Ironically, the more successful they are, the faster they will be put out of business.

how so?

If they are successful, amazon will see a high demand for bitcoin based purchasing and start accepting it. The what's the need for them? Maybe the will continue to find discounts elsewhere, but the no longer will have the bitcoin advantage.

How long after new block is reward available?
by
wolverine.ks
on 06/03/2014, 12:46:53 UTC
After finding a block, when is the block reward available to use? Is it available immediately? What happens to the block reward on branches that are pruned? Or are new coins not spendable for so many blocks?

There would have to be a way for users to withdraw directly up to the amount they put it. That way everyone is there own dead man switch. Enough with the voting stuff. Don't tell doog what to do with other peoples money.

There could also be a nlocktime transaction after each bet that is posted to each user and is only valid at some future date. I'm not sure if nlocktime is useable in 0.8.6 yet.

Web of Trust based on multisig addresses?
by
wolverine.ks
on 07/02/2014, 06:56:24 UTC
Could you make a web of trust that would be easy to use and which benefits from bitcoin innovation and security, by using multisig addresses and transactions?

Two people meet, and make a multisig address. Each person sends 1 satoshi to the multisig address from their respective 'identity address' as a way to 'sign' the identity of the other person. In each deposit you include a message indicating the address is to be a WoT entry. A WoT app or a WoT feature in a bitcoin wallet could scan the blockchain at any time. A revocation could be incorporated if the multisig only required 1 sig. And the amount of trust could be indicated by the size of the deposit.

Thoughts?

is there a way to request anonymous account balances more frequently than just on Sundays? I'm trying to develop an widget that displays you JD account balance. this might be useful to investors and bettors with bots.

It's a cool idea. I'd definitely consider adding it as a feature. I don't see an easy way to scrape the info though? Would the user have to input their j-d password just to see their personal profit?

that's great. I know JD has a bunch of investors and bettors with bots that would use this.

to get personal profits a username and password would be needed. however, JD uses 2fa so it doesn't totally compromise security. additionally JD publishes anonymous account balances on a weekly basis. it may be possible to get anonymous account balances on a more frequent schedule or upon request.

@bitcoinproj has already implemented hourly total site profits in their twitter feed, so that seems like JD already has a method of automated requesting that information. I know total site profits would be pretty helpful too.

colored coins representing other cryptocurrencies?
by
wolverine.ks
on 31/01/2014, 18:35:09 UTC
if a colored coin can represent anything, what would happen if a colored coin were to represent litecoin? or multiple cryptocurrencies? or all cryptocurrencies?

could you introduce a new coin with no mining simply by piggybacking off of current bitcoin mining, where all new bitcoin blocks would be colored to represent your new coin?

if I sent a colored bitcoins that represents a litecoin, the litecoin never moves but still changes ownership. sounds a lot like mastercoin.

what if the bitcoin and litecoin were colored to represent each other? could you send either one and essentially be sending both? could you expand on the capabilities of a cryptocurrency by coloring it with capabilities of another cryptocurrency?

I was thinking about making a widget just like this that displays the current profits of Just-Dice.com. or better yet the profits of a user. Investors and bettors with bots would use this all the time.

any chance of getting the source code again? I would follow all license requirements and give.credit where its due.

or you could just consider this a feature request and code it yourself.

Taxes = Proof of Work
by
wolverine.ks
on 29/01/2014, 23:53:59 UTC
In middle school we had to run laps in physical education. 5 laps =  A, 4 laps = B, 3 laps = C etc.... After each lap we would be given a popsicle stick to prove that we did the work required to get the grade. Obviously, the sticks had no intrinsic value, and were not backed by anything. However, you could run extra laps and then trade your sticks for goods and services from other students. e.g. The athletes trade sticks for someone else to do their homework.

In this scenario, the teacher is acting as the central bank, the sticks act as a currency, and when the teacher collects them, that is a tax.

If we apply this same scenario to a government/country....Just as the sticks are without value, the taxes collected from the citizens are not valued in and of themselves. They are merely a proof that the citizens have completed the work required by that govt/country.

This would explain why taxation gives currency value, and why a govt does not just print unlimited money (besides hyperinflation). They dont care about the paper. They only care about keeping the population doing the government approved work.

Thoughts?

go to www.keepass.info and download the password manager for your system. make all your passwords huge and complex. (capitals, numbers, spaces, special characters, >64 characters long). secure the database with a big and easy to remember password. optional: write it down and store in a fireproof safe. optional: backup database to thumbdrive(s).

then enable 2 factor authentication everywhere that involves bitcoin. if they don't offer 2fa, do not deposit.

never share you're passwords or 2fa secret with anyone. no exceptions.

this all applies double when handling other peoples money.

good luck.

if the site wishes to cater more to large gamblers, then make an invite only room. it would require very little moderation.

let the trolls stick to the trollbox.

let the investors talk to other large investors.

no chat setup is going to eliminate the need for mods. but if you can add functionality and/or decrease noise without requiring more mods, I cal that success.
