The introduction of asics may have upset the equilibrium but the response has been overkill.
If people cannot mine because it is cost-prohibitive, the whole system falls apart.

Kind of what happened to UTC in my mind.  Its very design defeats its own objective.

Thwarting hashers is not a good way to make this system work.  We need a better way.

I paid 249 for my single asic 5 chip.  It now sells far below that price.
Im not upset though, cause I knew that walking in.  With asics come volatility.
Zoomhash has always been fair and honest, and continues to offer products at competitive prices.
If you think you got it bad, check out the "rigs" on Ebay.  Used to be a ratio of $1,000 per MH.  Those prices have been slashed, and even at that they cant compete with asics.

This is a game of technology, prices and time.
What most people are hedging their bets on is where the prices of Bitcoins (and altcoins) will go.  But nobody can tell the future, and nor can the future of technology prices be known.  Its all about time and price, the price of coins and the price of technology.  As for time, you can wait and hope that the new price falls within your favor, or you can buy now and hope that time plays the greater role.  Anyway you slice it its a gamble.
Best of luck to all of you, for whatever price you paid for an increasing hashrate, wherever this trend may take us.

I did the slow way, pay by bank check, for 1 unit, and there was a long pause.
It was so long I had thought about cancelling and ordering from another place (I placed my order last Saturday 3/1).
Prices had gone up, prices went down, but my price, the price I had ordered at Zoomhash honored.
It was only one unit, a speckle of dust in the throw, plus ordering by check, you know as a vendor, you never know.
But as soon as the funds did clear, it was as if flown by night to my backdoor dear.  "On its way" does not describe its delivery method, for it is travelling at the speed of light to exactly your front door!
And it works exactly as it was imposed, not a glitch not a night I had to spend making it work as I had supposed.
Instead it turns out it worked without a hitch.  And at 7 watt per 1/3 a megapitch*, Im not sure theres room for anyone who would bitch.
Thank You ZoomHash.

May we use your quote for our site Cheesy

Please do, Zoomhash.  It has been an honor to do business with your site.

I have been able to get 10 Gridseed units fully operational

http://imagize[Suspicious link removed]ageshack.us/v2/640x480q90/812/sj8m.jpg

Now tell me that isnt awesome!  10 Gridseeds hashing 3+ MHs at some merely 70 WATTS.
It is, in a sense, the miracle of the cfl bulb, if not the LED.
Congrats on your success, Mindtrip!

Oddly enough, while I was mining at clevermining, all the sudden my cgminer reported a "ZOMBIE" was mining. During this time, my hashrate also seemed to increasingly decrease..by the hundreths of kilohashes.  One by one, lower and lower, from say 359.7kh to 359.5kh to 359.3kh, and so on.

I stopped cgminer, disconnected the Gridseed, plugged it back in and restarted cgminer and everything seems normal again.
Very Odd.

Cant write a picture to describe this but, right after it says 850 MHz in cgminer, it said ZOMBIE/355.1Kh/s.  And the Kh/s kept dropping.
Not sure if its a bug, maybe Ive been tapped, perhaps just a strange error.  But anything that says ZOMBIE worrys me.

Anyways everything seems normal now as I continue to mine at clevermining (after I have unplugged and restarted everything).

Zoomhash website told me to buy this one here, which works well, though its no longer available.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Global-AC-DC-Adapter-Charger-For-YSX-YSX127000T-Power-Supply-Cord-Mains-PSU-NEW-/351013848783?ssPageName=ADME:L:OU:US:1120

I would guess in the "More chances to get what you want" part of the same page at Ebay that most of those would work as well as long as its 12 volt output with 7 amps.

My One Gridseed Miner is working perfect.  Nice change from 50k to 350k, plus giving my little nvidia laptop card a rest.

My Steps, and Im a newbie so forgive me if I trip up or sound a little...retarded  Roll Eyes

1)  Installed Zadig, newest version 2/14:  http://zadig.akeo.ie/

2)  Power up the Gridseed and attach to your USB port.  Computer will says something like "oh we dont know what that is --unsucessfully installed".  So, goto Zadig interface and select "all devices" and dropdown menu should show either the CP3PO (the Zadig website says the one to look for).  In his notations he says some come instead with the STM32 virtual port (thats what mine had).  So you install the driver onto that STM32 thingy instead of the other CP3PO one.

3)  Now, I must say, this dint work for me str8 away.  Running cgminer it says no "hotplug" thing, which was set to 0 his original settings:

"cgminer.exe --scrypt -o stratum+tcp://us-east.multipool.us:7777 -u yourworker.1 -p password --gridseed-options=baud=115200,freq=850,chips=5 --hotplug 0

pause"

And, someone mentioned to put the hotplug vaule to 5 and it will work (though that might be for multiple miners--Im not sure).  In any case, cgminer still said something about no hotplug plug and play devices or something and it wasnt working.

4)  So, what I did was unplug the usb connection and unplugged power to the Gridseed.  Then I rechecked Zadig and unclicked and reclicked "find all devices" and saw the STM32 thingy wasnt there anymore, which it shoulnt be.  Then I also rechecked the windows installation pop-up box that originally told me the device was unsucessfully installed and I closed that box up.  So everythings closed and clear and acknowledged and we have a fresh slate.
I also, during this time, ran cg miner with the gridseed completely unplugged from the computer and it searched for the gridseed and found nothing, which is good.
Then I plugged everything back in and reinstalled the stm32 driver again.  I left the hotplug value at 0 in cgminer and ran it.  It found the gridseed and hashed away perfectly.

Perhaps beginners luck but I'd rather be lucky than talented any day of the week.  Best luck to everyone, I will try to help as much as I can.

ASIC Scrypt Miners
by
zack5104
on 02/03/2014, 04:19:18 UTC
I was wondering how anyone feels about the new asic scrypt miners, or if anyone even has one.  Apparently then can do Litecoin, probably Feathercoin, possibly Mintcoin, and perhaps even UTC among others (I know UTC is supposed to be ASIC resistant, but itd be interesting to try it anyways).

For those of us using laptops, with obviously low hashrates, this introduces an alternative to the building of a rig within a milkcrate concept.  Simply plug it into your USB port, give it a power supply and youre off and running.

Prices vary.  I nearly bought one for 350 and discovered I could get one for 250.  It claims to deliver 300kh/s at 7 watts draw.  For the price, either 350 or 250/unit, its basically in line with what you would spend on a headless drone in a milkcrate running a similar hash.
Benefits are 7 watts vs some thousand watts.
Cons are if everything goes down the tubes, you still have useful video cards.  While with the "ASIC Miners" you gotta pile of useless transistors.

Any thoughts, issues, concerns?  Anyone have one of these asic scrypt miners?  If so, what have been your experiences with it.  Would love to hear from the pool of thought here on the continuing technological advances we see within the mining ecosystem.

This might be a great coin but if you cant get the wallet to work (sync) what good is it?
Ive tried everything, older versions, the newest version, editing the config file, deleting the config file, to no avail.  It will not sync.

Though I admit Im a "newbie" Ive had other wallets.  Gamecoin wallets, Feathercoin wallets, Litecoin wallets, UTC wallets, Betacoin wallets even a Barbecue wallet without any problems whatsoever.

So, Im just giving my 2 cents worth, if you find people are abandoning this coin its no because they dint have faith in it.  Its because its self-defeating without a wallet that could work.

This is total BS. I have a 1 wallet on mac and 1 on windows running fine. If you're being genuine, I suggest you back up your wallet.dat file or send you coins to an exchange, then do a re-install. You could also start a new user account and do a fresh install there, sounds to me like you deleted something you shouldn't have.

Can you post you conf file?  Also, have you deleted everything in the AppData/Roaming file?  Delete the entire Mint file there, then reinstall.

Save the conf file to Mint in the AppData/ Roaming location.  Then open Mint.  I've had problems like this with other wallets.  One thing that may work is to delete the rpcport from the conf file.  Start Mint wallet, let it sync, then close it.  Thenadd the rpc line  back to the conf  file and reopen the wallet.  I have no idea why, but this has worked for me with other wallets.

I have no coins within the wallet since the wallet was never functional.  I do however have coins Ive been mining at pools.  In any case, the coins earned are useless unless the wallet becomes functional.  I am happy yours is.  Perhaps its a similar case of receiving graphics cards, and one of them doesnt work.  But in this case Ive downloaded multiple wallets and none of them work.

Just incase the embedded image doesnt work (and it probably wont since Im not that technologically savvy), my proof is in the linked image here: img40.imagevenue.com/img.php?image=653616991_nosyncMINT2_122_438lo.jpg

Well, Thanks for the encouragement bjmillican4.

After rebooting my comp, and using the suggested addnodes (listed below) and adding them BOTH to the CONFIG file in the application folder AND copying the same config file to the application/roaming folders I was able to get it to sync.

Seems the kicker here is to add that config file with the newer addnodes into the application/roaming area than within the original downloaded folder the wallet came with.
Course a reboot, or two, on the ole comp can always be a charm.

Thanks again,  bjmillican4, for egging me on Smiley

Glad you got it working.  I've gotten pissed and posted about bad wallets too.  It happens to everyone.  Not sure why your trouble.  It should be easier.  Everyday people are never going to use crypto if they have to deal with these problems.

Computers can really be weird sometimes too, bjmillican4.  Sometimes the inexplicable can happen and the computer seems to solve its own problems, sometimes as if it can think for itself.
Theres obviously issues with this wallet, as others have complained.  Clearly theres a defect, even if we can walk around it.  And I agree, its a deterrent to those who are exploring crypto.  Still Ive never had trouble with other wallets, at least to date.

Thanks for the help though.  Best to you and your pursuit of coins!

Re: [ANN] [SCRYPT JANE] UltraCoin (UTC) - Newly Launched
by
zack5104
on 07/02/2014, 23:01:07 UTC
Wanted to put in my 2 cents worth mining UTC with nvidia 740m card using cudaminer.
Backround: Im a total newbie mining coins and was unable to mine UTC using cgminer (though Ive used it for other coins).
Cuda seems to have added scrypt-jane support with the 2-2-14 version, which I am using.  Using the 64-bit model, with parameters:

cudaminer --algo=scrypt-jane:UTC -L 2  -o stratum+tcp://ultra.leetpools.com:3333 -O u.u:p

At (obviously leetpools mining pool) I was able to achieve about 55kh/sec.  Without the L  parameter I was only getting 40-47kh/sec.  GPU temp running at about 75 degrees.

Mainly Im posting this to (hopefully) help other newbies who were having no luck at all with cgminer.  All I could get were erroneous numbers that I was mining at 11mh/sec, and it only was accessing the intel-integrated video drive (or whatever you call it), instead of accessing my actual video card (the nvidia 740m).  All of my shares were rejected and it just didnt work at all plus it was using 20 watts of power.

Using Cuda miner, Im getting 99% accepted shares UTC, its using 5 watts of power, and while Ive only gotten a coin or two so far, at least its working.

Newbie Zack Smiley

Question: does anyone know if the "block erupter" usb chips on amazon might be good for UTC being its scrypt-jane?  I heard they were good for feathercoins using normal scrypt.  Thanks!
