IMHO the internet is a lawless place.

I am sorry and I dont want to offend the OP but if anyone here is arrested today (relating to anything bitcoin) then, unless you happen to live in the same jurisdiction as OP, he will not be defending you.

The following however is true all over the world:

1) Can you be arrested for your involvement with Bitcoin? {yes} You can be arrested for anything at any time. People get arrested unlawfully all the time.
2) Will you be arrested for your involvement with Botcoin? {probably not} The fact of the matter is that it is very unlikely that any government will go after "the man in the street".
3) If arrested will I go to jail? {probably not} Think about it: the presiding officer {judge} would have to be persuaded that you did something illegal {many jurisdictions this will not be true} and that you knew that you were committing a crime {this may vary from jurisdiction} and that the punishment that fits the crime is to put you in jail. - hmm NO.
4) Can I sue member X because of ....... {yes but do you really want to?} We have to find him and sue him where he lives and when we get to court we have to persuade the presiding officer which legal system was applicable and what the principles are.

Practically speaking I dont believe that the courts will assist us in regulating bitcoin. I also dont believe that if the governments of the world whished to attack bitoin that it would be by arresting the people that use it.

I have been thinking and IMHO the best way to get this off the ground is to run some freerolls.

I would be greatfull to some respected member to create an account to which we can donate towards a freeroll. I will donate all my
commission from tradehill (after the paybacks I give) to this cause.

IF you believe this is a good cause then :
1) join the home game
2) if you a respected member post yourself here to do the admin of first freeroll
3) you can join tradehill with my code (TH-R1817) and I will payback to you a min of 0.1 BTC and a max of 50% of the commission earned and the rest will be donated to this project.

Re: Bitcoin - A real chance for Africa?

well I would say more than 80% of people over 18 in south africa have mobile phones. With kids as young as 10 having mobile phones.

Internet prices are about 50% what they were last year this time while speed has increased drastically.

ATM I have a 7MB/s mobile connection with a 5GB cap for about $30 per month. Last year this time I had a 3GB / 1MB/s ADSL for almost double the price.

Play Poker for BTC on Pokerstars
by

I have created a "home game" on pokerstars.net.

The idea is that anyone can join (even people from USA). Then some trusted members will create tourneys. Players will pay entry to the tourney by way of a BTC transfer. After the tourney winners are paid by way of a BTC transfer in accordance with their results. The trusted member gets the "rake" in the form of BTC. This is for creating and admin of the tourney.

As of now I just created the "home game" and everyone interested is asked to join and to spread the word.

In a few days we can start tournies.

The tourney id: #460613
Inv code : USA_PLAY

SPREAD THE WORD the bigger the "home game" the more effective the idea.

I will give 0.1BTC to every user that:

1) creates a Trade Hill account using my refferral code.
2) successfully makes 1 trade.
3) post in this threat your adress and the time the detail of the transaction and I will do the transfer.

you get 10% discount on all your trades and 0.1BTC to start you off.
I get 1% of all your trades.

We both win.

Re: Changing Contract Law to Attack Bitcoin
by

Did you know that international contracts are enforced by nobody?

There is no governing body which enforces international merchant contracts. AND YET, 25% of the world wealth is generated in this manner. Some how people are able to trust each other enough in order to trade and honor contracts regardless of whether or not government would enforce a contract in bitcoins.

Also, in most cases, it costs MORE to bring someone to court than the amount you would get back from winning the suit. So effectively, the government is not backing up those transactions. And yet, some how, people are able to have the trust to make transactions with each other.

I suggest you look up the "Folk Theorem" and "Signaling" as to how people are able to sort out their transactions without help from the state.

For more, Might I suggest this video
