I dont think its something that people want to waste time on but more of an mixture of different elements.

1. Desperate / young trying to make quick money
2. Addiction
3. Boredom and other associated problems that relive stress

yeah I think it is not wasting time unnecessarily. you still have a chance and the possibility to become rich, or at least get a big profit. while there is a chance it deserves to be tried and it was not a waste of time only yeah even though it will be little harm you in the finances

Majority of people is into gambling because they want to make quick money, and they believe their luck will help them realize their dreams, hard to say but I admit I belong to that group.
