Nope. Bitcoin is just the first one that actually became decently successful and actually gained recognition everywhere. Most people just haven't heard of the past attempts for a global currency just because they weren't successful.

Oh, that's a very informative and interesting piece of information.
Truly saying, I assumed that there were some early attempts to create a cryptocurrency, but now I realize they were numerous than I might have thought. Still, interesting... by the way, thanks for the link
