I am reading a course at my university which covers bitcoin to some extent, which is why I wanted get out of the newbie forum and post a thread on the main forum.

You can post that thread here in the newbie section, and if it merits discussion by other members who do not frequent this part of the forums, PM me and I'll move it and whitelist you altogether.
