A message posted in their profile is useless as there's no logs of them and anyone can change it on a whim. They need to be on an unedited post on the forum from a long time ago so people can prove they account belongs to them without a doubt.

usually hacked account will be reported on meta section by the owner and get neg-trust ( from other members ), so the first thing you have to know is don't make a deal with newbie account and neg-trust ( except using escrow while transaction )...

So how do I know if the account is not the result of "hack"? due account hack results usually go round the old accounts that are inactive, and the owner does not know that his account has been taken of people

Thats why using escrow on dealing things is a must. You can ask your escrow to help you on check it whether it is hacked account or not because if you simply ask seller they would not even tell you. May be you can check it through meta. Its on https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=24.0

a better piece of advice would rather be that you should ask for a signed message from an address that was posted a long time ago.

While it is always recommended to use escrow for trades, most escrow agents are not going to have sufficient expertise to be able to protect you from hacked accounts. I know of at least one instance recently when an escrow accepted a signed message from an address that was posted that day which is worthless. Not surprisingly, the account turned out to be hacked.
