Can anybody explain to me what "gen=" does in the bitcoin.conf?

I am just curious really, mining is a verification process, so what is the generation process about? Are there any advantages to setting it to 1?

The lack of GPU in my dedicated box seems to be my biggest issue

In my opinion for the most part, if you just have some patience and take the time to read through the forums most "issue" can be resolved or addressed.

I first learned about bitcoins a few months ago with zero knowledge of them but was able to fix all of my own issues, and just now have I created an account and it was just to thank someone.

1 in 1000 doesn't seem too bad. I have about a 10% invalid share rate.

I think I'll just stick with BTC until I see a use for LTC.

I know Slush puts tons of hardwork into this. Ive been lurking these forums for awhile and finally decided to make an account to thank him, just need to get out of the newbie section first.

Just wish I could contribute more :/ I run a slow CPU miner on an unused dedicated server I rent that I am not really using for much currently.
