Re: Who likes pod miners?
by

Both MacEntyre (bitshopper.de) and CrazyGuy (ASICPuppy.net) desire that these Terminus pods had a case or housing.

I'm figuring on adding screw holes to the PCB to help facilitate this, but I have not the resources to manufacture a case worth selling.

Anyone care to help out with this?

ASICPuppy appears to only sell a few accessories, and Bitshopper throws 404 errors all over the place. I wouldn't worry about accommodating those guys. A case would just increase cost and restrict airflow.

Re: Modifying a USB hub for extra power and "I did it!" showoff thread

Very impressive! I'll be interested to hear if those hubs can handle that much power once you've cranked the frequency on the 2pacs up to 250 and beyond.

Still a work in progress but this is what i have so far

My monster 2pac consists of ..

1x raspberry pi 2

4x 2.0 usb hub, With 5v brick cutoff and the plug wired into the power supply
http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-10-Ports-USB-HUB-2-0-High-Speed-with-Power-Adapter-Black-/190574386344

1x mean well lrs-350-5 with a 3d printed coverplate
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mean-Well-LRS-350-5-300W-5V-60A-Single-Output-Switchable-Power-Supply-/122214364987?hash=item1c748b373b:g:~28AAOSwo4pYH3aB

4x custom 3d printed holder attached to 1 1/2" wood dowel holding 5x usb cables (white)
https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=5431

using the method here to connect power ( i found soldering to the jack just wasn't worth the effort)

Still working out overclocking, will update when i get it figured out. But I know it runs stable at 100mhz Smiley

I want bigger blocks but without segwit soft fork. I would accept segwit as a proper protocol upgrade though (not as a soft fork). Thankfully BU team is already working on SegWit as a hard fork solution.

I'm proposing a hard fork with 4MB blocks and segwit. No soft fork. Sounds like that meets your requirements.

A very entertaining thread! My favourite part is when Alex.BTC takes the time to attempt a thorough, well-reasoned argument, then completely destroys his credibility with a ridiculous string of insults at the end.

I really wish the discussion would focus on finding a solution a clear majority can rally behind, rather than endless attacks on the "other side". Here are the facts as I see them:

Segwit fixes a lot of problems, the biggest being the transaction malleability problem that is holding back layer 2 solutions. It is well tested and has already been approved by a lot of community members. On the downside, the claim that "segwit is a 2MB block size increase" rings false with a lot of people because it comes with caveats.

EC is poorly tested, and it's easy to see how it could be abused to centralize mining power. But it does provide a quick solution to transaction capacity without caveats.

The "hard forks are dangerous" issue is starting to feel like a non-issue when we have this level of conflict in the community.

Both sides have enough influence to prevent the other side from getting their way. We are currently in a deadlock.

So - what does everyone want? Is there a solution that can satisfy the majority of users? What is it?

Core and its supporters want segwit, primarily because it provides the foundational changes needed for a layer 2 scaling solution (Lightning Network), and other improvements down the line like Schnorr Signatures.

BU and its supporters want an immediate transaction capacity increase.

Both sides want more transaction capacity, and the proposed solutions are not mutually exclusive. I propose a hard fork of bitcoin with 4MB block size increase and segwit included.

Now, let's debate the merits. Put aside the personal, emotional arguments for a moment. Who can argue that the current deadlock is preferable to a 4MB hardfork with segwit?

Re: If bitcoin dropped to $1, what you do?
by

on 23/05/2016, 14:45:48 UTC
Bitcoin would only drop to $1 if:

  • another coin emerged as clearly superior and everyone switched over
  • a fatal flaw was discovered making bitcoin easy to doublespend, steal, or counterfeit
  • the world's largest nations unilaterally declared bitcoin illegal and punishable by serious jailtime

In any of those scenarios, buying more bitcoin at $1 would be very foolish.

Re: Do you have 100+ BTC ? - How do you plan to cashout ?
by
wormbog
on 13/05/2016, 17:19:09 UTC
The question is not "should" you cash out, it's "how" do you cash out with minimal risk and expense?

First, consider where the coin came from in the first place. Did you buy it? Mine it? Do you have any records of where you bought it and how much you paid?

Assuming you are in the USA, you will owe taxes on whatever profit you made by selling the bitcoin. If you can't show how much you paid for it originally, the IRS will assume you got it for free and tax you on the whole amount.

Now, let's say you send 100 btc to Coinbase to sell and cash out. First, you can only withdraw up to your daily limit each day, and the limit starts at $3k. You can increase your limit by providing additional proof of your identity.

Now, let's assume you've been withdrawing $3000 per day into your bank account for the last couple weeks. Your bank is going to notice that you've suddenly got a bunch of money moving through your account. At some point they're going to freeze your account and notify the IRS that something suspicious is going on. Then your bank will contact you and ask for some explanation of where all that money is coming from. And they're going to want to see some proof. You need to be ready to answer those questions before you start cashing out. You might also want to tell your bank in advance about your plans.

Now, if we're talking about cashing out 1000+ bitcoins, talk to a lawyer.

A few people have mentioned they cannot get their wallet to sync to the network.
This is because you need to create a trickycoin.conf file.

I have uploaded my config file onto mega.

Simply copy/paste the file into your USER/ROAMING/TRICKYCOIN folder then restart the client.

I think the big block rewards that are coming will spark more interest.
In the meanwhile I am still talking to exchanges. Thanks for mining!

You were right, the pool is gaining miners, and I'm seeing some exchange activity too.

looks like block reward is in a cool-down period for a while, then jumps back up. gives a little time for the word to spread - not a bad strategy.

So should we just sell off whats left in our wallets and call it a day?
Or hope for some cool shit Spots might come up with to raise the value.

I tripled my investment. I think I'll just let 'er stake and see what happens Smiley

Personally I made a small profit and am now staking to see how many coins I get before the whole thing breaks down.

I wouldn't buy any more at this point.

Folks, there is no future for 10k. The interest rate is simply too high. You can use a compound interest calculator online to see what I mean. Here's the one I used:

http://www.thecalculatorsite.com/finance/calculators/compoundinterestcalculator.php

Let's say you buy with a single 10k coin and start staking. Using a 10,000% interest rate and daily compounding, your one coin will grow thusly:

Month 1 - 1,579
Month 2 - 2,495,966
Month 3 - 3,943,284,117
Month 4 - 6,229,847,648,442
Month 5 - 9,842,304,172,222,498
Month 6 - 15,549,489,632,025,366,528

You're reading that correctly, in 6 months a single 10k coin will have staked its way up to over 15 QUINTILLION coins.
