The main reason why I am asking this is that they are the forum at the forefront of skeptical thinking and critical analysis online, in terms of user numbers. And the fact that they have taken this rather bizarre step of making it hard to sign up there makes me rather uneasy at where such a large community is heading. No open community should do this. They should take a leaf out of the book of this forum. They need more input from people to make people change their minds, they hated the idea of bitcoin when I talked about it there!

My thoughts exactly, let the most power hungry totalitarian states ban it, then the west will end up playing the "we don't want to ban bitcoin, only repressive regimes like China or Russia do that" political card, which will almost certainly boost widespread support in all the countries that have not banned it. Besides, how will russia deal with the situation the FBI was in recently when the silk road went down, a massive heap of wallets full of bitcoins. They will most likely end up selling them, they would not throw millions away.

I don't know why everyone is saying 0.04 per maxcoin, I only need to spend 0.2 BTC and I get nearly 150 at coins-e. Last night when it launched that same amount brought 100. I expect you will be able to get them cheaper over the coming days.

I have at least 1BTC in my coins-e account, but when I go to this page and click 'quantity of max' to 1000 it simply says "new order request failed; insufficient balance" even when the cost is showing as < 1 BTC. How come?

Even a bitcoin transfer took nearly 24 hours for me once, had 160 confirmations but did not show up in my wallet for till 24 hours after the first 6 confirmations. I think these things just happen.

Though it is suspicious these things tend to happen to a lot of new popular coins at cryptsy on a regular basis.
