I remember that hype too. I think the idea with Bitcoin ATMs was still-born. As the time has shown, people rather opt for using regular payment cards which are linked to their online wallets (such as Coinbase, Xapo, etc) and allow funds to be converted in real time when paying by card or withdrawing cash...

Bitcoin proved to be very cumbersome and inconvenient in everyday transactions (like buying foods, paying bills, whatever)

It was something that might not have been avoided, because I am sure that everyone would choose an activity that is fast, secure, efficient, and inexpensive. It's something very desirable by everyone, giving it all but bitcoin there really is a negative thing. So this is not a problem

That's why folks choose to take so-called Bitcoin payment cards which are based around existing payment card infrastructures like those of Visa or Mastercard
