Saw this on Powtoken's twitter page today,

"Caution: This account is temporarily restricted
You’re seeing this warning because there has been some unusual activity from this account. Do you still want to view it?"

Anyone know what unusual activity this message alludes to?

More and more bounty campaigns want you to do a KYC and send them all your personal data (id card, driver's license, address, phone number...).
It's a question you have to ask now.  Does this ICO require participants to KYC now or in the future?

I have started a few bounties and after a few weeks participation they announce there will be a KYC.  It's really disappointing when this happens and there is no recourse.  What can you do?  You have just helped promote a ICO and without warning they add this big or even insurmountable hurdle if you are from a blacklisted country.  If you ask them they will say, "well we did stipulate we can change the rules whenever we want.  By participating you tacitly agreed to are terms."

Re: CEFS - CryptopiaFeeShares - Do the math

This token looks an amazing investment right now

Look at BNB and KCS tokens, they exploded the last few days.

I do not believe Cryptopia compares to Kucoin and especially not to Binance.

Binance is the exchange.  It is the lambo in this race.  There CEO is a wunderkind.  Transparent and when they say they intend to have the best customer service I actually believe them.  They truly are an international exchange having numerous locations globally.  This last point is important.  A one country ban or a European Union ban would effect most exchanges dramatically(Cryptopia based in New Zealand).  Binance would still be operational.

I am not saying Cryptopia will not turn into something special but it wasn't too long ago that they almost shut down.

Re: BTC up on gov shutdown news?

I still don`t know what is the opinion of the US government about bitcoin.Do they support it or no?
I can`t find any evidence that proves any relation between the US government shut down and this btc price increase.Perhaps the btc price is just recovering from the small crash that happened two days ago.
People in the USA have more money to invest in cryptos, after the taxes were decreased.

There have been rumors from the beginning that the US Government founded Bitcoin.  The US have a luke warm feeling towards Bitcoin.  As long as they can track it(which they can) and collect taxes on it(which they now do) they are content.

The world economy is tied to the US economy more so than any other country.  US economy goes up so does the world and the opposite is true as well.  It is kind of like the Bitcoin of the world economy.

A government shut down does not mean politicians stop getting paid or the military disbands, nothing crazy like that.  Although a government shutdown sounds bad it really does not have any negative economic repercussions(short term).

Re: Are you optimistic about Ripple?
by

I am not optimistic about Ripple and there are some reasons for it. Ripple’s founders will love to tell you about the high-profile deals they are conducting with banks around the world, particularly in Japan and South Korea. But what they conveniently leave out is that these banks plan to use Ripple’s revolutionary software but not XRP. Think about it.

There is some truth to this statement.

Some Centralized authorities are warming up to the idea of a decentralized ledger.  However, not just anyone will be allowed to have access to the ledgers.

I recently read about the EUs study on blockchain technology.  They believe in implementing blockchain but only if a central authority runs the decentralized ledger. lol.

On the other hand...

99% of the cryptocurrencies have no working product.   Ripple is one of the few techs out there that has been implemented by established institutions(if only as a test).

I prefer to keep my coins on different platforms and ofc physical wallets are preferred but I am not a stickler on that point when it comes to ease of access.

Have you heard the saying don't put your eggs all in one basket?

Cryptocurrency will never match the security of a brick an mortar bank from the 20th century.  Mistakes happen.  Developers are not perfect and bugs are a reality.  Hackers find and exploit these bugs for their benefit.  But most likely it will be some sort of user error.  Keeping all your private keys and passphrases on a laptop, open a webpage and viola you have just installed a malware program and lost all of your files and soon your cryptocurreny.

I find the most stable/reliable wallet for a particular cryptocurrency and keep my funds there(ease of access like I mentioned).  Same goes for my backups.  I keep them in different places using different mediums of storage.

Re: Why South Korea made this big step about banning Bitcoin?
by
william8829
on 16/01/2018, 19:10:12 UTC
Governments exist to rule the people.  They need the money of there citizens and anyone else that does business in there country to accomplish this.  They found out they are not getting there money from these exchanges.

For example 40% of Ethereum trade happens on Korean exchanges.  That is billions of dollars a day, the taxes related to this trading is poorly regulated.  They are loosing money.  Losing money equals losing power.  What Government would allow that?

Do you actually think Bittrex and Poloniex will still be in business in a few years.  Wait till the US does their raids.  Dollars to donuts there are ongoing investigations for all major exchanges in the developed world.

Bitcoins worth is not its USD equivalent value.  Its value is estimated in the use of its technology.  Peer to peer electric cash not peer to centralized exchange.

If you want that power.  Hold your private keys. Run a full node.

Re: China has made crypto illegal is it true?
by
william8829

is it true that China has made crypto illegal or something is that why everything has crashed so bad??? This is getting worse..

Previous posters have repeatedly said China does this.  Ban. No ban.  It is just how the governments works.

Is this a bad thing, in terms of price?  Short term yes of course. Bitcoins price will fluctuate wildly on rumors and or news.  Negative news or FUD as its commonly referred to, has and most likely will drop the price further unless positive news soon follows.

Long term this is a good thing.  Healthy financial markets go up and down.  This bull market peaked in December and since, has steadily declined.

Re: Market cap of crypto 1% of worldwide stock market cap
by
william8829
on 15/01/2018, 22:31:59 UTC
Cryptocurrenccy is a term that covers more than Bitcoin. Bitcoin makes up roughly 30% of the cryptocurrency market capitalization.

One thing about bubbles that is being underscored. Bubbles tend to occur when something is overvalued in relation to its fundamental metrics. Bitcoin doubling its userbase every 12 months or so, and coinbase reportedly having 100,000 new sign ups per day could imply that bitcoin hasn't hit its all time high, yet. Bubbles tend to occur when growth statistics flatline and value continues to increase without support. With bitcoin growth and price increases appear to keep pace with each other, which could imply there is no bubble as price hikes are merely a product of natural growth, etc.

Sound reasoning.  Bitcoin price has inflated many times over the years.  It has had major corrections as well.  A correction is very possible.

A crash is certainly within the realm of possibility.  Emotional investors are a huge contributing factor when it comes to crashes and there are plenty of them that have invested in Bitcoin.  Even if it does who cares.  Crash does not mean Bitcoin will disappear.   As long as the community has interest it survives no matter what the price.

Amazons stock crashed  by more than a factor of 10.

For some months now, I have been using Bittrex and Binnace. Bittrex used to be good but they recently started having issues and their support seems to be unstable and less fair this days, so I have stick to Binnace, they are stable, good support and no hidden charges or so.Binnace recently opened platform for new registration, I don't know if it has closed back again.

I agree.  Binance is my current favorite.

When I first signed up with Binance.  I knew they wear a better place to keep my NEO(antshares at that time).  So I moved them from Bittrex. I miscalculated the withdrawal fee and lost nearly a whole NEO.  You live you learn right?  Fast forward a few weeks and that NEO I had lost showed up in my Binance wallet.  Nothing they had to do but they did.

Also they airdropped Tron to all of their members.

Re: Five common mistakes made by Bitcoin users
by
william8829
on 13/01/2018, 19:59:07 UTC
I have made plenty of mistakes when it comes to Bitcoin.  Mistakes are part of life.  I have learned mostly through my mistakes.  If you are learning is it really a mistake?

The first time I took interest in Bitcoin(no pun intended) was around 2012.  I was using it buy things.  Goods and services traded for Bitcoin.  This may be thought of as a mistake considering the growth of its value these last few years.  When i first realized this myself I thought it was a grievous error in judgement.  After a half-minute of kicking myself I reminded myself that Bitcoin was meant to be used exactly in this way.  Its a currency not a piece of gold.

Maybe it is not so much about avoiding mistakes but learning from them.

Nine years is such a short time.  I have been active off and on for around six of those years.

Things that I will always associate with Bitcoin.  Whitepapers, blockchain, cryptocurrency oh my! Without Bitcoin these words would mean nothing to me.  Silk Road, That phrase would have reminded me of history class and men like Marco Polo.  Not anymore.

The birth of Bitcoin was a seminal moment for cryptocurrency.

I am grateful to the creators, progenitors the communities and hopeful that talented men and woman will contribute to the Blockchain as advocates of Bitcoins core values.  Giving power back to the people.

The other day I realized that I had never saved my Google Authenticator secret key.

I do not think your mistake is uncommon.  In the future you do not have to reset your authenticator.  You disable it and re-enable it.  When you re-enable it they provide a different code.  This action in itself should not freeze your account.

Re: How would Bitcoin react to a global financial crisis?
by
william8829
on 09/01/2018, 20:05:58 UTC
I guess it would depend on the nature of the crisis and people's behavior during the crisis. I'm not sure if many would run to an intangible asset once a crisis occurs. If people choose to panic sell and dump all their coins, then the value would drop or possibly crash. Gold may have been able to withstand a crisis however bitcoin may not be that resilient despite that its decentralized. Unlike with fiat, it does not have the same kind of use for people yet so it's hard to tell how it will fair in a crisis. The thing is, it's going to be affected for sure in any part of the world that it is in.

Exactly.  What financial crisis are we talking about?  What will be the underlying cause of this crisis?

The 2008 crisis had it roots in something called the The Gramm–Rudman–Hollings Balanced Budget Act.  This law was enacted in the 80's and resulted int the sub-prime mortgage which lead to the banking and financial crisis.

Will the nearly trillion dollars invested in cryptocurrency and trillions of dollars to follow contribute to the next recession?

Re: Year of the Cryptocoin
by
william8829
on 08/01/2018, 16:50:16 UTC
New investment and new cryptocurrency technology are coming in waves.  We are right in the middle of one of these waves.  Whether this growth indicates a healthy cryptocurrency market or a cancerous growth(probably both) remains to be seen.

I believe we have all seen the comparison between the dot com bubble and cryptocurrencies.  The similarities are no coincidence and at the same time history never repeats itself exactly.  There is parity but also novelty.  If we look at the parity side of things it would appear that we still have some time for growth before the bubble bursts.  I am basing this off of the amount of money invested up until the crash(3 trillion). Technology is moving at an ever faster pace so I would guess within a few years.

The only thing  I can say definitively is this is a very interesting time to be alive.

18% of Investors Buy Bitcoin With Borrowed Money

I am surprised it is so low.  From the thousands of posts I have read I was under the impression that every other person interested in Bitcoin was taking out a second mortgage on their house.

the average annual percentage rate (APR) on a credit card is 15.07 percent

The average annual return on Bitcoin is 2400%.  I am not saying it is the smart thing to do but I get why they are doing it.  Greed.
