You can see the version of wallet next to the name of the file.

Also, you can open wallet than click on help tab than debug window there you will find client version of the wallet.

Ah, the Help Tab was hidden. Had to click on it to see it. Ver. 2.1.0. need to update that then? if so are the only files I keep are the wallet.dat and blk0001.dat files?

You don't have to removed anything, you can immediatly run wallet 2.1.0.2.
