Before setting the miners in the actual racks where the noise is no problem, we always test them in the office for a while to make sure they run fine. Right now my ears would be ringing if I wouldnt be using earplugs. and they are still annoying.

They idle so low one minute, and the next minute my neighbors can hear them.
I have no issue with noisy miners, but this seems like it's just unrequired noise.
One minute they blast at 110% the next they are cruising at 25%. than boom back up again.
If they idled Higher, at 60% maybe? they would need to spike as often, and this would help with the noise greatly.

that link is super old but thats the speed controller i used with delta server fans. it only shows a pic of the top side with the pot but the underside has the components that control the fan speed. they have other versions similar with a plastic shroud over it and should work the same way. i went with these because it was a simple design that attached to the fan itself instead of having a box hanging there. im not responsible for any wrong hookups though and even though its pretty simple to do make sure your removing and hooking up the right pin....

But the cause for the so-called "elephant" is a much bigger problem with the auto-tune S9s. And that is the extremely high range of frequency distribution over the 3 cards/boards/blades in a single S9, at least for the B22-11TH/s models we have. This in turn leads to miners breaking down rather soon (in my case one miner was bye bye after less than 24h), leading to repair/delivery costs (even in this case) and downtime of the miner. So, honestly, what is worse, a strong modulation of the fan speed ==> noise levels, or that Bitmain is selling faulty products to the its customers, which break down sooner than later.

There many possible causes for the bad frequency distribution, be it the faulty automatic-tuning firmware of Bitmain of the cards which leads to this distribution, or be it the greediness to use underperforming chips on the boards. Nonetheless, it is a problem introduced by Bitmain by selling faulty machines (be it firmware or hardware) to the customers (be it on purpose or by accident).

ya no one seems to read my posts very much lol. i agree the auto tune feature isnt much of a feature. it runs boards too hard and i personally would want to control the speed. idc so much about raising it but i would at least like the aility to lower the speed but with the new firmware your unable to. my post was just to give some sort of solution to those that wanted to solve 1 of the 2 issues which is fan speed control. if it helps folks great if it doesnt great lol. at least this way they can try to get a handle on the high temps when running these auto tune miners.
