I will do escrow. If some one wants them.

Not sure what pricing is so do research to figure a fair price for buyer and seller.

Thanks Phil. Much appreciated!
Pricewise, it's always a mystery to me. And yes prices are negotiable although on the rx 570's at $1850 for all 6 I think it's a fair deal... but then again... the market dictates.

MSI Rx 570 8Gb Unknown Bios
by
yoyome
on 03/12/2020, 20:01:22 UTC
I also posted this in the SRBPolaris v3.5 but got no attention.

Was wondering if amd/msi released new bios versions for the polaris series that are not recognized by SRBPolaris?
Are there any better bios editors that might get it right?

Weirdest thing just happened.

I picked up a few rx 570 8gb refurbished by MSI from newegg.
They look brand new with matching s/n boxes (not brown boxes)
When opening the bios in SRBPolaris V3.5 (same for V3.3) it reports "Bios is UNKNOWN, card may get damaged after flashing"
It shows the timings and everything but so far I can't get it to work with 1500> straps

I saved the stock bios with Atiflash_293 (maybe that is the culprit?)

With stock straps it hashes at 28.7mh/s in PhoenixMiner_5.3b (27-28 pool side) OC'd to cc:1170 and mc:2100 both on mV:850
No crashes and Phoenix reports a 68C temp with 108.4W power draw.
Wattman reports correctly the OC settings applied by OverdriveNTool

If I copy 1500 straps > then flash the new bios, pixel patch and OverdriveNtool I can't find a setting that works.
I tried every combination possible from cc 1100-1200 and mc from 1900-2100 and mV from 850-1000
As soon as Phoenix miner starts and applies the OC settings it either hangs or bsods.

Tried 3 different amd drivers. same outcome. currently on blockchain driver

I can provide the original bios if anyone can or wants to help investigate

I guess it's not terrible with stock hash. It's been about 2 years since I last did this so maybe I'm not up to date on things. I remember stock hashes on rx 570 used to be in the low 20s

Any help is greatly appreciated

Re: Antminer R4 firmware

So, I just checked the freq is set to 522.xx for both boards.
That explains the low hashrate, but I have no way to bump it up.
It is labeled R4_8.0T... the thing is that on pool side it sometimes drops down to 6.5Th (24hr average 7.6Th)
The manual one is 8.5Th - 8.7Th consistent.
I might try the Nov 2018 fw and see if that works better.

Thanks for all your input guys!

Hmmm, so I ended up flashing the Nov 2018 FW and not a single change Sad
Still dead set @ 7.5 Th, chip freq 522.xx for both boards.
Fan changed from Fan3 to Fan5 but still set at 1800
No HW errs and temps are really cool:

Chain#          Freq(avg)          Temp(PCB)          Temp(Chip)
7                   522.17              49-44                 64-59
8                   522.26              43-55                 58-70

I noticed that if you try to access the advanced settings by requesting the /cgi-bin/minerAdvanced.cgi page it loads and I can see all the available frequencies.
I tried selecting a higher setting like 587.50 but I get a message saying:
"It will take about 3 hours on search frequency before mining! Are you sure?"

I wasn't sure Smiley

Anyone ever played with that? and more importantly... Did it work?

The only reason would be the manual one at 600.00M freq hashes @ 8.5-8.7 Th @845W
The auto freq one is dead set at 7.5 Th... much quieter and draws only ~800W but would like to have the flexibility of tinkering with it.
I figured Bitmain might have some sort of a check on FW date and wanted to ask before I actually gave it a try.
So I take it there's no known workaround?

just a quick question. I have 2 of these R4s and they have different firmware.
One has control over fan and frequency, the other does not.
Can I export the old one and flash it to the other? Any issues with that?
I'd like to have manual control on both of them.

by
yoyome

well, let's break it down and see what comes out of it... shall we???

Gigabyte X399 Aorus MB          $359.99 --(newegg)
Threadripper 1950X          $959.99 --(newegg)
6 x 1080ti MSI Gaming x          $4799.99 --(newegg)
16GB Ram          $159.99 --(newegg)
1200W + 850W PSU          $240.00 --(newegg)
Kingston 120GB SSD          $35.00 --(newegg)
TT Flow 240 water cooler (CPU)          $137.49 --(superbiiz)
Veddha 6-9 gpu Open Case          $59.95 --(ebay)

TOTAL          $6752.40

Now keep in mind this is with all brand new parts.
Start replacing some stuff with refurbs, ditching the 1950x and getting the 1900x and I can see this dropping to ~5k.
Add to that your buddy's assembly fee (let's say $500.00) and you get a very decent 6 gpu 1080 ti rig. All fun and games...

Here comes the not so funny part of getting your money back.
whattomine.com currently estimates that rig at $9.78 /day profit... that seems a bit low in all fairness... so I'll bump that up for you to let's say $15 /day

At $6752.40 that's a ROI of 450 days
At $6000.00 that's 400 days
At $5500.00 it's 1 year

Also, keep in mind that if your buddy is charging you to host it, that generous $15/day profit will take a $3-$4 hit

Bottom line is... do you like gambling???
You could very well come on top much sooner, markets could rebound, coins could start shooting through the roof again and your ROI could be 3-4 mos.
Or you can always hold the coins and who knows... 10 years from now you could be a millionaire.

I just wanted to put some of it in perspective for you

Good luck with whatever you decide.

Other than the weird plug it looks nice. But, you'll need an outlet to match that plug. So talk to an electrician or do some research. Also notice that PDU is split in to 2x 16A circuits. This is why PDUs are a pain in the butt, they are generally for data center use where you have lots of low amp draws. I had posted some low outlet count PDUs (this higher amp per outlet), you might search for those part#'s as well as some of the recommendations in that thread.

Very true. I missed the whole 2x 16A circuits thing.
Still, I think it is the cheapest switched pdu on ebay for 220V+.
I think I might be able to have 2x S9s + 1x gpu rig /circuit. I'd be ok with that, knowing that I can power cycle them remotely.
Then again, maybe I should just go with the HPs phil mentioned. They seem sturdy/rugged and would probably last the lifetime of the ants.

It just bugs me knowing I won't be able to reset them remotely.
If I had them at home it wouldn't be a problem, but having to drive across town to unplug something is just stupid.

Hey Phil,

after banging my head all night trying to find a switched pdu I came across this one:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/263395755382

would you say it's worth it???
3x more than the HP but it is rated at 32A

so 32x230 = 7360W

so 5 ants? safely?
and it's switched.

I looked it up on the manufacturer's website. this is a 2016 model and the msrp was $2300??? that sounds a bit crazy.
The plug is a commando 32 (w/e the f that means). I'm sure I can make it work as long as it is a US standard.

Let me know what you think.

again, I greatly appreciate all your input guys.

omg phil, thx for those links... you're a life saver.
I will definitely go with the HP pdu and the c20 to c13 cords.
The psus are the apw3++ (got them with the ants from bitmain)

Saturday we'll have the electrician come over and see what we can do.
This will be set up in a friends basement I guess we'll have to wait and see the voltage lottery coming in from the street.

Any tips on how to set these up to be power cycle-able remotely?
Is there a c20 smart plug that could work with these??? not sure how steady/reliable these S9s are... back in the day my S1 would go for months unattended.
I guess I'll have to manually reboot them if nothing else. (which will suck cause my buddy's shop is across town)

really appreciate all the info guys.
I think I will have to go with 2 x 30 Amp lines.
Reason being, I am yet to find a 50A pdu under $1k.
I think I might have to ditch the switched version also... so basically just use the pdus as glorified extension/expansion cords.
I still need to find a way to set up remote access/power cycle.
Worst case scenario... I will be having 3gpu rigs there as well, running Win 10 with Teamviewer and guess i could use one of them as a main access point for the network to log into the ants.
That would take care of remote access but still need a way to power cycle remotely.

I have been using the tp-link smart plugs (with kasa) at home for the gpu rigs and they do work ok but no clue what I could use on the c13/c14 plugs for the ants

Any ideas?

hey guys,
I'm sure this has been beaten to death in the past but would greatly appreciate a bit of input.

1. How many S9s can I safely connect to a 220V 50A line?
I was reading that each S9 needs about 7-8A.
So I was thinking that 5 should be ok. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
2. Would 6 be pushing it and be out of the safe limits???
3. What gauge wire should be used for such a line?
4. Any recommendations for an affordable, time-tested switched pdu? ($200-$250 range)

I'm setting up a small op, will be starting with 3 but planning on adding more soon.

any help is greatly appreciated
thx

If/when folks are interested I still have a fair number of s3's that can be had just for cost of shipping within USA only.

Just found your post.

I got 1 Msi armor with micron and 2 with samsung and I'm seeing the same discrepancy.

I'm actually having very little luck in getting the samsung ones over 30mhs... Past 2020mclock they start throwing hdw errs.
Meanwhile, the micron one blasts thru at 31mhs with 1180 cclock 2150 mclock and 850mv super stable no errs.

If you don't mind could you share the samsung strap? was it just a 1750 copy to 2000?
How can you run them at 2250??? one of mine bsods at 2150 the other just throws tons and tons of hdw errs

Mine are all MSI Rx 580 Armor 8g OC. Are yours armors or gaming?

you can review my findings here:
MSI RX 580 Armor 8g OC (Micron vs Samsung) - issues with Samsung

stock
micron was 27mhs
samsungs were 26mhs
