First luring people in with phantom riches is common, running off with a poor excuse like "we've been hacked" is common as well, but this adds plain old abuse of desperation. Exactly that is why I am warning people about the email. I literally got 7 emails from the same account stating the same thing so to me that raises a red flag. as for me, I may buy an antminer or look into other mining alternatives. The funny thing is I hummed and hawed for close to a year about hashocean then did research on it using cmmonitor to see if they were paying until i got into it.
