Confirms for BA on ipoMiner are at 51, which is what the coin requires. Anything more than that is excessive on the pool's part

More insights into what? Mined blocks mature at 51 confirms on BitAlpha, so that's what the pool is setup for. Many pools don't actually configure the number of confirms for every coin they mine, and just use 120 confirms for everything. Of course that ties up coins on pools for longer than necessary and is inconvenient for miners.
