Re: ◣XBB◥ Boolberry - by Blockchain Development Company and Community [Polo/Bittrex]

crypto_zoidberg himself said he recommended upgrading the database to LMDB like Monero did, which would help with the RAM problems (see below).  The "Blockchain Development Company" made some minor commits last November but other than that, I see no evidence of this database work.  We need real developers on this project with the skills to do this work.  If CZ truly returns to active development then perhaps he can accomplish this & maybe Boolberry will survive, otherwise maybe BDC needs to hire developer(s) who can accomplish this, and other tasks which Boolberry desperately needs.  If real development is dead, then Boolberry may suffer this fate in its current state, hurting all the newcomers & causing even more frustration for potential investors.  Pumping a coin by simply renaming the ticker symbol & re-coloring the GUI will not help with any long term growth potential, but will actually cause more frustration for investors if the core development problems are not resolved, and the price will come crashing back down as seen today.

....

Thanks for your work. Let's continue moving this way. Make commits to your repository so I and everybody else can review them. The most urgent task for me is to merge DB branch from the original repository to master. Daemon needs a lot of memory to run right now. That's not good for a decentralized system. I would prefer you to checkout DB branch and commit on top to make the review process simpler.

DB is really important task, and idea was to quickly implement basic db support in BBR using level_db, but to go forward problem is that level_db doesn't have transactions support, so we need to go with something like LMDB, which means to rewrite current code in db branch.

I guess this gonna take about 1 month of hard work. (but not a hard fork! don't be confused)

So if 1blockologist is about to implement something useful for BBR - implement working daemon with suitable memory consumption using LMDB would be good move.

Well if the real crypto_zoidberg returns to active development & implements multi-sig before Monero does, then Boolberry may start actually competing with Monero, which means it could still rise by several orders of magnitude IMO

Since the [XMR]Monero developers are working/have worked alongside some of the i2p developers (see Monero developer interviewing I2P developer podcast, http://podbay.fm/show/1032156854/e/1451151298?autostart=1), I think Monero would be an excellent candidate for this privacy-focused altcoin exchange.  As Monero community supporters we believe that the quality of work, cutting-edge cryptography & technologies being built into the Monero project gives it enormous potential to become the leading cryptocurrency based on its key foundations of decentralization, security, fungibility, privacy, untraceability, & scalability.  Monero traders wishing to avoid KYC/AML at Poloniex (where there are several XMR cryptocurrency pair markets already) may enjoy using this exchange instead if it ever decides to add this privacy-based coin to its portfolio.  It's definitely worth considering for the decision-maker(s) involved.  Due to some of the recent controversy/trolling & varying directions/degrees of market sentiment & opinion in the Monero community, I would encourage each person to take the time to perform their due diligence regarding Monero itself before making assumptions or quick assertions based on baseless rumors.  Just my 0.02 XMR Smiley

Regarding the quote. I'm not cryptographer, but Andersen said that this quote does not really make sense from the cryptographic point of view, and rather proves that Satoshi was not a cryptographer and had only high level knowledge of cryptography.  Real cryptographers would never say something like this

Source:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rQ3e1Pzu7iI&feature=youtu.be&t=748

So not sure if this is really a quote that Monero want to use this quote from Satoshi, as apparently it has no sense.

Indeed, to Gavin credit he doesn't say this quote does not make sense, but that this is the 101 of crypto. My understanding is that Gavin refers to the vague "informal" formulation in the quote, not to the meaning of it. The conclusion of Gavin just based on this poor formulation is really stretched though. The quote was actually a forum post so of course it's not formulated as a science paper.
Worth mentioning that the post of Satoshi with that quote also mentions stealth addresses. In a way, all Monero is in there Smiley

One night I had a dream that Satoshi Nakamoto himself came back from the dead with his verified PGP key to provide a sign from above that Monero was the one true coin to rule them all.  A voice thundered from the heavens, "Monero is my beloved coin, listen & take heed," with Satoshi's PGP key signature in the clouds, and a white dove came forth and perched upon the fluffy pony's shoulder.  With Satoshi's blessing the XMR price skyrocketed to $3,141.59 per coin, and the trollboxes of the earth went nuts.  Then I awoke and behold it was a dream...   Wink

As predicted, XMR is now rising, with an upside breakout from the downward trendline.  Thanks to our hero Monero developers who were busy writing code during the holidays and released version 0.9.0 while everyone was asleep/drunk on New Year's Cheesy

I personally favor Monero, since it's the anonymous encrypted internet money that the original Silk Road users once thought Bitcoin was, and is the world's first true digital cash.  As a Bitcoin miner & trader since early 2011, I have loved it and still do for various things, but unfortunately Bitcoin is already legacy (e.g., Netscape Navigator).  If you want true next-gen Bitcoin 2.0 cryptocurrency / digital cash, Monero is the new kid on the block (e.g., Google Chrome alpha/beta). Monero / XMR isn't a fork of Bitcoin but rather rewritten from the ground upwards, is fungible, untraceable, anonymous, & scalable (and they fixed the block size problem too), and some Bitcoin devs are updating Monero's code which gives it credibility, as well as multiple Ph.D. cryptographers. I've converted my BTC funds to XMR and don't plan on going back to legacy (except when necessary using services such as https://xmr.to). The free market shall decide...

I don't want to sell my XMR for BTC since BTC are being tracked by https://www.blockseer.com, http://polycoin.io, http://coinalytics.co/, https://chainalysis.com/, etc., I'd rather keep my funds in Monero which is private, fungible, untraceable, & scalable (they fixed the block size problem).

Just sayin

XMR: 0.00415444 BTC
XMR: 1 USD

I'm a bit shocked to see the strength post at this level.
I know many, me included, really saw .003 coming and perhaps holding but the push post that has been huge.

Seems like big buyers have really helped push us up, nothing new there. Is is synonymous with smart money?
The more I look into XMR the more that seems to be the case.

Scary to think what might (actually, what probably will) happen when BTC starts another run.

Methinks XMR might (and probably will) "rise [like a] chikun" (as was chanted in the btc-e trollbox) like LTC ran from $1.11 to $48.48 in fall of 2013.  This will likely accelerate as BTC finishes the bottoming pattern and begins its next rally to $3-$10k BTC/USD.  XMR will be a greater "chikun" than LTC especially once GUI arrives and it grows widely adopted & utilized.

Can you add the Poloniex exchange with the Monero/Bitcoin currency pair (XMR/BTC)?  (like on BitcoinWisdom: https://bitcoinwisdom.com/markets/poloniex/xmrbtc).

Re: FAQ suggestions for new exchange (kraken.com)

One question that comes to mind is regarding whether or not Kraken plans on implementing a quality live stream data platform.  If Kraken wants to compete with Mt. Gox, they will need a data streaming platform much like Clark Moody's site (http://bitcoin.clarkmoody.com) along with advanced candlestick charting across multiple timeframes (perhaps integration with SierraChart via a websocket-like feed from BitcoinCharts).  If Kraken has good APIs & succeeds, perhaps 3rd party programmers will develop a solution as well.

I also am interested in what kind of trade history would be provided, if any (unlike Mt. Gox's trade history which breaks them into tiny orders rather than providing the lump sums with average costs, and fees broken down accordingly).  Quality trade history that is easily exportable for tax accounting purposes would certainly be beneficial for some people.

But sometimes I have a trouble recognizing sound signals (not sure if anybody mentioned it).

Probably not everybody has perfect ear to distinguish sound tones if there is a significant time interval between them. Could you please use more complicated sound samples so that it is easier to distinguish them? Or you could just combine the existing two (instead of "high" and "low" you could play "low-high" and "high-low"). Should be easy to implement.

I could look into this. Down sounds could have a downward pitch ramp, and upward for Up. That way it's not just the same two sounds at different pitch.

That'd be great! Also: Loudness. The default, 100% sound volume can be... painful, when wearing a headset.

This^  Smiley

Also, a much-desired feature would be to have varying sounds play when specifying an upper/lower price boundary.  E.g., play a "positive" sound if price rises above X price point and play a "negative" sound if the price falls below Y price point (where X & Y are defined in user-submitted values into text boxes, as in the "Calculators" feature).  If you implement this, I'll be sure to send some extra donations Smiley

Thanks deepceleron, I've got it working now, and I really appreciate your help with this!  After updating my batch file, I've been able to successfully download the historical trade that I missed.  Is there any particular address you'd like me to send some donations to (I assume the one in your signature is fine)?  Also I would like to further commend you, as this sierrachartfeed update is a significant improvement over the older version I used, and has now removed the 10-15 minute gaps of trade data between the historical data and live streaming feed which is great Smiley

For some reason, this "fix" fails to download anything past the last week or so of trade data.  Is there any way to download data farther back?  My mtgoxUSD.scid file is missing historical trade data from April 19, 20, 21, and 22 Sad

It might not all be Mt. Gox's fault - sierrachartfeed grabs historical & streaming data from BitcoinCharts, which is owned and run by one single guy, tcatm (see post above) who, I believe, relies on donations & website banner ads.  I emailed him about this problem, and I think he may be working on a fix.  Hopefully...   Undecided
