It is now more than a year since I opened this post, so here are few more experiences.

1. One PSU died on me because i was constantly cycling the power (like hundreds of times). After it happened to me, i learned that if the rig has an issue, visit the actual rig and fix in place instead fucking it remotely

2. Tried to reverse cooling fan flow direction. When loaded PSU with 1200W of load, it shut down few minutes later on over temperature. Fan didn't speed up, because when reversing the flow, you are screwing up with temperature sensor that relies on correct air flow direction

3. Difference between PD11 and PD19 is about 30-50W of power which they take from the wall, when loaded to the maximum

4. I had many of these PSUs working in overload (1350-1400W from the wall) and while they sounded like SpaceX rocket launch, they never failed.

5. When used with Octominer board (minin riserless board) I used 2 PSUs in parallel. One was powering 4 Vega, and other 4 Vega and a motherboard. There were no issues and system works perfectly like that, but i noticed that plugs that power the motherboard heat more than usual. Maybe due some voltage differences there are some currents flowing where they should not. I now use 3 pcie cables to power the motherboard. Already working like that for half a year on 4 rigs.

Overall, I love these PSUs. Small, powerful and efficient, perfect solution for rigs with mining motherboards that can be powered only by pcie cables.

How is TRM now for heavy, tube or haven algo? I was thinking to stop mining cryptonight R and maybe give some relax to the sytem with heavy algos. I did back out my system a bit for efficiency, and now I average about 2000h/s per vega, i think i use 1100/1000 core and mem (to be honest, since i run MMPOS i don't even know, i didn't touch any machine for 2 months already). What could i expect from heavy algos?

Hi there!

I bought on ebay pci-e cables that are 6p on one end (This plug into the breakout board of PSU) and 6p+2p on other end (this plug into your GPU or wherever you need them)

I am using 2 cables per GPU and never had any issue. But I did screw up when i connected only one cable to power my Octominer mining motherboard, and then the plug burned, now i am using 3 cables to power the motherboard.
I use 17 port breakout board from ebay, these work great for me, and the one with 12 port, i didn't like so much, i think the connectors on them are not as good as on 17 port.

If you don't mind the noise, powering 6 vegas (optimised, of course, not at default settings where they pull 300 watt each) is easy with this PSU. Now my rigs are 8 GPU, i just use 2 1200W PSU, one powering 4 vegas, another 4 vegas and a motherboard, and that works nice for me and PSU is not as noisy as working with 6 vegas.

if you connect 2 separate PCI-e cables for powering the Vega (actually, vega will not work with one cable, both must be plugged) you will not have issues with burned connectors or instability. My only fuckup was that, powering a mobo with only one cable, and that was on 12-port breakout board and the plug burned. I think it was the plug fault on breakout board, not the cable itself.

cheers! Smiley

I would love to see TRM implementation of heavy algos.

Anyway, I didn't even update to 4.5 yet, the thing just works for me super nice. Also, I saw so many versions of memory tweak, but ever since first version that worked with Vegas was released, I didn't even bother to upgrade. Should I? Smiley

Is there any chance to implement hashrate from Team Red Miner? If possible, offcourse.

Thanks for keeping rig.cards up to date Cheesy

It uses less power (5-10%), but it's not faster.

I liked JCE miner but what you tell here is complete FUD. Even JCE himself said that TRM is so good that there is no point for him to continue development.

Re: AMD Mem Tweak - Read/modify mem timings on the fly - [Vega Friendly] [Win/Linux]
by

on 19/04/2019, 15:50:55 UTC

That helped. I was able to run this

WinAMDTweak.exe --rcdrd 19 --rcdwr 4 --rc 35 --rp 14 --rrds 4 --rrdl 5 --rfc 148 --REF 15600

and it said all gpus were updated. So i run TRM 0.4.4 and got an increase to 2110 for CNr! But only on one card. My other 2 cards get between 1880-1910 which was around where it was. I must be missing something here. Running on the TRM 0.4.4, 3x Vega 56 Hynix, 19.4 drivers.

For TRM settings, i just had to change it to cn_config 14+14 since it would fail and give me error 42 on gpu 1 if i had 15*15 or any of the older values.

Also having trouble with running the program on my other systems. I can get a command window but it just tells me that it can't find the file. But the pathing is good, same as it was on the other one that's working

c:\\WinAMDTweak.exe --current
pause

I'm not sure whats going on there now. All files where downloaded to a folder, path looks good, and im running as admin.

For now it feels like i can get all these running CNr at 2100 so i just gotta mess with it more. Later after i sleep.

you are missing numbers of your cards, so only gpu 0 was updated

make the command like this:

WinAMDTweak.exe --i 0,1,2,3,4,5--rcdrd 19 --rcdwr 4 --rc 35 --rp 14 --rrds 4 --rrdl 5 --rfc 148 --REF 15600

or whatever is the number of your gpus

Re: AMD Mem Tweak - Read/modify mem timings on the fly - [Vega Friendly] [Win/Linux]
by

This is by far the best settings I tired.
4x Vega 64 with waterblocks.
Core 1300@0.950V and 1100@0.95V Normally it was 19.24kH/s/Vega. After the timing set is about 21.85kH/s/Vega.
Max temps: Core 40*C, HBM mem 53*C.
Team Red Miner v0.4.3 L22+22. HWinfo GPU chip power 157W. I don't have a power meter.
almost 4h no errors. https://ibb.co/R7CWKjw

vega64 lc is happily mining 21.2kh/s with 1230/1090@800mv showing only 115 watt in HWinfo GPU chip power
I will get to that eventually.

For now I'm testing other settings.
On normal timings the best intensity was L24+24. at the same core/mem freq I had consistent 19,24kH/s on all cards +-0.05kH/s.
On new timings this intensity was not that stable. After that L22+22. After 4,5h of hashing first HW error showed up and speed was 21.85 kH/s but with the spread od 0.4kh/s betwen cards.
After that I have tested L20+20 but that was ruled out because of decrease in hashrate of about 0.5kH/s/cards.
Now I'm using L18+18 and got result of 21.83 kH/s +-0.03kH/s between cards.
Using Adrenalin 19.4.1.

Please, can you write, in a few lines, how yo uset up your rig with 19.4.1, are you using power table, odn tool, if not, what you do? I tried 19.4.1 but frequencies are jumping all over the place, hbm goes from 1100 to 800 and 500 and this drops my hashrate. I returned to 18.6.1 and then it works ok. Thanks!!

Re: Fuse blowing every couple of months
by
vmozara
on 16/04/2019, 21:45:38 UTC

It is happening while rig is on for several days. The fuse is old style one time use.

There are several reasons what could be:

1. Your fuse is bad quality, or it is wrong rating
2. There was a power outage, or several power outages at short time. Current surge at both PSU powerups exceed the current rating and blows the fuse.
3. Load is more than what you think
4. Your PSU is going bad.

For point 1. It is possible your fuses are bad rating. Verify that it really is 20A fuse.
For point 2. When you power on the PSUs, especially 2 of them at the same time, there is massive current surge (2-5x more than rated) for very short period of time. In my opinion this is the most likely reason for your issues, that there was outage of power and then it blew up. Check if your fuse has a SNAIL marking on it (slow-blowing fuse, or delayed action fuse, what ever is the name, there will be a snail or letter T (timed) or letter L (lag) next to 20A rating)
3. Maybe your rigs lose some power optimizations after some time and run the cards overvolted. Very unlikely considering you would need more than 2.2KW of load to blow the fuse.
4. Very unlikely considering you experience this every few months

Is the fuse blowing when the rig starts (for example, after power outage) or in normal use?

What kind of fuse you have, is it automatic circuit breaker or old type one-time-use fuse?

That is some crazy efficiency. I guess that is not even possible on windows, right? Maybe it is time for me to stop being scared and tried alternative operating systems.

Hey vmozara! So, what's the cn_config and clocks you're using? Personally, my Vegas have been doing fine on 18.6.1 and 19.2.2, I haven't bumped 19.2.2 -> 19.3.x or 19.4.y on my dev workstation yet. Turtle is a little b*tchy, for many people the perf is great out of the box, for others it's a circus. Linux has been serving people better than win10. I'm not convinced about the latest and greatest Adrenalin drivers...

Myself, I can just start the miner at any clocks using L24+24 (V56 flashed V64) or L28+28 (proper V64), and I'm at 19.5-19.6 kh/s.

Ok i just tried to fire up turtle mining on one of my 18.6.1 v64 rigs and it went to 19.5kh/s straight away (1430/1100), after that i dropped the clock to 1200 and it went to 19.1 or something. cool!

How to change L26+26 and other numbers? Whatever i write in cn_config, when miner starts it always says L32+32 noob me, forgot -- in front of command

thanks!

Guys,

I just came back from the ship and wanted to try mining new algos.

So far for the Vega I was using windows 10 and adrenalin 18.6.1, ppt and classis disable-enable-clocks-miner combo, and that worked perfectly for me.

But now i tried to install new adrenalin, apply PPT, and tried to mine Turtle, but i can see that my friequencies both core and memory are jumping around and i only get 14-16KH/s

From what I understood, Turtle mining is very low consumption and heating, I would like to switch to it as summer is coming, and CN-R is quite demanding for cooling.

Can somebody make a short guide what steps are necessary with new adrenalin drivers? Thanks guys!

Guys, can you please help with one small issue

7x vega 56 rig 1450mhz core 1100 mem
srbminer 1.8.1
adrenalin 18.6.1
intensity 62,

miner is always startying HAVEN at 12600H/s. But if i stop it many times and restart, it will eventually start at 13000H/s. How can i get it to always start at maximum performance?

Thanks!

I "hate" this miner for one thing. The more GPU core you push, at least on my vegas, the H/W efficiency increases. Then, I find myself pushing the rigs to the edge of power supply limit.  Grin

That is why i would like to see heavy/haven/sabre... implementation of this miner

Any idea why I have no status info or hashrates display for me with 0.4.0 ?

It just says Team Red miner Version 0.4.0 with a blinking cursor behind it.
But mining is working normally in the backround as I can see with my power consumption and with the pool-monitor.

I was using 0.3.7 before that which worked fine.

Did you try to restart the miner? This happened to me when antivirus ate my exe during mining. Mining continued for days until i had to restart, and then discovered windows defender activated somehow and ate my miner exe
