I think it is pretty obvious he ran off after this last gen was a bust. I do not think that was his plan from the start, but after multiple failed gens of miners he bailed.

You never know how someone ticks in reality, thats right. But leaving behind his wife? And being honest all the time before? I mean he had way better chances before.
