Re: Zcash/Zclassic/Equihash GPU Benchmarks
by

As you can guess from the title, I've made a benchmark list for Equihash. I've gathered info from bitcointalk and the Zcash/Zclassic chats/forums. The list is not yet complete (it will most likely never be since the miners get updated so often and plenty of new cards are coming up this year).

Much of the data is being hard to get without first hand experience but I managed to gather some, this is the list at the moment: https://zdeveloper.org/wiki:zcash_mining_benchmarks
I'm waiting for corrections and updates. Maybe it will helps some people decide which cards to get next time they assemble a rig.  Smiley

Most power efficient (Sol/Joule) cards:

AMD        RX480   Sapphire Nitro+ OC   8GB   305/140 = 2.2
NVIDIA    GTX 1070   -                           8GB   450/100 = 4.5

Shockingly, Nvidia is more than twice as efficient...

Nvidia truly beats AMD when it comes to mining Zcash, but lacks efficiency in Monero and Ethereum (except for those special cases where people have developed some very efficient but private Nvidia miners).

NVIDIA    GTX 1070   -                           8GB   450/100 = 4.5  With these settings it's more like 140-150W. I have 2 x 1070GTX and with -150 CORE and 70% POWER LIMIT I have about 110W/card @ 385sols/s.

If you have MOLEX or USB power cable on risers YOU MUST connect them, and you MUST connect 2x MOLEX on the motherboard.

I wouldn't go above 75%, but it all depends. Some cards "love" high rpm, some don't.

I would say that 1000W + 850W should do the work.

Re: Newbie trying to set up a 6x7950 rig

With 6 7950 cards, you should go with 2 rigs, both wit 3x7950.
For each rig you should get decent PSU, somewhere in 800W range (not less than 750W) with single 12V rail design.

Price difference between 2x 750W PSU and 1x1500W PSU (for 6x7950) is more than enough to buy 1 motherboard, CPU, HDD and 4GB of RAM.

You will avoid any potential windows problems when running 6 GPUs on one system (I didn't see a singe system with more than 5 GPUs), and you will have couple of inches between cards, unlike with 6 cards where you can't get more than 1". Like that you will have better cooling, and quieter system.

I would go with Coolermaster V1000
http://www.coolermaster.com/powersupply/v-series-psu/v1000/

Single rail 12V design, powerful, silent, with good price.

You should get 2x R9270X or if you have money R9 280X. There is no game that will not run smoothly on R9 270X Crossfire on max settings (1920x1080 with 4xAA). For 2160x1440(1600) with 4xAA you will need to have R9 280X crossfire for maximum performance. You can play games, and while you sleep or are not at home you can mine LTC.

Re: Aftermarket cooling for 7950/7970 Cards - Where are the options?
by
winner999
on 23/11/2013, 20:48:31 UTC
I find myself in need of some aftermarket coolers. I like the Accelero Hybrid 7970, but the price is loopey. The Accelero Extreme 3 7970 is priced right, but they're out of stock everywhere. Deepcool Dracula has dropped off the planet.

Am I missing something, why have all the reference 7970/7950 cooling options disappeared? What do we do ?

Take a look at Corsair H60, it can be mounted on 7950/7970 if you have some basic "modding" skills Cheesy

The last one was from 511 to 609.000.000  It's increasing for about 20% with every change, for the last 3-4 months.

I think 970A-G43 is a better choice.
