Well this is a fun thread to read through 9 mos. later.  All you hoping for $1000 within 5 years...  $945 today, down from ath of 1200 I think, and it's broken $1000 twice now.  Smiley

I'd like to see bitcoin to make a serious contribution to 'international development' (though I don't really like that term). An international currency has a real potential for alternative economics in places on the periphery of the capitalist economy.

Also, in relation to the hue use of resources, it occurred to me last night that mining rigs could be used as 'dump loads' in renewable energy installations. I have a bit of experience of working with wind turbines, and there is often a need in small scale installations to have somewhere to put energy when there is too much to use or store. With wind turbines, this just needs to be a windy day.

Mining rigs could automatically turn on when the wind is blowing and all your batteries are full.

This is good.  I can't see energy consumption being a huge issue for BTC if our governments ever let us move out of the stone age, or if we stop letting them control us like sheep.

I'd like to see bitcoin proving to be an effective medium for serving the honest needs of the world as far as currency is concerned...more than where bitcoin might be, I'd just like to see a few government officials actually try to start doing their jobs instead of just whoring themselves out to the highest bidders.

I think it makes it harder for someone to just come on and spam every thread.

This is a really neat little site
http://www.listentobitcoin.com/
It follows the blockchain and produces a chime each time a transaction is added as well as producing a bubble with the amount of the transaction in BTC with floats to the top of your screen.  It's like windchimes for freedom.  A couple transactions rolled by that were 13000 BTC and 29000BTC respectively...  That was just before the recent correction.  Those were millions of dollars changing hands.  As I type this there are 3 bubbles showing >600BTC...

Brand new here and haven't poked around all that much, but I wonder if there's a buy and sell board here...if anyone could actually trust each other to make deals...  I think it'd be cool to have localized 3D markets...basically people meeting face to face and trading btc for dollars.  I'm in it for the long haul value as a currency.  But I'd love to meet some people in edmonton who want to sell me coins for $150.  Not that I can even spare it right now but...

hm.  Sounds familiar...I guess that didn't work for those folks.  Hi all I'm noo here.  I'm here to learn all about the ins and outs of making the switch from slave money to BTC.  Specifically about ways to separate my coins for different purposes ie. cold storage, semi liquid, and liquid wallets.  Keeping some anonymous coins would be sweet too, not that I do illegal things, I just like to meet childish behaviour (snooping) with adult boundaries.  Anyways, I'm gonna go try to find out how many posts I need to get outta noobieland.  Cheers all!!
