Why not run Minepeon on your Pi?  It starts bfgm or cgm, or choice in the config setup.  I've run as many as 60 miners across five hubs on a single Pi.  For the best hash and stability I like to keep it under 35+/- sticks per Pi.  I have 3 running now with 28/28/35 for a total hash of 30303mh/s.

I wanted to build it myself. More of a pride "I did it myself!" thing. Nothing wrong with minepeon. It worked great when I used it. Found it a bit unstable though, so I sought out something different.

In the end, I installed tightvncserver and start it as a service. I run my miner with in in the desktop. I know it robs some of the resources, but the cpu never gets above 25%, and is usually at just 5% - 10%.

This is the page that U used to get tightvncserver up and running:

When I look at the PS for my D-Ling 7 port it's claims to be 2.5 amps.  That's why they run 5 miners.  The Rosewill 520 10 port well run 8 miners.  I'm working on converting a atx psu for a 30+ amp 5 volt supply.

you put to much through you could fry the hub...

So I should disconnect it from my car battery?   Wink

Auto-start bfgminer on raspberry pi?
by
wetjet43
on 02/11/2013, 02:56:06 UTC
I've read through the fourms, and came across a few methods for auto starting cgminer, but haven't had any luck so far.

How can I auto start bfgminer on my raspberry pi?

The below commands don't work like they do with minepeon:
sudo systemctl enable bfgminer.service
sudo systemctl start bfgminer.service

I can type and edit:
sudo nano /etc/xdg/lxsession/LXDE/autostart
but, I'm unsure what to add to the list to run bfgminer.

Currently, I have to run "./bfgminer -S all" from withing the bfgminer directory.

Thank you!

What is the right way to start bfgminer as a service? "systemctl enable bfgminer.service" doesn't work.
Thanks.

I found a 5V 4A power supply on ebay that should drive these things up to warp speed on ebay. Not sure how long this link will be valid. If it's dead, just google "5v 4a power supply", or what ever you're looking for.

Don't expect your hubs to power 7 miners on 3 amps of power! 3.5 amps is needed for 7 hubs, perferabaly 4 amps.

Not enough power! These things should power 6 miners with 3A of power, but for whatever reason, they aren't. I found a way to hook them up so they all run. The first usb hub can give the other 2 a little extra juice if you use the labeled charging ports to bridge the other hubs off of.

I'm having this problem too. My hubs are sufficiently powered. I've got 3 - 7 port hubs. On one of them, all 7 miners work. The other 2, every other miner works. Frustrating!

Not all USB Erupters mining on minepeon
by

I've got a Pi with 4 Dlink DUB-H7's with 3A power supplies. Running minepeon 0.2.3a. My PI is hooked up to my lan, not wifi. From my pi, 1 usb hub is plugged. From that hub, 3 more hubs are branched out, and are filled up with 7 miners in each, 21 total. One of the hubs, all miners work. the other 2 hubs, every other miner works. I've tried unplugging them, plugging them back in, re-flashing the sd card and starting from scatch. It's always the same. One hub works 100%, and each and every other hub, every other miner mines. 3 miners mine, 4 dont, and always every other one.

Any ideas?

Raspberry Pi B - Time reset after reboot
by
wetjet43
on 24/08/2013, 05:43:25 UTC
Every time I power cycle my Raspberry pi B, it thinks it's 12/31/1969. Granted, that was an awesome year, we're a little past that now. It seems to correct itself after a few minutes. Isn't there some type of clock on these things that keep going even when the power goes out? Or maybe I shouldn't be expecting so much from a $30 computer.

Thanks!  Smiley

USB Block Eruptor - Invalid Nonce error with Satechi UH-12P - REWARD!
by

on 31/07/2013, 06:08:02 UTC
I'm using CGMiner 3.1.1. I've got a Satechi UH-12P 12 port usb 2 hub, with an upgraded 5 volt, 6 amp power supply. When I run CGMiner, everything works fine for a few minutes, then 3 of the erupters will randomly start giving errors:

ICA1: invalid nonce - HW error
ICA0: invalid nonce - HW error
ICA3: invalid nonce - HW error

Not in that order though. It's pure random.

Here's my setting:

cgminer-nogpu.exe --icarus-options 115200:1:1 --icarus-timing 3.0=100 -S COM3 -S COM4 -S COM5 -S COM6 -S COM7

All help is appriciated!

Thanks.

BTC .5 BTC to whoever can help me get it fixed first, providing it can be fixed without buying new usb hubs! BTC

Re: Investing into Bitcoin Mining

This is just my opinion, but...

I'd highly suggest you stay very far away from GPU mining with video cards. I bought 9 MSI 7950's for $330 a piece a few months ago. Those suckers heat up a room FAST, and eat lots of power. I'd get a few older, used computers with lots of pci slots, and throw a few 4 port PCI USB cards into them, then buy a bunch of USB Block Erupters. Put 10 port usb hubs in each of the usb ports on the computer, and fill those USB hubs up with the USB Block Erupters. I choose USB Block Erupters cause they're actually shipping, and I got mine fast. I'm replacing all of my video cards with USB Block Erupters, as people buy them from me off of craigs list. They're cheaper, produce less heat, and you'll get an ROI faster. 2 USB Block Erupters @ 1.05 BTC each (about $160) gives you nearly the same hashing power as a $320 7950 video card.

Hope that helps.

I invested about $4k into 2 rigs, with 3 7950's each. They've been running for about 1 month, and I've earned 4 bitcoins since. It's a slow payback, but I didn't do this for a fast return. We'll see how well it goes.

I'd give cgminer a try. It's not that hard to use, and you get a lot more controll over your cards. I used guiminer for about a day, and gave cgminer a shot. I'm not going back. I've been mining on 4 7950's for less than a week. Have about .5 btc in profit. Not as much as I though I'd make... I need to hook my other 2 new 7950's up, but don't have any room in the computers case. Maybe I'll get a riser?

I third the dummy plug idea. Also, disable you onboard graphics. Speaking from my experience with my rigs that each use 2 MSI Frozor III 7950's, unless I disable my onboard graphics, and use dummy plugs, one on each video card, I get BSOD's every time my miner starts, and that's with the latest greatest driver from AMD, and the latest version of cgminer as of 05/07/13.

Hope it helps!

Re: Can you mine with multiple cards in a rig WITHOUT CrossFire?
by

Sweet!  Is it a tricky setup (Windows 7), or will CCC and GUIMiner recognize the cards right away?

I just started mining with 6 - 7950's in windows 7 x64. Was using guiminer at first, but guiminer wasn't using the cards full potential. I downloaded a copy of cgminer, and was surpprised at how easy it was to make work. I have MSI twin frozone III cards which are overclockable. With a common box house fan pointing at them, they run at about 570 gh/s and 70 - 72 c.
