Re: Is bitcoin a "private" currency?
by
wilson_bitbybit

I think it is wrong to call bitcoin a "private" currency.

On the contrary, imo bitcoin is much more of a public currency that any national currency is.

I think pseudonymous currency sounds more appropriate.

But if this is not enough for you, you just have to wait for features like MimbleWimble. It can make Bitcoin much more anonymous.

So it's like PayPal controlled by 12 entities. Could not it have regulatory issues?

What about this KYC/AML compliance, does this extend to the whole project?

If one creates an altcoin today, what are the 3 most important factors that would make it valuable? Or 3 activities that would do so?
They way things are, any cryptocurrency can have speculative value these days. But if you really want to see your project succeed, you need a usable and innovative product, a good team of developers and a large user base, which will depend on the kind of product you're trying to develop.

From the looks of things other cryptocurrencies are really rising this year
Look at Ripple it is second on the marketcap
You should bring valid arguments to support such a claim.
Ripple is up, but then what? Everyone know it's a centralized scam, and probably the next bitconnect.

The hype around altcoins is cooling down, and when that happens is natural for large investors to consider putting their money back into Bitcoin, since it's the most safe and stable cryptocurrency.

Re: Is it safe to participate in ICO's?

Right now there are many ICOs coming out, is it really safe to participate in any of it and spend that much? In participating ICOs I have high hopes that these coins could be the next Bitcoin or other currencies that are really going up in the market.
Your first mistake was expecting these currencies to be the next Bitcoin. You should be looking for something that is capable of doing something different from what Bitcoin already does, because Bitcoin is already very efficient at what it does.

The kind of risk you are taking by investing in ICOs is also not reasonable. Let's say you invested in Bitcoin when you asked this question, right now you would have more than doubled your money, without having to be exposed to insane risks.

I would say that 1% of these coins will bring something good to the ecossytem, either independently or as something that can be used as a implementation in Bitcoin. But that's also say that 99% of altcoins will make a lot of people lose money.

One of the prime questions always disturbs me that How I can invest Bitcoin? How can I trust any of the exchange if I invest in them?
Exchanges are the most convenient way, but you are not forced to buy from them, you could use localbitcoin to find a reliable seller a choose one among the many payment methods that they offer.

I've heard that is quite simple. You give millions of dollars to someone that doesn't have a working product, and very often not even a prototype, and there is no institution enforcing them to deliver, so you depend on their goodwill.

But you might hear different descriptions of how it works. Roll Eyes

The whitepaper says peer-to-peer electronic cash. So yes, Bitcoin is money, a new kind of money.

Re: What is the best way to make money with bitcoin in 2017?

Holding Bitcoin seems to have been the best way to make money this year, and it will probably continue to be for some time.
Some very good analysis indicate that Bitcoin may break previous highs, and I agree that it might not be so difficult at this point. I'm expecting at least $6000 per Bitcoin before the end of the year.

If you're worried, is because you invested more than you can afford to lose. I would not sell it right now, if you ask me...

Not too long ago, we were at $5000 per Bitcoin, and doing a technical analysis, we can see that it's not going much lower than the current price.
Regarding the fundamentals, I also don't see good reasons to say the price will go much lower. In fact, it's the opposite, since we have segwit and there is no more spam on the network.

First of all, any altcoin, if taken as a long term investment, it's a huge risk. But if I had to choose, I would consider coins that are not a copy of Bitcoin, and whose innovations make things better, not worse, which is what we see in most altcoins.

I think there is room in the market for currencies that bring a greater focus on scalability and usability, especially when they are technologies that are totally different from blockchain, such as DAG based cryptocurrencies. Take Byteball as an example

Re: Is bitcoin a good way to invest your money ?
by
wilson_bitbybit

For me, bitcoin is the best investment in the modern world. Its price is skyrocketing, no matter what, and in the future creates the prospect of financial security.

Even if the price is pretty much stable it is still a good investment because it was shown to us many times that a year or two later the price will be higher thatn it is now. The only thing you need when investing in bitcoin is patience. Don't sell when it is dropping, wait patiently and you'll see it will rise in the future.
Indeed, it will be difficult to find something with more upside potential. But I advise you do not try all your capital invested in such a volatile asset, or you can be emotionally destabilized if the price falls too much, which can lead to bad decisions.

So far it seems the altcoins have been following the Bitcoin trend. But I think we can see a turn of events once Bitcoin gets segwit. Most of these coins would be even more worthless.

Re: Is Zcash worth to invest in it?
by
wilson_bitbybit
on 23/07/2017, 02:38:47 UTC
I agree with that. I think the market cap of the ZEC could be 50% of the bitcoin in the long term.

Maybe. ZEC has been on the rise over the past months. If it continues as is, it may return to its original price levels since launch. This anon coin has a unique privacy feature which may turn out to become revolutionary once mainstream businesses and darknet markets start accepting it.

While ZCash could be considered as a good investment nowadays, other Zero Knowledge based cryptocurrencies can be ideal for investing in the long term too. ZClassic, Zcoin, Kurrent, and Komodo are all great coins with promising features. This last one called Komodo, has a GUI wallet with multicurrency support, as well as strong security with Bitcoin's hashrate making it a great sustainable cryptocurrency for the long term.

Nevertheless, only time will tell if ZEC's underlying technology would be put to great use or not. Just my thoughts. Grin
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, no doubt there is some innovation in this. Some things are still confusing to me, the ZCash ceremony, for example.
I think there is still room for a major ATH, but the guy is expecting 100x return, kind of crazy goal.

Has anyone seen this? T.E.T.O - trustless total order for transactions in a DAG based cryptocurrency

The DAG technology seems to be quite solid, but I did not understand how mining decentralization fits into this.

Re: Do Altcoins really have a future?
by

Since blockchains do not die, I think altcoins have a future, but I can say that in the long run the chances of having a good financial return through Bitcoin are much greater.
Some alts may give you 3x, 5x or even 10x in the short term, but in the long run Bitcoin can be a much more rewarding investment.

Re: What would happen if Bitcoin became a legal currency?
by
wilson_bitbybit
on 26/06/2017, 18:22:28 UTC
If it really becomes legally regulated then it could be chaos. Because then government who is responsible for its conversion to legal currency would also regulate it in their terms and condition and then you can say that it is fall of decentralised system of bitcoin.
If there would be some chaos, I don't think that would be the reason. Isn't most exchanges already regulated?

Also, people could always use p2p trading, which seems to be the most efficient and decentralized way of trading bitcoins.

Re: [2017-06-24] What is SegWit2x and how could it affect Bitcoin?

So, is segwit2x a new consensus among miners... At this point it is quite clear, segwit is the way to go. I just hope they're not adding garbage code to it.
