Some MSI board that had 2x pci-e 16 slots, an XFX 650 PSU, sempron, 1gb DDR3. What goes into that modification to run the 5870 through the PCIEx1 slot? From what I understand you..
Buy a PCIEx1 extension.
Cut the end of the extension so the card fits (making sure not to sever any connections).
Insert card and plug in PCIE 6pin power cables.
Then run it?

No extra power needed for a 5870? Does this have to be done in linux or can windows pick up on it too?
