I tried it. Simple easy. Just click on maternodes. Then create local and have the coins needed and then its done. Then click start all.

I followed the above exactly, and the block explorer now shows my wallet as empty. My wallet shows I still have all my coins, they are spendable, but my wallet is not staking. I did a search with my wallet address GTo2mdp6WEVqU4xr4q59gPgFBZCW3kkywn in the block explorer, and it shows 250k of my coins went to my created masternode address and the rest went to GTzWLm5SeAK1rc5e4oBDVRqvP9EaqzjkMg.
Can anyone help me understand what happened?

The masternode will stop your regular staking. just stop that and delete it. It should stake then.

Ok, thanks, it's staking now. I guess I'll just wait for the dev to do the masternode fix before starting that again.
