It's secure, well-designed, free, in the cloud and I don't have to run any kind of software on my computer to make it work. And why not take it one step further and extend it to rethinking the whole model of the web? Why do we have domain names? Let's BitCoin-ify the way we connect and interact with remote hosts, and not just leave it at email.

I think that's kind of the point though. For people like you, who don't mind that their email is stored uncrypted and possibly transmitted across the net unencrypted, nobody is forcing you to switch and moreso, you'd be able to communicate with BitMail users through a transparent translation layer.

Unfortunately using Gmail puts us at the whim of systems failures, hacks, and worse.
