Very small hobby mining rig almost .6 TH/s pool makes a few dollars more than electric cost a week. Have bought some as well.
I love using it to buy games from Humble Bundle or Microsoft Points or any digital service.
I use it as much as I can.
Have not lost anything in a scam just some wasted hash on pools that never paid. Stick to BitMinter now.

Windows 10 can seek out pirated software
Instead of becoming better, they are making things worse. Luckily I've already downgraded. It looks like Windows 7 will be the best mainstream OS for people who are aware of the situation. Millions were tricked into this 'free' update.
Again I bet this is more for their Windows APPs on their tablet side but it is definitely over reaching their boundaries, if this keeps up I will go ahead and roll back to 8.1. They need to remember desktops are their bread and butter not tablets.Quote
Microsoft recently updated its EULA for Windows 10, noting that the operating system can seek out and potentially disable any pirated software, like games, running on your PC. afaik its for windows-online-accounts which are needed for things like cartana and may be used as a login.
btw also some hardware may get you flagged and banned from there. not sure what hardware. maybe some other controllers?
The hardware Microsoft is trying to disrupt/ban is mods made to xbox 360's and xbox one's. The mods allow you to play copied games. Windows 10 allows you to stream xbox one games to play them on a PC. The wording of Microsoft's EULA is ambiguous enough to cover future possible mods/hacks. They are not worried about controllers
I upgraded a win 7 pro with win 10 pro on a 5 year old Dell Precision workstation. Mining a handful of gridseed 5 chips for scrypt and U3's and an ultrahoist for SHA256. Still trying to get some solo mining to work on it at the same time. Seems win 10 is working OK. no problems yet.

Am I late to a party? I have only been mining small time hobby for about 4 months now and it took cryptsy 3 months to fix a screw up they did and finally get me my 112 8bits. wait let me back up a little.
I have been a QA engineer for 20 years and some of this stuff confuses me. What is a masternode and what is staking and how are they related to solo mining and for that matter the setup for solo mining does not seem to work.
Is there like a super secret stash of info somewhere?

I just plugged my ultrahoist in the usb and did exactly what I have done with other antminer usb asics. Replace the driver with Zadig and use cgminer 4.9.1
It runs fine but there is no cgminer command to change the voltage it is set to .79 but you can change the frequency mhz.
My experience with the antminer U3 shows you need to change both frequency and voltage to optimize hash rate / power.
I jest need to get off my lazy butt and read the linux instructions and see what ssh commands I need to do from windows.

Got an UltraHoist on sale and was wondering if anybody else has some insight into tweaking it.
The hash rate is definitely on the wrong side of the 20% variation but the wattage is pretty close.
Using CGminer can easily change the MHZ but the voltage is fixed at .79. I know with my antminer U3's you have to tweak the voltage and freq to get things optimized.
The PDF instructions mention only a little SBC can change the voltage. Plus the interface looks like it does more tweaking than CGminer.
Any suggestions for a lightweight linux or a way to do this on a windows box? And btw I am using a coolermaster 212 4 pipe 120mm fan heatsink and have been able to push this board to it's watercooled limit without needing a watercooler. But without tweaking the extra hash is not worth the extra watts.

would it be necessary for me to buy an ASIC device in order to use it... These things are kinda costly for me.. Also could you tell me about some cheap ASIC devices... please help i really wanna be a part of this thing...
The little 333 mh/s USB asic's are cheap but an extreme longshot in solo mining low difficulty alt coins. But a dozen of them connected to a pool will get you 30 of 40 cents a month You have to get an antminer U3 as cheap as possible to get in the game at the bottom.

Been doing my homework for a few days. I have a few HP thin client machines that only use 20 watts and have 8 usb ports. Only problem is 128mb ram. Have one ASIC to use as a test.
Have been able to get several minimal Linux installs started but have not gotten Java to work for some reason.
First question will the bitminter client run in only 128mb ram?
second would be for a recommended distro if it does.
Or some assistance in another command line only setup. I do like bitminter though.

Hi,
I don't think it would run on 128 MB memory. You could give bfgminer or cgminer a try instead, they use much less memory.
Thanks, I will be getting back to those smaller units when I get a chance but I now have some better and newer HP thin clients. The latest is working perfectly on windows 7 embedded and it has 2 gig ram. Others have 1 gig.
Initial tests with 2 USB ASIC's show it drawing only 16 watts total power. These things were donated to a local non profit where I have been volunteering since 1999. They were wondering if there was any use for them. Would be nice if they could be traded for donations
