Updated Mac port, and a gui version for sending coins for windows as well.

--URL REMOVED--

Can you share the source code? Pushing binaries around is dangerous (for users) at best.

Yes.   Binaries from unknown sources are very dangerous.

It's great there is some new namecoin work being done, but it has to be in the open for all of us to see or else no one will trust it.

Post the source on github or another suitable location and let us all review it.

I'm gathering a Prefix list for as many cryptocoin variations as possible to include into PHPCoinAddress.  Please feel free to report errors on this list, or fix missing prefixes, or report OK tests, or to suggest new coins.   For new coins, please include the public and private prefixes in either Decimal or Hex, or just a pointer to a source code repository where the prefixes can be found.   I'll keep this post updated as new versions of PHPCoinAddress are released.
Code:
Version 0.2.0.pre
Key:
Pub Dec = Prefix for Public Key, Decimal
Pub Hex = Prefix for Public Key, Hexadecimal
Pub lead = leading character in Public Key
Priv Dec = Prefix for Private Key, Decimal
Priv Hex = Prefix for Private Key, Hexadecimal
Priv lead = leading character in Private Key (Wallet Import Format)
PrvC lead = leading character in Private Key (Compressed Wallet Import Format)
test = Test results for importing PHPCoinAddress created keys into standard client
src = source code repository
Note: tests are for uncompressed keys

[ANN] PHPCoinAddress - create public/private key pairs for Bitcoin, etc
by
zamgo
on 09/05/2013, 12:54:54 UTC
PHPCoinAddress is a PHP Object that creates public/private key pairs for Bitcoin and many other cryptocoins.

PHPCoinAddress is intended to be easy to integrate into other PHP projects.

More info: https://github.com/zamgo/PHPCoinAddress

This is a beta release, and the project is still under active development.  Be careful before using this in a production environment.

Example usage:
Code:
require_once 'PHPCoinAddress.php';
$coin = CoinAddress::bitcoin();
print 'public (base58): ' . $coin['public'] . "\n";
print 'public (Hex)   : ' . $coin['public_hex'] . "\n";
print 'private (WIF)  : ' . $coin['private'] . "\n";
print 'private (Hex)  : ' . $coin['private_hex'] . "\n";
All bug reports, fixes, pull requests, comments and criticisms welcome.

Re: File formats -- blkindex.dat and blk0001.dat
by

blkindex.dat is a berkeley database.

blk0001.dat is a binary file.

In blkindex.dat 'main' database are pointers to the position of blocks within the binary blk0001.dat file.

Re: BTC/NMC merged mining available for testing

Still a little unclear...

Me too.  But maybe something like this:

  • no change to miners, they just getwork and hash like normal...
  • lots of changes to pools, new patched bitcoind and namecoind, etc...
  • pool sends out getworks that are 'compatible' between both chains
  • if a miner sends a proof-of-work that is of at least Namecoin difficulty, the pool gets a Namecoin block
  • if a miner sends a proof-of-work that is of at least Bitcoin difficulty, the pool gets a Namecoin block and a Bitcoin block

(assuming that Namecoin difficulty is below Bitcoin difficulty.    Parity here we come....)

Re: [Pre Announcement] PHPCoin
by
zamgo
on 15/07/2011, 11:46:30 UTC
I'm starting a new project to go GPL OpenSource, I named it PHPCoin.

Great!  The PHP/bitcoin world needs more open source projects.

By now just someone with good design skills, later, as I publish it to GitHUB or SourceForge, PHP developers may join too. At this stage would mess up a bit as we may use different coding ways, making it inconsistent.

With all due respect: Good intentions are nice, but released code is what makes an open source project alive.

Release the code early and often.  Don't worry about ugly code, don't worry about bugs.  Those things can and will be fixed down the road.  Nothing will get messed up.

DO worry about your project turning into vaporware if you don't release code soon.

If you're interested in browsing some bitcoin-related PHP open source projects:

https://github.com/mikegogulski/bitcoin-php
 - Bitcoin library for PHP
 - a basic PHP class for interacting with bitcoind
 - Hasn't been updated for a while, but still usable

https://github.com/zamgo/bitcoin-webskin
 - an open source PHP web interface to bitcoind
 - my own project Wink

and a lot more out there on github and other places...

Re: Namecoin Dying
by
zamgo
on 12/07/2011, 07:19:13 UTC
summary:

  • Namecoin is alive and well
  • Namecoin is young, not even 3 months old.  The Namecoin blockchain started on 17 April 2011.  By comparison, Bitcoin blockchain started on 3 January 2009.
  • Namecoin's first major application is for secure ownership of .bit domains.   Because the Namecoin system is a generic name/value datastore, there are many, many, many more applications possible.
  • Namecoin currently is not documented well.  This will improve as the project matures.
  • Namecoin currently has no open source GUI.  This will improve as the project matures.

Re: Bitcoin -> Namecoin -> ASNCoin... some thoughts...
by
zamgo

I guess ASN's would start to take back their original meaning, and we'd be insured against well, content delivery networks clogging our border entry, without fair exchange.

Any other thoughts? OpenBGP and BTC seem like a good area to start blending.

Or maybe NMC...     just start using some new namespaces:    bgp/  and  asn/

Re: Who is mining namecoins and why?
by
zamgo
on 09/07/2011, 09:22:48 UTC
Summary:  Who is mining Namecoins?

Those who don't care about exchange prices:
  • People who want the coins for short-term use, to pay for registering and updating names, and/or purchasing products/services.
  • People who want to support the Namecoin project for the long-term
  • People who just heard about Namecoin and are testing it out

Those who care about exchange prices:
  • People who seek short-term profit.  When they calculate the time is "right", they mine NMC in order to trade it into BTC, and then into a fiat currency.
  • People who seek a long term investment.  They mine NMC and hold for the long-term.
