. . .A potential customer suggested I look into accepting bitcoins. So far, I'm not sure if it will be worth the hassle. . .
Which hassle has you concerned? The hassle of fast transactions, or the hassle of eliminating chargebacks? Perhaps it's the reduction in fraud incidents that has you concerned?
Well, I've been attempting to GIVE someone $10 in bitcoins for a few days now and still have not completed the transaction. Maybe because I'm stupid, but for the "general public" bitcoins is still a bit confusing.
What part of the process has you confused?
Have you set up a wallet yet? Have you acquired bitcoins of your own yet? Do you have the bitcoin address of the person you are trying to send to? Have you attempted to create the transaction?
Those are the 4 steps, and once you finish the first 2 steps, you only need the last 2 steps in the future (while possibly repeating the second step if you run out of bitcoin).
I suppose anything new is a bit confusing the first time you try it, and depending on the methods you choose you can create additional confusion for yourself. But if you ask for help, there are several very knowledgeable people here who are willing to help you learn. We can't help if we don't know what part of the process you are having trouble with.
