It's rather very deep refactoring of bitcoin codebase. Don't get me wrong, that's an excellent and long awaited thing (license issues aside). Bitcoin developers are way too conservative, code shows it's age and is sometimes a pain to work with. But the new code is so fresh I can't even use testnet to test my miner - despite the code for it is already there!
