'm sure you won't mind if another 24 hours passes so that if anybody has a concern it'll give them time to express it, but I'm pretty sure there shouldn't be a problem. If nothing is posted on this thread shedding any negative light by tomorrow evening, I'll contact Rassah and get the ball a rollin'. In fact, that ball is already in motion with this reply.

Bruno Kučinskas

If they are successful in their application for funding I'll go through the details of setting them up to use Bitcoin.

"Give a man a Bitcoin and he'll convert it to fiat, teach him how to use it and he'll join the economy."

If anyone knows places where the virtual doctors can buy the equipment for their charity in btc it will have an even more positive effect on the Bitcoin economy.

UK/Africa telemedicine charity The Virtual Doctor Project accepts Bitcoin

The Virtual Doctor Project is a UK registered charity that connects rural health clinics in Africa with volunteer doctors around the world via the local mobile broadband network. This allows our 'virtual doctors’ to offer free diagnostic and treatment advice, improving the primary health care in local communities and helping to reduce the level of unnecessary mortality and number of referrals to distant hospitals.

In Zambia in Sub-Saharan Africa where we work, 1 in 9 children will not reach the age of 5 and 13.5% of the population is HIV positive, yet there are almost no doctors at all in rural areas where the majority of the population live. We are trying to make a huge difference to very poor areas using the technology that most of us take for granted. Please donate and help us provide the IT equipment and training that they need to connect to our service. Thanks very much!

We are now accepting Bitcoin donations at the following address:

We are also keen to locate UK suppliers of IT and electronic equipment that accept Bitcoin payments so we can purchase our much needed gear using Bitcoin donations directly and then ship them out to Zambia. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

A huge thankyou to Johnathan at MetaLair.org ( No_2 ) for all his help in getting us up to speed and ready to accept Bitcoin donations

In other news, the list of charities and the status of each had finally been updated on the website: http://bitcoin100.org/charities/

Please let me know if I missed anything.

Regarding Virtual Doctors, apparently hey are accepting bitcoins now, and just slapped an address on their website http://www.virtualdoctors.org/other-ways-to-donate/ I hope they ca put it to use somehow. Guess I'll send out a donation?

I talked to Bitcoinstore. Their distributor does't have medical supplies, but Bitcoinstore is very much open to adding such stuff to their site. So if anyone can find a medical supply distributor, let me know and I'll hook them up with Bitcoinstore guys.

Hi Russah. We have received 0.09BTC from 1GaeLnmuz4UH62s41RKMgEGGwygYRyseef in our account. Is this you? Is this a test amount? Thanks very much

Regarding equipment we are always needing to buy cheap/basic but sturdy PCs here in the UK to ship out to Africa, and also basic digital cameras are needed too. We don't provide medical supplies ( we connect rural clinics in Africa with doctors around the world for advice via the internet so we are a technology / information charity rather than a provider of care http://www.virtualdoctors.org) so that is not really a priority for us.

Thanks

Hi. We are a UK registered charity called Virtual Development UK and we run a telemedicine project in Africa called "The Virtual Doctor Project", which uses the local mobile broadband network to connect rural clinics in very poor regions where there are no doctors, with doctors and other medical specialists around the world, for diagnostic and treatment advice, via the internet. We currently have three sites in Zambia with a further three being added next month. As with any charity we are always looking for innovative ways to raise funding and Jonathan (No_2) has been talking us through bitcoin and how accepting donations on our website in bitcoin would be a good idea. We are very interested in finding out more about what would be required of us to do that, and also whether there are opportunities here in the UK or in Africa for us to use bitcoin for our purchases.

Many thanks!

Hi we are new members and are a UK registered charity called Virtual Development UK. We use the internet to help save lives in rural Africa and have been recommended to investigate the opportunity of receiving donations in bitcoin. We are keen to post in the forum https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=52543.1400 so we can have a discussion about accepting donations in bitcoin and setting up our site to receive them. Can we perhaps be upgraded to junior members?

Thanks!
