I'm planning to start local harvesting for educational purposes, but I'd really like to know if you have the minimum required to start it, which is 10k XEM, I would have any influence in the network to stand any chance to harvest something. How can I know that? I'd appreciate technical details about how it is the harvesting workflow and chances attached to an average Joe.

100k XEM is recommended, with 10k XEM it will take a lot of time to find a block. Right now there is a lot of empty blocks so harvesting isn't profitable.
