I in no way meant to set them up wireless. I'm asking if OP had wireless as I have a feeling his "modem" is a all in one with wireless, ports, etc. But I could be wrong and he has a plain modem and pluged it to one computer until today getting a router, I just am doubting it.

I was going to try to help OP get his S3 connected to his "modem" if it was a all in one modem/router like I have it is. And that router would not be needed as it was all in one from ISP. But my feeling turns out to be wrong then I will try to help him connect it to router.

Just trying to see more about his network setup.

We're both trying to get the same info from the guy... and I'm pretty sure we both think the root cause of his problems is the same

I used to have one of those all in one types (still do, actually), but I don't use it as my primary router any longer... now I've got the all in one just functioning as the modem (it's networking is bridged) and I've got a router that does the actual routing job, along with a number of multi-port switches throughout my house.
