Re: Zibcoin = µBTC Re: Bitcoin needs something equivalent to a stock split
by

The need is clear, and the microbitcoin is a nice sized unit, but a mess of a word/abbreviation.

What's needed is a new word, related to Bitcoin and just as breezy, but with one unambiguous meaning (µBTC) that still leaves plenty of room for appreciation.

My proposal is here:

Ƶibcoin: Your New Favorite Altcoin

Lots of reasoning there, much of which has already been mentioned here, but the TLDR:
  1          bitcoin = 1,000,000    zibcoin = 100,000,000 satoshi
  0.000001   bitcoin =         1    zibcoin =         100 satoshi
  0.00000001 bitcoin =         0.01 zibcoin =           1 satoshi
...and...
          Ƶ1 = 1 µBTC = BTC0.000001
      Ƶ1,000 = 1 mBTC = BTC0.001
  Ƶ1,000,000          = BTC1

'Zib' can be used as either a noun or verb in casual conversation:

“I’ll bring you a pizza for 10,000 zib”

“when are you going to zib me 10,000 for that pizza Friday night?”

Unless the satoshi is ever made divisible, other new terms won't be necessary. Zibcoin units can be adopted incrementally over time – there's no need for a big synchronized switchover, where old terms change their meaning.

I know it sounds a bit silly, but I think it'll grow on you if you give it a chance.

Such a thing could be implemented, but I can't see it being accepted by a majority of peer nodes. My opinion is that we should not monkey with the code to accommodate human nature. If someone can't get their head around the fact that price is irrelevant then they should trade beenie babies instead.

The attitude of "if you're not smart enough, then f@#k you" is not the way to go.  If you want Bitcoin to be successful then it's going to need to be made easier for people.

I think we need to unify around using mBTC instead of BTC, that's the simpler solution compared to a "stock split" type option.  We may need to split eventually, but it most likely won't be necessary for a long time.

I can see it now:
1) Consensus leads to mBTC preference over BTC
2) Alt-coin pump-and-dump fanatics realize that the minimum lowest purchase price on any exchange is now 0.00000001 mBTC instead of 0.00000001 BTC
3) Every new alt-coin has >quintillion coin total supply

Hah it's funny because I can totally see this happening.

A standard where hookers and strippers tattoo QR codes above their ass so you don't need to carry cash in stripclubs or outcalls... instead just pay with your phone

LMAO... I'm in for this.

Re: Mining is getting me nowhere, what about poker?
by

Online poker is not REAL POKER! You can't go into it thinking  just playing poker will give you a chance to win lol I'm a avid poker player played on Fulltilt made Final table quite a few times and Pokerstars and almost made it on T.V was in the finals before they pulled the plug when BLACK FRIDAY CAME.I didn't make it on poker skill alone.......
First thing you have to realize THERE ISN"T A POKER PROGRAM IN THE WORLD THAT CAN SIMULATE REAL PLAY! There is over a billion random possibilities that there just isn't a COMPUTER STRONG ENOUGH TO PREDICT TRUE OUTCOME even  the Governments computers couldn't compute that outcome! You will never get TRUE ODDS like a LIVE GAME ! What you do get is what makes you perceive as true oddsI'll tell you that much! You have to have poker knowledge to win of course but it's really a entirely different game and takes a lot more then Poker Know How to win. There's a flaw in all poker programs and if your smart enough to figure it out? YOU CAN WIN!and it's a SECRET many onliners KNOW including me but I ain't telling I had to pay big money for it Grin But if you don't already know what it is? Skill alone isn't going to do it the odds are seriously against you because you will be playing thinking you have REAL GAME ODDS.
What drugs did you take?

Seriously, what are you talking about? "Poker program" ?? "it's a SECRET" ??

On online poker sites people play against other people. Not against a program.

dude u dont know what happens behind the scenes... the poker programs are running shit

Pretty interesting article although I do not agree that Satoshi is Japanese or if at all it is one person. To me it's more likely someone British. Anyway, fellow newbs what are your thoughts?

What makes you think he's British?

I've read all his posts/quotes.. it seems to be the general consensus that one of/the Satoshi had a knack for tea & crumpets.

Hah. Tongue Was just kidding, in all honesty I've read all the articles trying to pin down who Satoshi was but there's just not enough evidence one way or the either. It does make for a really interesting topic though.

I actually would have to agree. Once the developer left, it seems that the community may have become more driven to take up the development on their own.

Interesting point.

Re: A question about how stock prices work.
by
virtuexru_shibe
on 19/01/2014, 01:13:39 UTC
It would be the same... simple math.

$10 @ $100 stock = $10 = .1 shares

$10 @ $10 stock = $10 = 1 share

up 10% on both

$110 x .1 = $11

versus

$11 x 1 = $11

LOL

Personally, I really liked that article.. it was super interesting. However I don't think it was the guy who is/was 'Satoshi'. I don't think anyone will ever know! Shocked

Or perhaps he wait's with his eternal 100 million coin banhammer in 30-40+ years in case BTC doesn't go a direction that he predestined.
