You have sent BCC to a BTC address, these wallets have addresses that validate to each other, but the wallets are not compatible for receiving coins. You'll need to research how to remove a private key from a Bitcoin address and import it into a BCC wallet to recover these coins. You may want to contact someone from the BCC community for help. While most exchanges don't bother recovering wrongly sent BCH, usually exchanges keep a history of deposit addresses, thus should have access to the corresponding private keys. So that's a rather weird response from an exchange to make and I would stay clear of them in the future.

If the receiving exchange won't help you, however, I'm afraid you're out of luck as they are the only ones that could possibly recover your BCH.
