Re: [POLL] What altcoins will survive the next 12 months?

lots of coins will disappear since there is no need for the, everyday new coins emerge which all take value from the bitcoin network. At a certain point a big sweep will make them worthless, also the sidechain idea will make most of them useless.

Re: is it still worthwhile to get into altcoin mining now?

i'm still in the research phase... if you were just starting out, would you build a rig or just buy certain coins on an exchange?

It also depends on how much to you are willing to invest in trading/ building the rig and switching coins. Some people see building a rig as a hobby others like trading.

Buying a certain coin is more risky because you put all your eggs in one basket, when mining you can always switch to a new coin.

i have had the same problems connecting 4x 290x on the mobo. after a lot of hassle i got them all 4 working with powered risers and the molex in mobo not used.

On another rig i used the molex on mobo to power and didnt use any powered risers. this gave far less trouble and is working stable ever since. The trick is not to use the 16x 16x riser at all. Just use 1x 16x on all gpu and no powered risers

altcoin total hashrate increase
by
wijnand1
on 17/04/2014, 09:53:44 UTC
recently i read that the total hashrate of the altcoins is about 650.000MH. With the new asics coming out how will this increase:

Knc miner

2000 x 300mhs
2000 x 150mhs

mining asic technology

~4000 x 250mhs
~4000 x 125mhs

Alpha technology

?? x 100mhs

Others

~500.000mhs

this would atleast be a total of 3.000.000mhs that will be added to the network this year. Will this mean that every gpu miner will move to n-scrypt or x11?

interesse in MAT 2x250Mh/s

Reageer of pm me bij interesse

how many Mh/s is total scrypt network
by
wijnand1
on 09/04/2014, 14:34:53 UTC
I have been wandering how many Mh/s of mining power is out there for scrypt.

As far as i can see the total network of litecoin is about 170.000Mh/s and dogecoin about 70.000. So combined its about 240.000Mh/s
Is there a way to find out how many Mh/s there is for all the other scrypt coins or to make an educated guess?

scrypt miner te koop 3600kh/s
by
wijnand1
on 18/03/2014, 22:32:12 UTC

Re: Share your experience on RAM/GPU ratio
by

on 02/03/2014, 22:59:57 UTC
I agree the number of GPU's will most likely affect the use of RAM. However I know people running 5 290x on same mobo, psu and config using only 4GB, where as mine wouldn't work with 1 card on 4 GB. The only thing i could come up with was the us of another OS. Looking into windows reveals that 2gb of memory is reserved for 1 GPU

Might it be an option to contact the dev of sgminer since this is being maintained and updated for GPU mining and is essientially the same as cgminer?

Share your experience on RAM/GPU ratio
by
wijnand1
on 02/03/2014, 22:48:25 UTC
I have heard numerous stories about the amount of RAM needed for mining. When building my own rig I encountered problems when running 1 290x on 4gb RAM (Windows 7), an error showed up in cgminer. After pacing another 4gb the error disappeared.

Having this error is searched for info and saw many different views, varying from 2GB/GPU needed to people running 5x 290x on 4 GB of RAM.

I thought it might be caused by the operating systems that is used?

Please share your experience and expertise.

I've been using megamultipool for the last couple of days, so far so good. The hashrate does not seemd to be very accurate since it is sometimes higher than my miner states.

Re: same cards different hashrates in miner
by
wijnand1
on 28/02/2014, 18:01:03 UTC
Update:

Second rig running on 4 cards as well. The same problem occurs. But it does not seem to be an issue with the cards itself or the slots they are in.

When running on 2 cards the 1st and 2nd differ in speed. Adding the third card made the first two run at the same speed and the third one faster. When adding the forth card number 1 and 3 were slower than 2 and 4.

Any help would be very welcome,

thank you in advance.

could this just be a problem in the miner itself, since the total averages of the two rigs are more or less the same
