1mm pad may be not enough. at least for some of these shitcans.. 1,5mm...2.0mm needed

Hey guys,...

If you take the time to read my original posts...you will find that I am using also copper (XBox or RAM style) shims...cheap @ Amazon or E-bay...they are filling the gaps ...and thermals too...no Dremel... Wink

Your mileage may vary...Decide for yourself...

ZiG

absolutely agree! i'll definitely pass here.. when it comes into buying these shims and pastes. cheapo pads, but a little bit thicker will do.. these poor shitcans are not worth such investments anyway. imo. Tongue

when i opened my miners i noticed that even some of the capacitors are a little bit higher than these chips. as these components are located on different sides milling need to be done in more places in my case, maybe in 2-3. i think i'll skip that and just use 5 thicker 2mm pads. the original pad is a real shitty one..

here's one sample how components may be touched with heatsink:

arctic mx4? i'm afraid your just wasting your money and time by buying high-end thermal paste, messing with expensive cables etc. you're just pushing your theoretical roi further. although, most likely you never meet ROI using these fish cans anyway.. do it just for fun if you feel you need to.  Grin

I bought these.

Yageo 47.5K ohm 100ppm SMD (Surface Mount) Thick Film Resistor 0402 1% 1/16W RC0402F (Continuous strip of 500)

I have modded 3 GS's so far and they are running fine at 1150Mhz for 4 hours.

I need to get a better magnifying glass to do the rest of these.  It's like soldering a grain of sand.  Are these OK to use?  Is 1/16 ok?

Good work sir! Smiley

The resistor will work fine.

@Amix:
The idea behind the 47kOhm 1 % resistors was that we wanted to have same results for all of our modded units.
With 47kOhm 5% resistors we had the problems with bad units not operating good at 1150mhz. Due to high variance in ashresistors base resistor value.

yeah i see your point and agree with you. i checked mine before hand to check the variance on them.  .2 so it was in line wiht a 1% resistor anyway. but yes as a control 1% is better. 1% is better full stop i was just saying 5% will do as long as your aware of the variance and its potentail for impact - better or worse.
Instead of usig a solidering iron i highly suggest getting access to a hot air station. i soldered smd before but never this small.
Hats off to ANYONE soldering these, thats serious skill. im using my hot air station on them Smiley
May i ask what's the safe temperature setting when soldering these using hot air station? I plan to use hot air station as well but i'm not so experienced on this stuff yet..

You wanna use Kapton tape to cover the SMT units and just leave the exposed area. Kapton tape it's a heat resistant tape, so its perfect for hot air solder. Use experiment on a dummy board before using it on your GDS units.

Tape?! Blown Away?!!! Hot powerfull a rework kit do you have? industrial?. Mine never even twitched at blower set to just under half power. the heat was set at about 200 c. i had the preheater plate on underneath so probably didnt need to be as high as 200. apply the flux will stick it in place, wiht some solder paste if you have it.
The temputure you use will vary, depending on the size of the nozel your using, how far from the smd the hot air blower is, the force of the air, these can all affect the temperture reaching the smd. I couldve connected up my temperture probe to check the surface temputre of the smd, but i had the soldering iron connected up so didnt - inconvience that its one or other (temperture probe or soldering iron. yes just been a bit lazy. next time ill stick the probe on to check the surface temperture when it goes.

got a few more to do but i not had time what wiht work and home.

i think it can be blowed away for sure if you use wrong size nozzle and apply too much air flow. specially cheapo stations may have problems on regulating air flow precisely. using a tape is a very good idea! just to be sure that something unnecessary isn't blowing away..

Does anyone know a Raspberry Pi Image supporting frequencies of 1000+?

Currently I run Hashra Controla, which lets me select core frequency up to 900. Sure,
I can ssh and just download&compile a suitable version of cgminer, but maybe it's not necessary
to reinvent the wheel..
A bit OT here.. but..The latest Controla interface support frequencies up to 1300 MHz. Just use Controla update link.

my package is still sitting in radefeld like if it was glued in there. damn dhl fuckers..  Angry
i'm afraid that i gonna have no time to mess with mining stuff at all. been very busy with other things lately.. if someone in eu is interested in 10-miner package from batch 2 then pm me, i can reship/sell it when it arrives.

It's a standard 10 port usb hub, I'm using 5 of them over the last month and there wasn't any issue ...

In my opinion the usb hub is more then fine ...
thanks for your opinion! i thought ya i'm gonna forced to outsource some other hubs.

i'm wondering if that usb hub usable and stable, for example, not outputting ridiculous voltages to your controller equipment (Pi or whatever)? or is it shitty as well and need to be replaced?
i guess usb hub is one of the most important components to provide good stability and smooth operation these devices.
i own couple of such industrial psus. these aren't really that shitty at all. voltages are as pretty stable and the quality is reliable enough. of course, these aren't meant for open area installation like your average pc toys..

Anyone try out the CuBox-i? Comes with Ubuntu (and android). Do you think I could compile from cgminer from github on it? It's ARM based like the Pi.

http://images10.newegg.com/productimage/15-580-003-06.jpg
I'm using similar ARM based Odroid U3 myself. Everything compiles and runs nicely. No problems at all! I've tried compiling cgminer, bfgminer, cpuminer, using scripta etc.

If you don't want to run a bunch of cpuminers, I have posted modified cgminer sources to allow LTC-only mode: https://github.com/dtbartle/cgminer-gc3355.
Thanks for this!

Any specific reason why the old v3.7.2 is chosen? Afaik.. the current cgminer source is 4.0.1 - 28th February 2014.

Do these have a CE sign?

You can find this on edge of the fan.
CE sign on edge of the fan means actually nothing. In EU, if customs gonna inspect it they won't accept this anyway. CE must be printed in a package as well. Sometimes even this is not enough, some papers are needed as well. If you haven't these they send it back or just gonna delete.
