I'm not disagreeing I would agree most likely he had a different IP set being sent out then his old place.
I in no way meant to set them up wireless. I'm asking if OP had wireless as I have a feeling his "modem" is a all in one with wireless, ports, etc. But I could be wrong and he has a plain modem and pluged it to one computer until today getting a router, I just am doubting it.
I was going to try to help OP get his S3 connected to his "modem" if it was a all in one modem/router like I have it is. And that router would not be needed as it was all in one from ISP. But my feeling turns out to be wrong then I will try to help him connect it to router.

. I used to have one of those all in one types (still do, actually), but I don't use it as my primary router any longer... now I've got the all in one just functioning as the modem (it's networking is bridged) and I've got a router that does the actual routing job, along with a number of multi-port switches throughout my house.
